Last night was the first time for my group to visit your
establishment. We were all very impressed with the friendliness of
your staff. You all were so attentive to everyone's needs. The
theaters atmosphere took me way back about forty years. It was great
to see the owners take an active role managing and working right along
with the others to ensure the patrons comfort. I rarely send comments,
but I'm rarely this impressed. We will all be back. Looking forward to
your steakhouse.

Attended for the first time to watch a great program of performers, my friend Gary Hoey, RDG and the outstanding talent Taz Taylor on Saturday.  Was thoroughly impressed with the facility and their promotions.  Originally a movie theater lovingly restored in an art deco style, the Ramon Mainstage  features careful attention to acoustic control and a very sophisticated sound system.  Those elements residing within a relatively intimate setting allowed every note of the artists to be rendered clearly, both from a listening and visual perspective.  Even the bathrooms were luxurious for a live venue and that about sums up how much care the courteous owner has put into making this facility a first class operation.  Plans are in the works to offer more beverages and future bookings are impressive.  We are sure to be there again soon.
Review Source:This place is great! Â The sound, the set up, the vibe. Â Great place to see live music. Â It's not as far away as people think. I live at the beach in Del Mar and drove there in about 30 minutes... which is the same or less time that it takes me to get to El Cajon. Â It would be really easy to get to from the El Cajon area because all you have to do is go north on 67. Â Travel isn't the issue... it's the perception of it being far away. Â It's not. Â they're getting great acts, have some food available and some great local craft beers on tap. Â Tables, chairs and a dance floor in front of the stage. Terrific live music club. One of the top music venues in San Diego County...
Review Source:Awesome venue, great sound, great stage. My main reason for writing a review here is because of this recurring issue of it being a long drive...REALLY ??
I live in Imperial Beach, which as far as San Diego goes is about as far South West as you can go. I have been to Ramona Mainstage 6 times and it takes me about 45 minutes. I have spoken to people who live in La Mesa who think Ramona is an hour away ? One time I was in Poway and a guy I was talking to thought Brick by Brick (Bay Park) was closer that Ramona Mainstage...wtf ?
It's really not that far people.
Saw heavy metal  headliner MSG and openers  Taz Taylor and Symbolic on Sunday night.  We were expecting this night to be long, hot and tiring since I had not been there before and have been to some of the SD downtown venues which leave a lot to be desired.  As soon as I got in (with my husband) I said "this place is a nice venue."  I was thankful to get a coffee ($3) because I was already tired when I arrived at 7:15 pm.  The AC was very effective so we were comfortable all night.  I had not been to Ramona in a long time and it has grown a lot.
Review Source:this place is the real deal! Â It favorably compares to the Coach House in Capistrano and the early days of the Belly Up. Â we were there Friday night and the joint was rockin'! Â A very good local band, Malaki, opened the night and it flying and Pato Banton came on the the show went into orbit! Â
I've gotta agree with previous reviews, the sound is very bright.....some carpeting or sound attenuation blocks on the walls would clean up the sound, but the owners have done their homework with the basics of the PA system. Â The stage has enough size for a large band, with horns and back up singers, you could even do a small book show.
I have to admit that it took a while for me to try the place out, it bein' in Ramona and all, but this place is a nugget in a pan of mud. If you need to eat, there's diner food next door, lots of mexican places, pizza/italian places and a fair sushi bar just down the road apiece. Â As someone has mentioned, the Ramona Valley Inn is next to the Sizzler, but it's well worth walking 25 yards east to the burger stand. Â There are good rooms available out in the Estates, so if you're gonna make a day and night of it, it's well worth the time.
yeah, we'll be back.
Wow! Superb venue! All I have to say is being from Escondido, CA. (just 20 minutes west of Ramona)...why can't we have one too??? Clean outfit, nice ambiance, good seating, great sound...all around good time. Can see with some more money put into it by attendees (hint, hint), there is a lot of potential for this place to do great things.
Review Source:This place is so worth going to. Staff is really nice! The place is beautiful, I mean granite top bathrooms with marble flooring?! Wow! It is clean and the music was AMAZING! I had an awesome time. Good selection of beer and girly drinks too. The sound system is perfect as well. Looks like a lot of money was put into this place, I will surely be coming back!
Review Source:First time ever coming here. Decent venue, good sound, cover is high. Thought it was ok but after the 2nd band's set, the owner turned on the lights and asked who keyed up the men's room. He said if no one fessed up to f*ing up his house (his exact words) then he would pull the plug on the entire show. Then accused the band that had just played of doing it. We left shortly after that.
Review Source:*{Important info regarding nightly accommodations (read: hotels)--see last paragraphs}.
I went to Ramona Mainstage for the first time a couple weeks ago, despite living right down the street. Â Truth be told, when I saw the signs around town advertising the coming attractions, I thought they were showing, like, Movies or something - I didn't realize it Big Stars really perform In-Person! Â Recently they even had Midget Wrestling...Wow! Â Who woulda thunk....in the little backwoods town of Ramona!
(We Locals don't expect to see Rockstars like Edgar Winter or Comedians like Christopher Titus at the local coffeehouse on Saturday evening...but they often show up at Packard's after the show to grab some coffee before travelling back to civilization.)
Yes, it's remote, but how cool -- a really nice venue where you get to get "up close and personal" with the band. Â Drink prices are high (IMHO)....$7 for a wine cooler? But then, you don't have to contend with the jostling crowds of a big concert hall, or parking fees, or bathrooms that reek of human shortcomings. Â
I wouldn't have written a review, but I realized none of the other reviews had really pointed out or emphasized the local options for lodging. Â The Ramona Hotel is just a block away, and despite its slightly lackluster exterior, it is a very nice place to stay -- see my review for more info.
One also has the option of staying at the Ramona Country Estates Resort/ San Vicente Country Club, which is about 10 minutes south, off San Vicente Rd. Â They take reservations, and I've heard that they accept walk-ups--but I think the front desk closes at 10pm. The most important thing is that you NOT try to find the hotel for the first time after enjoying a show and a few $7 beers. Â The road is not well-lit and the curves will surprise you.
I wasn't too impressed with this place. It's clean and has a nice sort of art deco-y theme going on, but the food and drinks were disappointing. The food was cheap, frozen, pre-packaged stuff you'd expect to buy at a movie theater. The only alcohol they had was beer and wine coolers. At the end of the show, the sound/lighting guy went so crazy with the fog machine the place looked like it had caught fire. I'm not sure I would come here again, unless the bands were amazing.
Review Source:Loved it X 2! Â Worth the trip out to Ramona. Â
After my first show I learned the secret to the overnight stay; Â go out by San Diego County Estates and rent a condo. Â Clean, cheap and they have a restaurant for breakfast. I booked on line, but I'll bet you can just walk up in the golf clubhouse for registration. Â
Back to Mainstage. Â if you are looking for the Gaslamp and a street scene, you will be bummed. Â Main street Ramona is kind of American Graffiti, Â Small town 1962. Â Kinda safe and cozy. Â I enjoy the vibe, you might too.
I have been to several shows at the Ramona Mainstage and have been pleased every time. I have seen live bands including Eddie Money and John Waite, a comedy show and with the persistent urging of my friend midget wrestling. The Ramona Mainstage presents a great variety of entertainment that is reasonably priced and fun. They serve some food, including pizza, which I thought was good and 20 oz. beers for between $5 and $6 depending on your brand choice. There are other food and drink options too. Many people seem to have the impression that Ramona is incredibly far to drive to. However, those same people will drive the same distance to get to other areas of the county. It's a mindset that may keep some from experiencing this an ultra cool venue. It's beautiful! You can see photos on their website, but it's even better in person. The Ramona Mainstage seems to have been designed in a way that there really doesn't seem to be a bad seat in the house. It has a stellar sound system, great stage and friendly employees. You're not going to spend a lot of extra time driving around looking for parking or having to pay for it when you do find it either. There is free parking in the adjacent lot, as well as all around on the street. And as I mentioned before great shows!
Review Source:Drove up from P.B. to see Marshall Tucker. Got there 2 hrs. early to get a good seat. First one in line. Did the same thing a couple of months earlier to see Little River Band. But this time when I get in there are NO seats. Standing only. And the backup bands friends has the only front row seats. Where did it say standing only on the web page? NOWHERE? Try to talk to the owner about the lack of info and request a refund. Other people come up and want the same thing. Blows us off rudely. No way to run a business. Karma baby!
Review Source:You mean I can order food, have a drink , SIT at a general admission concert AND have clean bathrooms at my disposal?? Wow, it *almost* makes it worth the drive out to Ramona! ;-)
I have to admit if this place was anywhere but Ramona I'd prolly be there every weekend seeing a show! It really is a great little venue to see a concert -- gorgeous, comfortable and with pretty good acoustics. Â I *wish* we had some place this great up in the OC.
The drive is a drag and there's not even a decent place to stay in town so ya gotta drive back. If not for the location, I'd give it 5 stars.
**the drive to the middle of nowhere sucks
***they only serve beer and wine coolers...so i don't drink here...better that way b/c of the long mountainous drive home...
***the venue is beautiful! it is an old movie theater transformed into a nightclub...but the kept the aesthetics of the theater. Â
love that i can take my kids with me! Sure we have Soma club for the kids, but no seating for us old folks....here i get to sit and enjoy a show and my kids are right by my side...i'm sure when they are older they'll be rockin' out at the stage...but they are still very young.
excellent acts come through here, staff is very friendly...the sound system is rockin! Â if your ever in the area of ramona...check out a show here...
One foot in the gutter, one fist in the gold.
The Ramona Mainstage is located in a horse ranch suburb of San Diego. Formally a movie theater, Â this place has been transformed into a performance hall.. Clean..Casual...Places to mosh or just kick it in a booth or table.
Came here to watch Lynch Mob ( with opening act Caustic Felon).
<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/L7zPdfRnyu3Cjw2cGs__wA?select=Lov1Q1rptZIj9QvugIVUew">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>
- Pizza slices ( straight from the Pizza Box of the local Pizza joint).
- Wear earplugs.. Crap it was loud!!
- No snarky "Holier than thou" staffers.
- Would I come here again? Hell yeah.
The only negative would be that some bands may cut the set short and get out of this one street town asap...
This is a great venue. Â Its kind of a drag to have to drive all the way out the Ramona to see a metal show, but the Mainstage makes it all worth while because a show here will usually be 5-6 incredible bands from all corners of the world.
My favorite things about this venue are, good sound, good beer, and good people. There's lots of space, and there's a lot of tables and chairs too. The weird feeling of being at a restaurant to see a metal band will pass quickly, and besides Its cool that I have the option to sit with a friend, talk, and drink beer, instead of standing all night. Â I also like that I can walk to the front of the stage, and be real up close and personal with the musicians of my favorite band while they play. Its awesome when a singer stops in front of you and gives you a hi-5. Additionally I like that the bar is located at a quieter place and this allows for some interesting networking opportunities.
The Mainstage also offers the opportunity to meet & greet the band members for a few extra dollars. This is cool, I like to bring my camera and convince bands to take pics with me.
Usually the metal shows are supposed to be all ages, but if you are under 21, you need to bring a guardian with you, or else you are SOL.
Overall the Ramona Mainstage is doing a great job of supporting metal, and delivering a quality venue where one can have tons of fun, listen to great music, drink Stone beer, and sometimes meet some interesting people.
Came here with a friend to see several metal bands. Â Hypocrisy headlining. Â
The venue is small enough to get right up in there, but large enough to not feel crowded. Â I was able to get up to the 2nd row of peeps without having to throw any elbows. Â Similar to the Belly Up in Solona Beach. Â Super clean. Â GREAT beer selection. Â I was drinking Stone IPA all night. Â The people running the place were SUPER nice. Â It's strange when you show up in your metal gear, and these middle aged country folk welcome you with open arms. Â I was extremely tired (and a wee bit buzzed) and fell asleep a.k.a. passed out on a bench/booth inside the venue. Â Yes, slightly older drunk girl passing out. Â No one bothered me though. Â It's like they knew all I needed was ~20mins of shut eye. Â The only downside I'd say was that we purchased VIP tix and were told to listen to an announcement instructing VIP's to whatever treatment the extra $20 cost. Â Didn't hear anything until the end of the show. Â They were kicking everyone out, all except VIP ticket holders. Â You get to meet the band after the show. Â That's about it. Â I dunno. Â Isn't it normal for the band to stick around and meet their fans after the show? Â Well, smaller venues only, but this would fall into that category. Â
I didn't feel rushed out or anything. Â As I said, it's like a mom and pop music venue. Â Definitely will revisit again.
This is the new home of Heavy Metal!! Â I'm soooo excited to finally have the proper tools to give the loyal metal scene the AMAZING shows they deserve! Â Working with the owner is awesome. Â We're making many changes to this venue to make in #1 in San Diego! Â We already have Moonspell/Divine Heresy, Eluveitie/Belphegor/Alestorm, Vader/Decrepit Bith, D.R.I, Green Jello, and Korpiklaani/Tyr all locked down to play here! Â Email me for more info. Review Source:I have fam up in Ramona and I can remember way back in the day coming to this place when it was a 2-screen theater...all janky like. Â I am so stoked that they kept it an entertainment venue and it is pretty awesome inside. Â I love old-school inspired places...they have a bunch of black & whites of various stars lining the walls, the decor is classy and clean. Â Like people have said, its roomy. Â I went here on a Sat for a wedding reception and we had such a good time. Â I agree that the fact it is all the way up in BFRamona definitely takes it down a few notches but if you can get a few peeps together for a night out on the town and they have a decent act playing, it could be worth it. Â
I will say this though, the prices are a buck or two higher than they should be...If/when I come back, I will definitely be packin my flasks. Â Thats right, more than one.
Other than that, the guys running it seem to be decent enough and I think this place will do alright for itself. Â Definitely a positive addition to that lil town.
I actually found this to have sooooo much potential if they were NOT in Ramona.
The place is big, roomy, clean, & has a great bar (which serves good food & Starbucks coffee drinks!).
The stage is nice for all to enjoy(musician, photo, attendees).
The downside is they can't get enough to fill it enough since it's way up & out there.(after a great show a few drinks who's driving?to& back) for this gal it makes a too late & long night.
This place has potential. But what a drag it was to play there!
It was mostly our fault for booking a gig on 4th of July...noone can compete with a fireworks display.
The stage is a nice size...the place is clean and roomy.
The reason I'm giving it one star is because:
THEY DON'T PROVIDE VOCAL MICS FOR THE BAND!
If I didn't happen to bring mine...I woulda been shit outta luck.
If you want to be sure you can get a table, go to this place. Â It was totally dead aside from the group I went with. Â The 80's rock cover band went on about 9:00 to a total of maybe 20 people.
I did not like the way the bar was located at the entrance to the theater and all of the seats were inside.
This place is actually a pretty good idea if they can find a group of regular patrons...otherwise don't expect them to be open much longer. Â It is never fun to go to an empty bar.
This place rocks!
New music venue in North County. Â It used to be a movie theater, and now it's a night club/concert venue. Been to a few shows here. Big on the rockabilly scene.
They also have local SD microbreweries on TAP!
50s Hollywood meets new age technology in San Diego's back country. Â You experience for yourself.
