My wife and I came here for our 1st wedding anniversary.  It seemed like it would be a nice place to go that was away from Ft. Sill, but not super far away.  The view and surrounding area were pretty nice and there was a lot of hiking trails, although they could use to be improved a little bit.  Dense overgrowth can be hazardous in this part of the country.  When we arrived, it looked nice from the outside and the front staff was friendly.  We checked in, got our room key, and went to our room.  On the way to the room, we noticed the carpets were in need of a professional cleaning, but that was not a huge deal to us.  Then when we reached our room... our keys didn't work.  We returned and they tried remagnetizing the key, again they did not work.   The battery had died on the lock.  So we went back a second time and they gave us a new room with a better view.  The room was okay looking, but it seemed as though housekeeping liked to cut corners.  The bathroom grout needed cleaning and the glass was not wiped down on the windows.  Our balcony was also covered in spiderwebs and in desperate need of repainting.  We did what we could to keep ourselves entertained for the rest of the evening seeing as most all of the resort activities or activities near the resort were closed down or not currently running.  On our way out to look around, we ran into another couple having the same problems with their door that we had on ours, except they were already on their second room for the same problem.  When we went to the cafe, we saw that they closed between lunch and dinner, which was a little disappointing, so we went in town, got some food and returned.  We then went for a nice walk, saw lots of wildlife, and returned for a drink at the bar.  The restaurant staff seemed frustrated to have new customers coming in with two hours left until closing.  I might understand 30min before close, but two hours is not bad.  It took us quite awhile to get our drinks ordered and we felt like the staff was frazzled and overwhelmed with only about six parties in the entire place.  The exterior windows hosted a nice show of large sun spiders building their webs.  Interesting for my wife and I, but I can't imagine many people appreciate it.  On our way back to the room, we noticed that much of the building was covered in spider webs and insect nests.  Maintenance seemed to really be neglecting some of the basic tasks.  We woke up and went to breakfast the next morning.  The restaurant was about half full for breakfast and it still took us between 5 and 10 minutes to get seated.  Our order took quite awhile even though it was essentially just pancakes, eggs, and sausage.  Again, the staff seemed like they were flustered and overwhelmed with a half-full restaurant, many of whom were opting for the breakfast buffet option rather than placing meal orders.  In conclusion, this place has a lot of potential and could benefit heavily from some corporate ownership, but it has a long way to go.  Oh, and $130 seems a little high for the quality that we were getting.

7 years ago I would have given this place 5 stars.  It's so sad!  Appears as if maintenance has just stopped.  Our room had a moldy bath tub, torn curtains, a cracked sink, and the patio outside was covered in wasp nests, grass cuttings and cigarette butts.  I picked of the phone to call for more towels and it was gross.  (I never got those towels.  No one would answer the phone.  I had to go ask at the front desk.)
That all being said, the scenery and hiking trails are still amazing and my family had a great time.  I site hope this place gets some love soon!
I also intended to fill out a comment card left in the room, but there wasn't a pen in the room and I didn't have one with me.

Just moving to Altus, we have heard a lot about this place as a nice little weekend getaway.  Drove up on a Sunday and no one was there.  Literally.  The place was deadsville.  We had lunch (cheap, decent, huge portions - and open all day daily), went for a little walk, and checked out the hotel and grounds.

It is pretty up there, considering everywhere else around the area is flat and desolate, and the lake is great to look at even when low.

One thing that I was SHOCKED about was how dirty the grounds of the resort and lodge were.  As we walked all around the buildings, garbage was everywhere.  Garbage cans were full (obviously not emptied for days), a few cans were tipped over, looked like an animal had gotten into them.  I would think being out in the middle of nowhere like the resort is, they would have the garbages emptied every day.

I'm not sure if it was just a bad day for the maintenance/cleaning staff or what, but it was pretty disappointing.

I'm sure the reason this place exists is for conferences & weddings and stuff.  There really isn't anything else like it in the area (that I know of).  And if your from the mid-west, having a place in the 'mountains' is definitely gonna rock your boat.

I don't think my husband or I are willing to pay $120+ to stay the night for a getaway, but if there was an event or something up there, we would definitely go.

We will be going up to the area to do some hiking though, there are a bunch of trails and it will be nice to get some elevation in our steps.
