Not your typical Castro gay bars - less pretentious, heavy pours and cheap drinks.

One of my favorites bars ever. Long Islands in mason jars, sometimes free pool, smoking patio, friendly patrons, and good service. Shuffle board. Pinball. Its awesome.

Practically everything about the Rainbow is great.  People are fun, prices are fair.  The only thing I wish they'd change is that the volume of the music is sporadic.  I hate when it's cocktail hour (5pm - 8pm) and the music is so loud you can't hear the person you're talking to.  If they could increase the volume anytime *after* 8pm, my friends and I would be so much happier.

welcoming gay bar with a serious infusion of straights.  definitely a community place.  lots of special benefit nights for local causes -- the local cheerleaders the night we were there.  strong, reasonably priced drinks. I suppose bartenders could always have an off night, but Taylor spent a lot of time talking to us about the area and places to see and things to do.   Definitely worth a stop -- and not just for gays.

Rainbow cattle co. How I live thee. Who ever thinks these bartenders are mean must think soft cuddly puppies are porcupines! Very laid back welcoming feel here, I'm straight and this is ny favorite bar in guerneville. Gay bar? So what! Awesome people are awesome people.
I've been here a few times and liked it so much I threw ny 32 birthday here! Seemigly random free Pool nights, pin ball and shuffle board! AND I can take my drink onto their patio, which is secluded, and smoke! I think I might stay for awhile, or never leave..... Now if I can just get that hard ass smiley overly friendly bartender to make me a cot in the back....

Sad little place.  Snippy bartender.  Excuse the hell out of me for not knowing the rules.  (no credit cards)

Great bar.  Nice location.  Doorman fails to abide by CA law and the Americans with Disabilities Act by refusing access to Service Dogs (not a therapy dog or emotional support animal) but a Balance Dog.

The Rainbow is a Guerneville mainstay, our neighborhood gay bar, and over the last seven years, I've probably spent several hundred afternoons and evenings there with local friends, out-of-town guests, hordes of Guerenville summer-event goers (i.e., Lazy Bear & Women's Weekend) and just random passing through types. A little divey, but always a place you can be yourself and enjoy a cocktail beverage. 2 pool tables, shuffleboard, outside "patio" which is smoking and dog-friendly. The bartenders, with an occasional exception, sweet, attentive and friendly. The price of drinks has gone up over the years, but to be expected. If you want wine and less divey-ness, go down to the street to the Whitetail.

My girlfriend and I went there a week ago to celebrate my birthday at Russian River thinking this would be a gay-friendly bar where we could really cut loose and enjoy ourselves and the atmosphere, BUT this was not the case--On the first visit to check it out, the bartender was impatient with us and had a generally unfriendly attitude, making us feel unwanted and rushed--we were merely seeing if we wanted to go there on my actual birthday for a few drinks.

The second day (my birthday) we decided to wind down and give it a try, thinking maybe the staff would be nicer, but the bartender was short and rude about taking our order, not even realizing on my ID card (not that it`s part of his job description to, but it was sort of a let down) that it was actually my birthday--he didn`t even make small conversation with us.

Already being served, we decided to stay at the place a little bit to check out what it had to offer, since the decorations were neat and the events on pamphlets were outrageously gay-friendly, but even the customers seemed rather clique-ish and unfriendly.

My favorite quote of the night from my girlfriend was "Jeez.. Sorry we don`t have penises!"

I guess you have to be a gay male to get any decent service at this bar. :) I love feeling ostracized even though I`m GAY too!

    What a rip off.

Went there last week for happy hour and ordered a brandy coke and voda martini at happy hour - was $14 bucks.  When I questioned the high prices I was shunned by the bartender Bobby.

Went down to Stumptown Brewery and got the same thing with call liquor for $10 bucks.

Too expensive for my blood, especially at the River.  Makes more sense to drink in SF where prices are cheaper.

So if you have a budget, don't have cocktails here!

First time visitor this past Halloween and I am sold!! Awesome place!! Great atmosphere, killer drinks, cool people, and just fun, fun, fun !! Now I know why so many people on here rave about the Long Island Iced Teas this place serves up, they are the BOMB!!

This is a cool, laid back bar!

On the main strip, but still kinda of hidden, till you walk in.  The bartenders are cool and drinks are pretty strong! They have a dj, that plays top 40 and anything you request.  We had a fun time playing the salt hockey game!

    Over all fun!

Was in town for the Russian River Rainbow Classic softball tournament and the Rainbow Cattle Co was the host bar.  Normal type of bar with it's Dj, pooltables and back patio. The bar was well stocked and the bartenders were fast and friendly. Their specialty is the Long Island, Long Beach and Adios MF's served in a Mason Jar for $8. Deadly for those out there that are light weights. I stuck to beer, but had a taste of each and they were very yummy.  Though this weekend it was full of softball players, if I'm ever in Guerneville again I'd definitely go there again to hang out, drink and get sloshed with a few mason jars of fun.

Our bartender was not friendly, but not mean. He poured a highly horseradishy bloody mary. Not really my style. His martini was superwoman strong, and the shots of Greygoose at $7.75 were filled to the top with 80 proof goodness.

    I'd say that's enough for 4 stars.

Most of the locals gave us the cold shoulder. We smiled at several and got nothing but a blank stare. Sticks up there asses. Maybe?

Fun and friendly. I'm not a big fan of bars, but they make good drinks and it's a nice place to stop at while you're strolling through Guerneville.

Grabbed a couple of pints here with some girlfriends on a sunny afternoon and sat in the back patio with a bunch of dogs, presumably belonging to patrons drinking inside.  Because a bachelorette weekend isn't complete without drinks at a gay bar!   Beer was $4.50 I think which seemed pretty steep.  The ranch theme throughout is a great contrast to the techno that's playing!  Lots of friendly people who were only slightly miffed at our lack of male-ness.

Great place to hang out. Primarily a gay bar (for those not so inclined), but a way friendly place. The LI ice teas and margaritas were served in pint-sized mason jars. Well stocked bar. Pool tables, music, patio out back. Just across the street from the other gay bar in town (also across the street is a sports bar--I am guessing predominantly straight).

Have ever wondered where you can get a big strong drink ? Look no further than this bar!!! I heard rumors that the long islands were amazing and they were more than that....$10.00 bucks and you are pretty good for most of your day....or night...for either one is rather splendid.

Outside seating on the covered patio is secluded enough to be private and open all at the same time. Been there now a few times and find myself longing for the beautiful drive out and a long island iced tea. Other drinks are pretty fabulous as well, a decent tequila sunrise and vodka cran have all been tested and approved by myself and the crew.

Is it a gay bar? Many seem to ask me this...and yes I do believe it is. Is it low key, laid back and comfortable? Oh for sure folks. It has a country charm with a splash of class and possibility all wrapped into one. I will usually go for a drink..then end up there all day...and leave super happy.

    Rainy, rainy Saturday afternoon.

Bf- what do you feel like doing?
    Me- let's drink!
Bf-  ok there's that bar (points to Rainbow bar) and that bar (points to sports bar across way)
Me- Ok let's go to that one (points to rainbow)
BF- no, let's go to THAT one (points to sports bar)
Me- Ok- one round of pool at sports bar, but I heard they make meean drinks in there (points to rainbow)
    Bf- Ok

2 beers, 2 rounds of pool and 2 rounds of Area 51 later, we slosh through the rain across the street to rainbow bar.

Bf- this kind of looks like it's a gay bar?
Me- GEE ya think?? whatever, I want a fun drink and you'll love it
BF and me- walk in and all the leather- clad men at bar turn towards us (one lets out low whistle clearly intended for my beautiful man)
Me to bartender- what do you make that's strong and yummy
Bartender- besides that? (points to bf)
Me- I want a drink in one of those jars
Bartender- makes me long island in a huge mason jar ($8/jar- what a deal!)

I go and get $10 worth of quarters and we end up  getting sloshed and having an amazing time with the locals, pool tables, and Area 51.

    5 stars? Absolutron.

This is a local bar I hang out at for a few minutes to play a free game of pool with friends or have 2 drinks that are well priced and very well made!  I know all the bar tenders that work there and they all know me! I can go in and ask what is new and pretty much get the lay of the land in a few minutes! It's a nice little bar since it has a deck outside where one can drink and read a good book in the sun and have peaceful afternoon.

Get the Long Beach Iced Tea to split with a friend.

Best economic decision you'll make all vacation.

    It was the size of my head - <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fflickr.com%2Fphotos%2F18009532%40N00%2F2706267752%2F&s=dd0521eed4d3897a010aeb46157a589d94ee1023e1c6887c8472b0eca1f4c914" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://flickr.com/photos…</a>

There were about 5 different kinds of alcohol with heavy pours, and a tablespoon of cranberry.

The bartender gave a big toothy grin, as his eyes sparkled, when he handed it to me.

    "You're not driving are you?"

I told him that I didn't even know how drive.

    He smiled.

The drink was so strong that I even had to make a return visit, requesting he add more cranberry juice. He cocked his head as his eyes shone.

    "You said you weren't driving?!"

Rainbow is the Trax and Cinch rolled into one, with a big cup of "dive"
    thrown in for flavor.

They have a cute outdoor area, some fun pinball games, and an abundance of characters, which makes for superb random conversations.

My only complaint about Rainbow is that despite Britney Spears being played loudly by the DJ, no one even shook a tush.  We finally headed on over to Yamagata, since the bartender said that Rainbow isn't a huge dancing spot.

Budget buzz, bears, and a quirky crowd - though sadly no bumpin on the dance floor.

    Still we'll be back Rainbow.

The bartender with the chipped tooth was so good to us this past weekend. He told us about Rio Nido Roadhouse when we were feeling like pub food, and he told us about Club Yamagata when we wanted to shake our booties. And when Jessica, who barely drinks at all, wanted a drink, did he make her a drink.

Something sweet, she told him. And before he made her anything, he asked if she was going to be driving. 5 pours and 2 straws later, he handed over this: <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.flickr.com%2Fphotos%2F18009532%40N00%2F2705445569%2Fin%2Fphotostream%2F&s=c27f49bc84eba13f48935f9940fc191556ef3e987bb8621fb3a2ddbebb766511" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.flickr.com/ph…</a>

If you want to get butt drunk and only have $7, order a Long Beach Iced Tea. Great for a cheap date!

Gay boys: not much eye candy to write home about.

We walked in after a day of kayaking on the Russian River to find a shirtless bartender with leather suspenders on, and knew we were in the right place!

Two drinks for $7 bucks total -- that's a deal. Pinball, pool, shuffleboard, and video games (I am a sucka for Area 51. I love shooting all the aliens like a madwoman!). Plus, tons of drunk old gay men in hawaiian shirts to chat up.   They also serve long island ice teas (we passed on this one) in freaking JARS.  Don't miss it if you're in Guerneville!

I think the highlight of our time spent in this bar was playing that "salt hockey" game along the side (what is that called, anyway?).  Or it may have been spotting the old-school cigarette machine.  Or maybe it was the video of what the bartender claimed was the "national sport" of an Eastern European country - something to do with youth wrestling.

Good drinks, fair prices and lots of diversions/activities.  I was sad there were no darts, but the touch screen games sufficed.  We were there for an hour on a Wednesday night and had the run of the place with about 10 other people there total.  It's a huge space and felt a little weird with all that empty space.  The only thing I'd say is get some naked dudes on the erotic photo hunt games...it's a gay bar for cryin' out loud.

I love this place.  I've been going to Gurneville and camping at Johnson's Beach for about 20 years now, and it's great to walk up to town and head here for some beers, music and people watching.  They've always had a friendly crowd and the bartenders are quick with service.

I live in the Castro and I was impressed by how gay this place was.

The drinks were good (and well-priced) and the bartenders were great and quick.  The DJ was pretty good, too, and they were also showing Madonna concert videos on TV scattered throughout the place.

It's a wee bit louder than I'm used to, but otherwise, this is a great place to just get drunk.  Straight, gay, somewhere in between, doesn't matter.  You should be able to have fun here.

Gay man and fag hag bar.  It's funny to watch the straight couples poke their heads in and then realize it's a gay bar.  Their expressions are like "oh, oops" then walk away quickly.  I think all of the bars are kinda gay due to the amount of gay men in this little town.

The power was out, it was hotter than hell, and they had beer on ice.  Sold.

Our bartender had no shirt on.  That must be nice to be able to have a job where you don't have to wear a shirt.

i've gone on a few excursions up to guerneville and stayed at a friend's cottage, the most recent of which we stopped into the rainbow cattle co. on a hot-hot-hot day and experienced all that guerneville has to offer in one three hour period.  in one word?

    HILARIOUS.

granted it was noon, but the place was empty except for a few regulars who felt it necessary to eavesdrop and chime in on our conversation.  i don't know about you, but i love when people do this - especially when the interveners are handlebar mustache-clad, 50+ leather daddies.  yum and yum.

World cup re-con stop # 3: When one arrives into the dim interior of the Cattle Co., they are enveloped in a sweet incense fog. If it wasn't covering up bar smell (stale spilled beer/booze + dank room) then it would be almost pleasant. So this bar looks like your typical bar inside, dark with neon lights, beer taps, lots of stools along the bar and then some outlying tables, and a few dudes sitting and milling around at 7pm. It was clear that we were there before the action started, but what I loved was that they were playing videos of a "Bear"  event on their tvs. Friendly, furry, rotund, cuddly men in cut off jeans hugging and slapping ass, sweet! I think they were into the manfriend more for some reason. Nice people in here though.
