Thanks for posting a response to my review, but your response just goes to show your lack of attention to detail. Nowhere in my review did I say I came in at 12:30. We arrived at 9:30 PM. Also, this was from my experience from back in April 2013, so I'm not sure who you are referring to about a wedding party and coming to our table to talk to us because I can assure you that did not happen. Perhaps you should go back and read the review a 3rd time. I stand by my review. Thank you.
Review Source:Wow!! My fiance and I found this restaurant in Roxbury. What a pleasant surprise this was. We are frequent diners and love trying new places. The ambiance of the restaurant is lovely and charming. We had a few drinks at the bar and chatted with the owner Nicky. She was very nice and we give her credit for opening a charm in the sleepy town of Roxbury.
For starters, we ordered a chicken quesadilla and split a salad. Our entrees were absolutely delicious, I had salmon with a creamy lemon sauce and buttermilk mash omg this was delicious. My fiance had the steak with veggies and potatoes also excellent. We also ordered the potato croquettes, not your normal potato croquettes, these were awesome!!! We will be frequent customers at this place, we are also taking a whole bunch of friends next time!!
Almost forgot!! You need to try the strawberry bunt cake!!
I ate at The Public Lounge a week ago with a group of friends. I was hesitant about the choice having read some early Yelp reviews. Then someone told me that new owners had taken it over. I and my friends were amazed and delighted and happily surprised by the fresh food cooked in such a delicious way. I had the Atlantic Char (perfectly cooked with unbelievably fresh and delicious carrots and asparagus and delicious mashed potatoes;) another person could not stop raving about the steak; others the fabulous salad, etc., etc. A real find. Lucky Roxbury!
Review Source:5 of us each had great meals. The salads were fresh and straight from the garden. The Arctic Char dinner was fabulous served with delicious mashed potatoes, fresh roasted carrots and asparagus. The soups were also delicious. Seriously shocking to find this restaurant in the middle of Roxbury, NY. The ambiance and decor however were pure Roxbury, whatever that is, which made the experience even more wonderful. I promise you that it's better than any restaurant in Woodstock, NY and there are at least 3 great ones there.
Review Source:I had high hopes for this place, being so close to the Roxbury. Sadly, we were disappointed. The best parts were the drinks and the friendly bartender/waitress. Unfortunately the food just wasn't very good - much tasted defrosted, the veggies were very oily/mushy. A good option if you want to go for a drink!
Review Source:It's easy to pass such a small bistro. But upon recommendation. My family and I went into this establishment not expecting much. But much to our surprise, the atmosphere was amazing and the food to die for. The best Bok Choy I have ever had and entrees of Branzino and Ribeye!!! The bartender made an amazing Flamingo cosmo, you only need one the are delicious!!! For dessert we had chocolate lava cake! After our meal we moved to the bar and enjoyed the company of the owner and bartender, both were very helpful in promoting different thing to do in these small towns!! Can't wait to go back.
Review Source:The reason I gave it 1 star is because I can't give it any less...they microwave everything, you can hear the microwave beeping as they set the time and when the food is done... but the worst thing on all is the waitress slash bartender who sticks her fingers in, and tastes everyone's food before it comes out. I guess my review is: disappointed and disgusted
Review Source:What an unexpected delicious meal in the tiny town of Roxbury!
I came here on Friday night with my husband to escape the temptation of fozen pizza at the ski house. We started with the bruschetta (tomato basil/ white bean with thyme) and both were delicious. I had  the goat cheese/apple salad with crabcakes and hubby had the steak. We were both floored by the quality of the food and the great customer service. I chatted with both the waitress and bartender about the area and skiing at Plattekill. Who knew I lived in the part of town called Longwoods?
We will surely be back here again, and again...
Staff tries really hard and this place is nice to look out if you like it loud and this place is loud in both volume that can be heard as the acoustics are not great plus the bar area is lit to the hilt. Â I had solid expectations as the woman behind the bar was attentive and poured a great bourbon. Â The food though is not well thought out. Â The menu is sparse and dishes while creative could be better and simpler. Â The chicken kale thai rice noodle soup had rice noodles that were way overcooked and yet the soup was only lukewarm. Â While I received apologies as to the flatbread pizzas using a "new dough" it was really yeasty and too thick leading to an absence of taste and appeal. With a little TLC this could be the spot to be in Roxbury, hopefully they look at these reviews not as a negative but a hope that they improve. Â Best food in Roxbury right now is the grill upstairs at the Bar at Platekill Ski Area.
Review Source:Wow. Â I think there tuna and the sauce is to die for...love then pork chop...bok Choy soup...creative flavors. Â Not a huge menu, but whatever they serve is consistently good.great value...particularly during the week with a buy one, get half off...or for a single diner...a free salad or appetizer with you meal... Â Fun bar...friendly
Review Source:Wonderful menu, amazing food, terrific staff! Â I sampled everything from the soups to the deserts and nothing failed to satisfy! Â The chef truly cares about what comes out of the kitchen and, the drinks are made to perfection. Â I walked to the Public during my stay at the wonderful Roxbury, and my experience was wonderful! Â I wish I could've went back one more time during my stay. Â If you are ever in the area, give the Public a try! Â A small town restaurant, with city inspired favor!
Review Source:Really ecletic restaurant owned by the people who brought you the Roxbury. Great use of the space; I thought the combination of contemporary and old-school country was a surprisingly neat combo. I thought the feel was encapsulated pretty well by their movie projector. It reminded me of the artsy bars in the Lower East Side that play bizarre, Warhol-style movies, but they played The Little Rascals here instead. Artsy, but classic.
I came with a group of about 15 people from work, and we started with a couple of margharita pizzas. The pizzas were more along the lines of tortilla pizzas, and were decent. A little heavy on the cheese. I ordered a more substantial pizza (olive tapenade, roasted red peppers, and greens) for dinner, which was also pretty heavy-handed on the cheese and less so on the actual toppings.
Didn't order an entree because I'm usually pretty skeptical of hole-in-the-wall country restaurants that advertise complicated entrees. However, they actually looked pretty good upon delivery. I regret not getting the ahi tuna.
Definitely a cool place to grab a bite, especially if you're spending some time at the Roxbury. Our server could not have been sweeter, and even sent us back with a big bag of ice for the white wine we brought to the hotel. We really enjoyed our stay.
Not bad. Â A creative place for a small town. Â Just the food didn't quite make it up to par and the menu was too small...only 4 or 5 entree choices. Â I like a small and well executed menu, but I wouldn't really be able to go back there if I had wanted too. Â It is a good place to hang out, and seemed to be a hit with the locals.
Review Source:A great little place that fits the Catskill community location. Good vibe, friendly owners and staff. Food is reasonably good - not drop dead special but certainly as good or better than most of what is available in the area. The place is quirky, kind of fun and a pleasant evening. Sometimes they are sold out; sometimes there is a very large party ahead of you (like a wedding group). But all in all they work hard, have a great attitude and deliver. It's fun!
Review Source:We ate twice at Public Lounge during our 3 night stay at The Roxbury. The cocktails and food were creative and delicious. The owner/hosts seem to truly enjoy what they have created in this quiet little town. The vibe is fun and comfortable. We truly enjoyed our experience in Roxbury. We're heading back in the fall for another stay at the amazing Roxbury Motel. We are also excited to enjoy more cocktails, whatever fresh food is cooking up in the kitchen and the warm, friendly atmosphere at The Public!
Review Source:Have been here twice while staying at the Roxbury. It's quirky and has a nice vibe. Great Cocktails and pleasant food. I had the steak followed by the cheesecake. The steak was a nice chunk of meat and well cooked. Cheesecake was tastey. It's relaxing and a great place to forget about your troubles, kick back and enjoy a night away from the hum-drum.
Review Source:the public is a refreshing change from the norm in the catskills. yes, it's pricey, and yes, they sometimes sell out, but the food is good, and the drinks exceptional. my advice is to get a speciality pizza or quesadilla, and all of them are delicious. crispy crust, lots of flavor, simple ingredients. the drinks are creative and yummy, and while they are a bit costly, they're also strong! the beautiful bar and constant stream of old movies from a projector make for a fun and relaxed evening!
Review Source:It's sad that it is so hard for me to even give this place a 2 Star but it's true. I had high hopes when we saw the menu with Roast Beef Sliders and a Bolognase sauce with spicey sausage but our dreams were shattered when the food arrived.
As I waited for the Sliders I overheard every other table being told they had "already sold-out"." I thought we were the first table at their dinner service... By the way, any soda you order is $2 and there are no refills because that $2 just bought you A CAN!
This place is not in Manhattan but the portions would make you think it is (just not the quality.)
