Just returned from a great dinner at Rancher's. Â I had the filet and it was one of the best I've had. It was cooked perfectly and the butter sauce on it was superb. My husband had the pork chop. It was huge and very tender. Sides of asparagus and potatoes were generous and tasty. Service was very attentive and quick. We will definitely go back.
Review Source:This place is inconsistent. We have gone to The Ranchers several times. The first time, the food and the service were excellent. We left feeling that Ruidoso had a new gem of a restaurant. The second time, the service was good, but the food was just OK.
The last time we went, not only was the food just OK, but the service was absolutely lousy. Our waitress only had four tables, but she was gone for long periods of time. We (and the other tables) took to stopping bussers and the other waitress to get service. We had salads first, and one of them was wrong. The entrees took a very long time and had cooled by the time we got them. I had ordered a glass of wine when she first came by, but it didn't come until after the entrees, and that only because we got the attention of the busser.
I asked the busser what was going on with the waitress, and he hemmed and hawed, then said she was trying to put things together 'back there'. Again, she only had four tables, and the other side had only three. It wasn't busy at all, so what was she trying to put together? We were very disappointed. Turns out Ruidoso doesn't have a new gem of a restaurant with The Ranchers.
I'm giving them two stars, instead of one, because the servers are all very nice and know the menu well. Also, I still remember that perfect first visit, and hope that they will become consistently excellent.
This place was really, really great. I had the MYO burger with gruyere and carmelized onions. The burger was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Â All the food tasted fresh. The blue cheese dressing on my salad was amazing. Susie took great care of us and we never wanted for a thing. I can't wait to go back for dinner.
Review Source:I took my brother and dad out to dinner here to celebrate New Year's. I have no qualms with paying top-dollar for good food, especially when it's a special occasion and family's involved. The Ranchers was OK, but not worth the dough. I've had better steak at Cattle Baron's.
I had their Rancher's special, which was a bone-in rib-eye. It was cooked right, but the steak wasn't great. My wife had the filet, which was overcooked from her order, but I liked nonetheless. I will say that they give you many options here, so if you can't find something (be it chicken, pork, steak, fish, whatever) you must be very picky. I love that they offer beefsteak tomato slices as a side.
I found the wine to be surprisingly affordable, with a diverse selection. Some of my faves from California were present, and the bottle wasn't ridiculously expensive.
I'm not sure what happened to the previous person that reviewed but I ate lunch here today and the food and service was excellent! I had the French dip and the roast beef was fresh and juicy, topped with caramelized onions and the yummy onion rings and gruyere cheese. The bread was perfectly toasted and the spicy au jus was excellent! Had tiramisu for dessert and it was so yummy! Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Will definitely return and will try dinner.
