Last night, my wife and I were driving through the area. Â We were getting a bit hungry, so I read through a list of area restaurants on our GPS. When I reached the Red Geranium, my wife interrupted me, saying, "That's the one!" I asked her, "Why?" Â She said, "Many years ago, my mom and I ate there. Â When my sister found out, she was really disappointed that she didn't come with us! Â It's a nice place. Â At least, it used to be." Â Long story short -- it's still a nice place!
Here is a summary of our highlights:
* Linen tablecloth, nice silverware, clean, pleasant atmosphere
* Casual to formal casual attire
* Great, personable service
* Wonderful Friday night fish fry
* Get the She Crab soup -- it's really as good as everyone says!!!
* All of the food is top notch
* Prices on menu might seem a bit high, but you get what you pay for...and the specials are very reasonable
After the soup and fish fry, we could not accommodate dessert. Â I asked our waitress, who happened to be the restaurant's dessert chef, what she would suggest. Â As chocolate lovers, she recommended the chocolate cake with raspberry sauce and suggested that I heat the cake for about 20-seconds before eating it. Â I did. Â After heating it, the chocolate became almost like mousse. Â It was excellent!
If you are looking for a pub or a fast food restaurant, go somewhere else and don't post a review here, complaining that it isn't what you want. Â If you are looking for an upscale fish fry, I can heartily recommend The Red Geranium!
Nice little restaurant near the highway and Grand Geneva resorts. sort of a brunchy kind of place, but they do serve dinner. we had the grilled chicken wrap which is ok, and the quiche of the day which was very good. i had a cup of the she crab soup which was amazing. and very rich. Â certainly a nice place for lunch/brunch i might return for a dinner at some point. Â Recommended.
Review Source:We've been there off and on for quite a few years now when we visit Lake Geneva, though since it is just off the Highway 50 exit on Highway 12, it is well located for those travelling down that way to the northwestern suburbs of Chicago. Â To me, it has kind of a tea-roomy ladies-lunch kind of vibe, but that may be because my wife has had me take her to a couple of luncheon fashion shows there. Â The staff is very friendly, right down to the cook, whom you pass at work as you walk in, and I'm rooting for them to do well. Â I don't think I can rave about the food, but it is certainly OK. Â At the moment, they are running a 2 for $28 special with a choice of appetizer, entree, and desert at both lunch and dinner--quite a good deal for a nice restaurant.
