My mom and I were looking for a quick bite to eat before a college tour. After arguing if we had enough time, we came to Pumpkin Hill Bistro. It's the most adorable place! The staff is lovely, and they even have Halloween decorations set up right now and they are so cute. The drinks come in mason jars which I just love. The view is beautiful, and the patio in the shade was breezy and not too hot. I really recommend the patio, sitting inside is like punishing yourself! This view is too great to pass up. When I was ordering I told them I was gluten free and they told me they had a gluten free bun for my burger! The food is excellent and if this is your only stop on the beautiful route 90- like my mom and I: this is the place to go. This place is simply the best.
Review Source:We really enjoyed this charming, quirky, homestyle restaurant on the drive down the east side of Cayuga Lake. The service and ambience were excellent, the food was local, fresh, and interesting, and the prices were reasonable.
There's plenty of outdoor seating, but not a significant lake view that we could see.
What a find! I stumbled upon this place when my friends and I stayed at a lakehouse in King Ferry. The weather when we dined here wasn't the best, but I can imagine how perfect it would be, sitting outside overlooking the lake. My friends and I came here on a Friday afternoon for lunch, it was fairly busy, but there was plenty of room to accommodate a party of 6. I got the salad and sandwich combo, which was around $11. Got the curried chicken sandwich which was ok but the salad was delicious. Fresh veggies and a delicious homemade lemon vinaigrette. We all shared two desserts which were both delicious: the pumpkin whoopie pie and a homemade berry pie. The atmosphere was fantastic, an old farm house, with the dessert menu written on rolling pins. Great experience!
Review Source:Googled for restaurants in the Aurora, NY that had vegetarian fare and a couple of them popped up. Â Driving into Aurora could not find the bar and grill so decided to go to Pumpkin Hill. Â Did not know what to expect, but got a pleasant vibe as we drove into the gravel parking lot. Â It was raining. Â The house converted restaurant was a welcoming bistro with a home like setting with a great kitchen. Â We sat at the kitchen table. Â And saw plaques on the wall. Â The first one that came to my attention was "Vegetarian food served here". Â This made me feel at home. Â Although limited items on the menu, the food was great. Â The service was one of the best I have seen. Â Everyone were chatting with each other including guests, just like a social gathering. Â All food tasted fresh and home made. Â I gave it 4.5 stars because food is pricey. Â Everything else deserves a 5! Â Will definitely go back.
Review Source:The good: Lovely location, ample parking, and a very authentic feel to this converted house. Staff was pleasant, helpful, and the service was nice.
The so-so: The menu felt pricey for what it offered.
The not so good: Once the food arrived did I begin to really question why everyone pointed us toward Pumpkin Hill Bistro as the best food in the area. We ordered as follows: Butternut squash soup, East meets west, Caesar Salad, and the stuffed pasta dish with roasted tomato sauce.
I was horribly disappointed. Perhaps the chefs were having an off day, but the food was not very good at all. I personally had the soup, caesar salad, and tasted the stuffed pasta. The soup was more of a squash puree flavored with apple and little else. It honestly needed a bit of cream, nutmeg, bay leaves, salt, and white pepper, with potentially a bit of cayenne or tobasco. (hint hint)
The salad was alright, nothing spectacular, and the romaine was either farm fresh or not romaine.
The stuffed pasta was unappetizing. Once room temp the cheese filling solidified into a hard, tasteless mass. If it was homemade, which I'm not entirely certain it was, The tomato sauce was definitely made with canned tomatoes.
Overall: Were I rating this bistro strictly on the ambiance I would give it four stars, however as I feel that the food is an integral part of a restaurant being somewhere to go back to, I can only give this bistro one star. Although this restaurant was quite lovely aesthetically, the food was quite a disappointment.
We stayed at a B&B and some people there recommended this place for lunch so we decided to stop in on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch. Â It was a nice day so we ate outside. Â I had a great spinach salad and half of a ham sandwich with fresh basil on it served in a wheat pita. Â It had a generous helping of meat in it and was very good. Â My husband had the shrimp in a garlic sauce. Â If you like garlic, it was very good. Â We really liked this quaint place and the food was marvelous. Â If you are visiting the Finger Lakes, this is a great place to go for lunch.
Review Source:Great atmosphere! Old farmhouse in a field of flowers overlooking the lake. Food was good but not great. We went for lunch and sat on the porch, which was gorgeous. We had black bean burger and egg salad wrap, neither of which were particularly exciting. Would try again for dinner if I Â got the chance.
Review Source:We arrived at 7 on a Saturday in August - no reservation. we were welcomed and made comfortable  Gently told we may have a wait, they were swamped.  Treated like we were the only ones there.  Great apps and entrees.  bottle of fingerlakes wine.  Fresh locally grown produce and other ingredients.  SO delicious!  Oh and the Sunset view is incredible from the porch or yard of this sweet little bistro that sits practically in the middle of a field.  If you want a table outside on porch call ahead.
Review Source:This place is awesome. Â I love to go when I'm home visiting my parents. Â The food is fresh and flavorful and the service is great. Â It's a small place but it comes off cozy rather than cramped. Â Warning, they aren't open all year so get it all in while you can. Â The porch seating is great on a summer night and long point wine and several orchards are right by should you decide to pick up a little something to bring home.
Review Source:A fun interesting menu, but if you're a foody that enjoyes simpler fare, this is not the place for you. Too much going on with each dish. Still, it's a great setting... And the desserts are listed on a rolling pin which was fun. I'd actually give them 3 1/2 stars. There are my many places to dine in the area and this is definitely one to try.
Review Source:A great find and worth driving an hour from Rochester for! Â A super romantic, cozy restaurant out over-looking Cayuga lake. Â Our spontaneous trip began by wanting to watch a late summer sunset on one of the finger lakes. Â While this is set back a bit from the lake, the sunset was beautiful. We didn't make reservations, only waited 20 minutes and during our wait, ventured down the grass path in a hay field and sat on the benches to enjoy the view. Â Oh, and amazing food...I had the chicken pot pie with a saranac shirely temple..haha. Â It was totally afforadable too. I think my meal was $10! Â We'll be back soon!
Review Source:Pumpkin Hill Bistro is an amazing find! Wifey and I had a great meal here.
Without reservations we had to wait for about fifteen minutes, but the host got us two glasses of wine and we sat outside in some wooden chairs out in the garden/yard. The setting is as idyllic as you can get; a nicely mowed grass yard, surrounded by a field of hay, and Cayuga lake in the distance. There were about six tables on the front porch of the Bistro, and I'm envious of those who were able to score such tables.
But onto the meal! I ordered the Maple Farm Duck and my wife got the Tortellaci Du Jour (which was chicken, broccoli, and rosemary). The Maple Farm Duck was one of the best duck dishes I've ever had; perfectly cooked with caramelized onions and apples and covered with a raspberry glaze. Â I absolutely destroyed every ounce of food on the place. The Tortellaci Du Jour was good, but my wife enjoyed the Tortellaci's far more than the chicken or broccoli. Â We finished the meal off with bite size puff pastries glazed with lemon sauce. Mmmmm.
So if you are in the Aurora/King Ferry area and can only have one meal, Pumpkin Hill Bistro is where you need to go.
