This place gets one star because I really liked the way they decorated it. Â My initial impression was a nice & simple menu of burgers and sandwiches. Â With high hopes we ordered the special of the day, Portabello Mushroom Burger and the Sweet Potato Fries. Â The burger arrived swimming in a puddle of grease, bottom bun nearly saturated. Â Unseasoned, tasteless burger patty matched the mushroom placed on it. Â Fries were saltless. Â Our server asked how things were and I commented that nothing seemed to be seasoned. Â She said they don't season anything there and offered some seasoned salt. Â
I really appreciate an establishment that doesn't go overboard with the sodium content, but salt & pepper is cooking 101 to me. Â Salt & pepper helped the burger a bit, too late to help the fries though. Â Hmmm...can't think of the last time I had a burger that was this bad.
The curb appeal of Red Brick Grill was great. Â However, the menu and beer selection are typical small town fare. Â Primarily fried ______ (fill in the blank) and way too many watered down crap beers (over half of the beers come from Bud, Coors, or Miller, all swill).
By expanding their menu just a bit and putting some thought into their beer (think WI and MN microbrew) and wine menu, this place would improve by leaps and bounds and stil satisfy their normal customer.
We stopped here again yesterday after another drive. The place is much quieter in the winter months. I talked to our wait person a little and he said it is really quiet up there in the winter. I think the tourists slow down quite a bit in the winter months.
I tried their white cheddar cheese curds this time as I have been hankering for cheese curds. They were good - I couldn't figure out why they weren't great until we were driving home - I am used to cheese curds being so salty I have to drink a lot of liquid with them - and so greasy that I feel like I could ring out my hands and get a pile of Crisco out of them. These were not overly salty and they were so not greasy that I barely needed a napkin. They were good and probably better for us health wise than the ones I am used to - but they weren't the State Fair kind of greasy salty goodness.
I got a burger again - this time a BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger with fried onions and my hubby got a chicken Swiss and Mushroom. Both were really good and had their yummy waffle fries with them.
And just in case you get the urge to try this place over the winter - their winter hours are:
Closed :Sunday, Monday, Tuesday.
Wednesday: 11-8
Thursday, Friday & Saturday: 11-9
