I debated between a 2 and 3 star review. I have mixed feelings about Red Monkey. First, Walla Walla needs more places that serve bar food like sandwiches, fries, etc. Â On the other hand Monkey seems like it is trying to be something else and lacks from a sense of identity. The food is good, albeit not great. Nothing has blown me away and I get the sense that is not really what they are aiming for. The service varies from horrible to passable. We rarely get good service and never great service. Generally it falls into the area of mediocre. Actually, mediocrity really sums up Monkey well. Â Not bad, but when you leave you will immediately forget your experience. Â We'll continue to go back because of lack of options but will probably jump ship the first chance we get.
Review Source:No bueno! We arrived at 11:30 am on a Wednesday before the "lunch rush" with a reservation. Although people who had arrived later that us were able to order, get their food, and leave. It wasn't until 12:30 pm when our food finally arrived (well almost everyone's food, there was a hold up with one Panini order...). After waiting for an hour we had to have it boxed, which took another 10 minutes of waiting. Then we had to wait again for waitress to print out our tickets and pay bill. Â Food was cold. No melted cheese on the sandwiches, soup cold. Panini was barely grilled with the cheese not melted, fries cold. Service was lacking.
I have had two previous similar experiences at the Red Monkey and decided to give it another shot. I won't be going back...EVER!!!! Better food for the price can be found a lot of other places. Group consensus was to go elsewhere from now on.
this place SUCKS. Â well, i imagine it would since we never got in.
i live in san francisco but my wife grew up in walla walla. Â we came back to visit family and friends. Â everyone talks about small town hospitality being so wonderful. Â well, the staff at this place must be from new york city. Â they treated us more like criminals than clients.
we got there late, like 1 AM. Â they not only wanted to charge us a cover for a no DJ night but searched us more thoroughly than TSA!
we left and went to another bar that was suggested called the Green Lantern. Â good choice. Â WAY better. Â no a$$ holes or douchebags.
I loved this place! We were in town to meet up with some friends, and just happened by the Red Monkey. It looked fun from the outside, and a good place to sit and wait for our friends to get to town. It was so good! My husband had the whiskey steak and was doing that moaning thing guys do, while I had THE BEST fettuccine alfredo!! I had a "Hangover" (really yummy) and my husband had a pitcher. Plus while we were there  a musician was up on the stage, and after his set out comes a DJ and the whole floor filled up with people dancing! It is a one stop shop for dinner, drinks, and dancing!
Review Source:The place to go now in Walla Walla for everyone. I can go in for lunch on a weekday and there is a nice business crowd. Then on Tuesday nights it is full of diversity for a fun trivia night. Wednesday night they have some good open mic performances. Friday and Saturday night it's the place to go shake your ass to the newest music hits and if I'm lucky a few old school hits as well. All the servers are dolls and the food is good and reasonably priced. There are several beers on tap and they are always changing. Whatever you order from the kitchen, get the chipotle ranch sauce to dip it in.
Review Source:Thumbs down! They are doing it all wrong. You can see some effort with the decor and lounge area couches. But what makes a great bar/grill is good drinks, good munchies, good friendly service. The past few things I've ordered...NOT good! They seem to be skimping on food, and alcohol.
The bartenders seem nice to your face at first, but don't expect any help from them if there is a problem with your bill. If you go, do CASH. They will not fix any kind of error on the credit card.
This isn't Vegas or LA. I think in a town this small, they should really try to be accomodating and treat their patrons well, after all they ARE your business.
And while I appreciate a good security system in place, the bouncers are creepy. They surround the dance floor and stare you down. It's silly.
Right up the street from Saffron, the Red Monkey is Walla Walla's attempt at a upscale "Las Vegas style" dance club and lounge. Â Afternoons and evenings during the week, the Monkey is a clean and comfortable sports bar, with plenty of big-screen TV's and a pleasant atmosphere. Â Food is reasonably priced and pretty tasty, with selection from big juicy burgers to some seafood. Â If you like people watching, then on weekend nights you'll be in for a treat rivalling an airport. Â Expect to see a menagerie of Walla Walla's 20-somethings, some older hipsters and a few obvious out-of-towners get dudded up (there's a dress code) and wait in line for their chance to try out an "exclusive" Walla Walla club experience. Â Honestly, I think the cover charge helps attract people longing for exclusivity. Â Hey, whatever works.
Review Source:This place is apparently the "new hotness" in town. It's pretty jazzed up inside, really nice decor and some side lounge seating areas for large groups to hang out and sink into. (The bathrooms have really sexy faucets...really. sexy faucets.) The staff is really friendly and deft at brushing off the drunk jackasses that they must deal with daily while still wearing a smile. The drink selection has a lot of variety and of course, comes with some signature drinks that are pretty great.
I gave the 4 stars really just because of the food. They had a great build-your-own burger, but I think this place is still struggling to find their food niche' here in Walla Walla and for some of the dishes--it shows.
Great place though, absolutely hopping on a Saturday!
