Absolutely loved this place! Our server Lyndsay was awesome! She was noticeably busy but still made an effort to engage us in conversation and talk craft beer with the table. Really friendly and down to earth.
The food is amazing as well! The sweet potato fries are a must! And if you're sitting by the popcorn machine (like we were) don't be afraid to just grab a bowl. They really emphasize local brewers and have a nice selection of craft brews. Unlike other restaurants on the block, they keep their beer list updated so you don't walk in expecting to order something and then get disappointed when you find out they don't have it.
Of all the bars/pubs/restaurants on this block don't think twice about going into The Reservoir!
I love this place. Nothing less to say than absolutely great from service to food to beer selection. Â Bar is in the back and restaurant is in the front. Â There's nothing to dislike about what is not only the best of Waterbury but likely one of the best meals I've had in Vermont or anywhere for that matter. Â Great Salmon Dish cooked to perfection and with Salmon that means undercooked with great veggies to boot. Â They have Hill Farmstead selection and a host of local brews on tap. Its really amazing how great this place is especially with the other awesome choices in Waterbury. Â It almost makes me want to move here...
Review Source:Great food! Boyfriend and I had 2 different burgers and they both came out awesome. Well-cooked, albeit so big it was kind of hard to eat. I had to eat mine with a knife & fork. I would definitely come back again if I were in the area, especially for the poutine and mac & cheese. Prices were very reasonable for the fresh, well-prepared food we got (granted, we're used to NYC prices).
Review Source:Love this place and look forward to my annual trip to Stowe especially for The Reservoir.
The first time I visited, we chose The Reservoir on the likely chance there would be TVs playing sports. Â I was then forced to spend 6 hours here due to life or death football games. While my husband sat anxiously in his seat watching the game, my love for this pub grew more with every beer and order of food.
Beer: Great rotating selection of craft beers. I like how they note the local beers and that you can get a sampler.
Food: Wow, the food was fantastic! I have been dreaming about the Rezetarian burger and have tried unsuccessfully to recreate it many times. This is what all pub food should be like.
I love that it's still a laid back pub that can be a sports bar and still serve wonderful beer & food. I can't wait for my visit this weekend!
We always go to The Reservoir when we are in Waterbury which is a few times a year. Only positive comments for this place. First of all, the draft list is generally excellent with something for everyone. They focus on Vermont brewed beers. But have others as well. Â I like the printed out beer list which gives information including the alcohol content, the type of beer and the rating from the Beer Advocate. The food is very good. We have never been disappointed. The soup is great and the salads are good, too. My husband enjoys the burgers.
Review Source:The Reservoir looks like an ordinary bar from the outside- and when you walk in it, it still looks like an ordinary bar. But when you open the menu, and read about the twists on traditional bar food, and the focus on quality ingredients and local farmers and breweries, and then you taste and smell the delicious aroma when your dish comes out (poutine, truffle fries, mac & cheese, giant burger)- you know you are in an extraordinary bar. Even after stuffing yourself with way too much ice cream at the Ben & Jerry's factory, and feeling so full you couldn't possibly eat another bite, you somehow clean your plate because it's that good.
PS- Don't miss the pool table and games in the back!
Great Beer, decent food, spotty service. We went to the reservoir on Presidents weekend and it was quite busy, though not 100% full. They have a great microbrew list with many choices and the beer is the best thing about this pub. The food is decent, although I would stick to the burgers and avoid the entrees. Â Problem was the service? Almost an hour to get a burger and fish and chips to the table?
Here are some basics to service in ANY eating establishment...(1) After the party is seated come over and bring menus and take drink orders..check. (2) Deliver the food in a timely manner - fail. (3) IF food is taking a long time the server should stop back at the table and let the group know when its expected.. fail. (3) Bring the appetizers out first, not together with the meal - FAIL. (4) Check back with the table after the food is brought (FAIL). If you're constantly trying to find your server to order, to ask when the food will come, if your drinks run empty, if you are sitting with dirty dishes for 15 min after you're done eating, then that is a serious gap in service.
I might eat here again on a weeknight, but never when its very busy. Finally, if you don't like eating dinner on a barstool, then find another restaurant.
I can't believe that this place turned out to be my favorite restaurant on the whole trip. If you like veggie burgers and try theirs, you'll never enjoy another. This is one of those rare places that actually try to have a flavorful veggie burger, and they definitely succeed. The atmosphere is a typical sports bar scene, and they have a great variety of beers. If you enjoy good food, (probably good beer,) and good people, give The Reservoir a try.
Review Source:The Reservoir is my go o restaurant in Waterbury. Â My wife and I have yet to be disappointed. Â The Res has (I think) the largest draft beer selection in the entire state, many of these beers are from Vermont. Â They always have something from Hill Farmstead, Lawson's Finest Liquids and The Alchemist Heady Topper available(can only), as well as many other goodies for all of your beer geek needs. Â This is a great place to watch a football game, or just to go and meet up with friends to have a drink.
The food is good, not reinventing the wheel here, but definately great food for a production kitchen. Â The burgers are usually my go to, but the fish tacos are consistent and tasty. Â They have great wings, french fries and salads, my wife loves the spinach salad with there balsalmic vinaigrette and chicken. Â If you are feeling adventurous try the Truck Driver burger, 1 lb of beef stuffed with blue cheese, and with what feels like another lb of bacon on top. Â This thing is massive. Â I tried once and ate 3/4 of it. Â Then i went home and hibernated. Â
Great food, great beer and good service are what this place is all about. Â Its really nice to have this place just a short walk from my house, i know what im getting every time, and it does not bust the budget either. Â Definately worth a try if you're in the neighborhood.
This place was great. The beer selection alone is worth going for. 38 beers on tap and more in bottles. They also try to carry as many local beers as possibly, which is great. The food was also fantastic for the price. I had the fish tacos, my gf had a burger and we shared the hummus plate and poutine and everything was great. The hummus was made in house i guess and was delicious. Food wasnt greasy, the side salad was tasty and the rice and beans perfectly cooked. Great place. Inviting atmosphere. Will def go again!
Review Source:Remains four stars but whether they take reservations or not remains unclear. Reserved a table for 11-no problems. Called to make a reservation for 12-"We don't take reservations and never have." Um er ah excuse me-two weeks ago you did. Came in a month later with a party of 6-you should've called ahead for a reservation. C'mon folks-what is the deal?
Review Source:Fantastic service and great beer selection. I had some sort of sour cherry beer, which was good, but after that I tried a clementine beer and that was heavenly. We had the poutine app - amazing - followed by a cheddar flatiron steak that was cooked perfectly and very rich and sat atop a heap of fries. Given that I'd wolfed down the poutine, the steak and fries meal with a heavy sauce atop it was a bit repetitive and I probably would have been happier with something else. My husband had a ribeye and he said it was good but a bit underseasoned. All in all a fantastic dinner and I would definitely recommend - the poutine alone was worth the trip:)
Review Source:Great beer list, delicious food, good service!
We stopped in late on a weeknight, exhausted and hungry. Our drinks (again, the draught beer menu is full of local and other domestic stars) were ordered and brought promptly. My husband complained that the beer was served in a 14oz mason jar, not a 16oz pint glass. The poutine was fantastic- deliciously melted curds and a great homemade gravy over fantastic fries.
He got a burger- rare as he ordered!- with fries, I got the pulled pork with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was good, but the fries were better. We left stuffed and happy. Nice job!
Quite a few indoor tables, some outdoor tables, a short bar and a long bar make up the lay-out of The Reservoir. Â On the walls, there are various decorations, with some nods to the local ski culture. Â Waitstaff was friendly and did their best to keep up on a busy night. Â The beer was very good, with some interesting European beer like Mikkeller, quite a bit of VT brews and more offering from other parts of the U.S.
Food was decent, pub grub for the most part. Â Some other choices like lamb, pulled pork, others were also available. Â Could take a decent sized group here or a family, but as the night wears on, crowd seems to get a bit rowdier (not a big surprise).
A quick stop in here from a trip to Stowe and I was pleasantly surprised. Â This is a casual place, the inside is dark, casual and definitely has the air of a locals spot when the sun goes down. Â We had dinner here and ate out on the deck--the weather was pleasant so the atmosphere was nice. Â The first thing that struck me, as it usually does, was the beer menu. Â This menu, if it were to stand alone, gets 5 stars--they have something like 100 available beers. Â Many of which are local, but the list is dominated by craft breweries. Â This is a great spot to sit outside and try some new beers. Â Feeling nostalgic I got a heady topper and silently mourned the missing Alchemists that used to be right down the street. Â
The food here was pretty good.  Considering this is not fine dining and is a casual spot I would actually say the food above the quality I expected.  I had the pulled pork sandwich which was nice and tender and juicing.  They didn't mask the flavor with BBQ sauce either, which I thought was a good move.  My girlfriend and her mother both got the turkey burger on gluten free buns, and they raved about this sandwich--I would wager a guess this is a hot seller here.  My girlfriends father got a steak and this looked a bit undercooked from what he ordered, and was served on a delectable bed of fries--kind of a low class move for  a steak in my opinion, but then again I don't order stark out unless it is a fine dining situation. Â
Over all this was a nice place to stop. Â The service was quick and pleasant and the food was good for what they do. I recommend this place if you are passing through the Waterbury area.
Stopped by for late lunch/early dinner after snowboarding and here's my first impression.
Chili - Decent, ive had better
Burger - Amazing & juicy, awesome touch with the jalapenos
It was super filling to share. I will come back for the burger and try out their beers next time, but overall nothing special.
Love, love, love the Rez! Â We've been coming here for years and it has never let us down. Â We've brought friends and family along at times too, and they also rave.
It's not a touristy place at all, and has good locally sourced food without the expensive faux gourmand vibe you get elsewhere in town.
We have our favorites ... The excellent lamb burger, fish tacos and the meatloaf come to mind first. Â In fact, the lamb burger and fish tacos are our go-to entrees whenever we first roll into town ... It's like coming home.
Live band nights can be really loud in the small front dining area, so check the website for schedules if that isn't what you are looking for.
Just got back from dinner with my family. Â I have mixed feelings about this place. Â The food was good. I had the firehouse burger and it was terrific. Â My wife and daughter split a Caesar salad and pulled pork sandwich. Â The puuled pork was good. It was sweet, but not overbearingly sweet. Â The Caesar salad was the typical you will find anywhere - typically too much dressing. Â My son had a steak burrito with no steak to speak of.
We were seated at 635 pm and ordered by 645. Â We didn't get our food until 730 pm. I don't know about you, but that is a LONG time for these type if dishes. But what I notice was the orders were coming out in the same order as we were seated. Â Does that mean the kitchen could only work on one table's order at a time? And if it is going to take that long, at least get the order correct. My son ordered a burrito with no beans. Â Guess what came with it? We would have normally asked (politely of course) if they could fix the order, but we didn't want to wait until tomorrow to get our food.
So, I would give the food a four star, but a one star for timeliness on getting your food. That is why I have to give it a three star rating. It just took too long to get our food.
Been here four times now with a relative, and I've been plesantly suprised with the place. The location has changed owners several times, and this newest incarnation of an eatery is certainly winning me over.
The menu is small but good, and there's a lot of local favorites on the list. There's a full bar, several TV around the room(s) display whatever sports games happen to be playing, and the atmosphere is casual and friendly, if not spartan.
The food is good, reminds me of the kind of food you think of in a Tavern. Indeed, that's kinda what this place is. The quality is pretty good but not terribly consistant, once or twice I've had to bring up a minor issue with the server (ie wrong toppings or something was overcooked), but it's still not enough to dim my opinion of this place.
Parking is kinda tricky though, techinally they don't have a parking lot, so you either need to find a space on the street (which is impossible) or you need to cheat and use someone else's, like the bank or a nearby resturant's.
All in all, a good place to have a casual sit-down meal with a friend or two.
I loved this place and would definitely come back. We say in the pub area, with TVs and pool tables, to watch the football games, and had great service by the bartender/waitresses there. Very friendly and prompt, and they remembered to bring me water when I asked for it!
They apparently have the largest tap selection in Vermont- and they do certainly have a lot, most of which are local craft beers. They offer a sampler of any 4 Vermont Beers (I love samplers, so this is a HUGE plus, AND I loved that they limited it to VT beers to encourage people to try them!.)
I had (my four samplers and a taste of a pint: (in order of fave to least fave)
Hill Farmstead Twilight of idols. delicious vanilla porter
Harpoon Vermont Spruce Tip Ale: funky and good, tastes like a Christmas tree
Lawson's Finest Red Spruce Bitter. smooth and deliciously drinkable
Long Trail Truck Driver- malty, roasted, a little plain
Otter Creek Alpine Black- too black for me
For food, we had the Poutine- which is by far the best poutine I've ever had in the States. The cheese curds were real cheese curds, just like I love from Wisconsin, not the crumbly curds I've often seen on poutine. And the fries and gravy were delish as well. Cost was cheap, food and drink selection and quality were amazing, service great. Can't go wrong here!
I was in the bar/pub area in the back so I can't speak about how the restaurant is, but certainly enjoyed the bar.
They advertise they have the largest tap selection in Vermont and I can say I haven't found a place with more taps yet. They had a mix of macro, micro and local beers available so pretty much anyone can find something they like. The prices were also pretty cheap which was a nice touch. They also offered a beer sampler option, but only included the local Vermont beers.
The bar area had a good amount of stools at the bar, some high top tables, a couch, bar rail and a pool table. So there are plenty of places to enjoy a beer. They also have a slew of TVs setup with all the usual sporting events available and even play the sound from the game. So this is definitely a good place to watch a game.
The food selection was also pretty good. They had a lot of interesting options for the appetizers. I especially enjoyed the poutine. They used real cheese curds and a good amount of gravy. Its a very good unhealthy bar snack.
The staff were friendly and did a good job serving people even when its very busy. A very good place to enjoy a beer and appetizer.
Best bar in Waterbury!!!
Great bar food. Friendly bartenders. Lots of TV's with every NFL game. Popcorn machine, pool table, video games, good tunes.
This is really the perfect place to unwind and grab a beer (or five) and a bite after work. Also, 37 beers on tap!!!!!!!!!!!! :) Easily the best beer selection in all of Vermont.
Front room is a bit more of an upscale restaurant with a diverse and very good menu.
If you leave at night and drive south on Rt. 100 be careful as a Waterbury cop is ALWAYS sitting around the Waterbury Service Center waiting to give you a speeding ticket.
I've eaten here twice and both times were home runs. Â The first time I had a burger and fries. Â They were perfect. Â The table shared an order of cheese fries with truffle oil. Â Those were incredible.
The second time I had a chipotle chicken sandwich. Â Now, I typically think the chicken sandwich on a menu is boring and safe. Â Not here. Â They served a freshly hand breaded, fried-to-order HUGE chicken breast on a bun with cheese and chipotle sauce with fries as a side. Â I was blown away! Â The sandwich was fresh, juicy and full of flavor. Â I will be going back and getting another one.
The beer selection is second only to Three Penny Taproom in Montpelier in the area. Â They have a dining room and a bar area so you can either go to watch a game or have a sit down dinner.
I came here expecting Sunday brunch only to be disappointed by the fact that they had changed their menu earlier this week and took it out completely. Lunch options were limited to burgers and sandwiches, all of which are priced around $10. I tried the wild game burger, which featured venison today. The patty was sizable and relatively moist for venison. It didn't taste too gamey and I liked the toasted bun that it came with. The fries were a bit over salted. I also tried the fried Atlantic haddock fish tacos, which were new on their menu. It was surprisingly good for tacos in New England; it is a better deal if you add on an extra taco for $3 more. The Reservoir has an atmosphere more fitting for a bar so I can see why brunch was eliminated, but it would be a great attraction for Sunday mornings to draw additional patrons to an empty restaurant.
Review Source:We ate here after a very tundra-like snowboarding day at Stowe and sadly it was just OK. Â The chili didn't melt away our hunger, the burgers didn't foodgasm anywhere, and the wings didn't rock our socks - the food was OK in comparison to all the "OMG" places we've tried in Stowe.
The Reservoir is your regular pub fare... no extra sprinkles on top. Â Perhaps we should have tried The Alchemist which was a few doors down. Â Oh wells, next time!
We ate here after my daughter's hockey game at the Waterbury Rink. Â We were looking for a place that was comfortable, had good local food, good ambiance, not loud, and not so crowded we'd have to wait for a table, had food my kids would eat, and good beers. The Reservoir fit the bill perfectly.
I had a turkey burger that was super tasty albeit v. large. The onion was sliced pefectly thin. Â Kids choices were acceptable. Â Hubby's chili was great. Portions are large. Â My fries were perfect. My kids fries looked and tasted like they had an extra "refresh" dip in the fryer.
Oh, the waitress was great. Spunky and friendly. Helpful. And she looked my kids in the eye. That's always a good sign.
I liked that the "restaurant" was separate from the bar side, esp given that I came w/my kids.
We'll definitely be back.
My friends and I were headed to The Alchemist for lunch when we realized that they opened at 3. Not knowing where else to go, we came upon The Reservoir which was a last minute choice. It was quite empty for a Friday afternoon but we were able to sit on the patio.
We started off with the Vermont Maple Sweet Potato Fries. I really enjoyed the fries. Thickly cut and you could taste the potato, which is key. The maple sugar gave it an additional kick of sweetness which I thought was a nice touch. I was tempted to get the Truck Driver burger but realized I didn't have the stomach for a 1lb burger that day. I decided to go "wild" and asked what the game burger of the day was. It was elk and of course I had to get it. I asked for medium and it came out close to well done. Not a problem for me. The meat was tasty, lean and slightly gamey. I am very proud to say I had an elk burger. :)
My friends enjoyed their lunches which included a beet salad that my friend liked a lot, a burrito, and a byob. I didn't have any beer because I'm not a fan of it but my friend got the blackberry beer. It was pretty good from what I sampled.
The hostess/server was friendly as well as our waiter. He came around and checked in when necessary. The prices were decent and overall, I had a good lunch there. If I were to go back, I would definitely give this restaurant another visit.
You don't have too many options of bars in this area of town, but The Reservoir has pretty cheap prices, live bands every now and then it seems, and flat screen tvs...
So ya, it is a pretty typical bar, nothing special here, but the live band, although there were not too many people watching the band, were okay. And we had enough of their strong drinks in our system that we were dancing like no one was watching if you know what i mean!! Plus they actually carried a pumpkin beer that tasted like pumpkin!! Nothing like a good pumpkin beer when you take a trip up to Vermont to find your newly found passion for fall!!
There were a couple of older people here too, and you could tell that they were friends with the bar tenders and were definitely regulars here, then again there are not too many bars to choose from in this area, so I would probably be a regular too! And they run their heater freely here. It is COLD in Vermont, so on top of their strong drinks, their heater is always running too! We didn't get a chance to try any of their food, but I gotta say for a bar menu, some of the things on that menu since I stole one to glance at while I was dancing around, looked pretty good!
I've now been here three times and I can say that it has become one of my favorites in the Waterbury area.   Wings are top-notch as far as I'm concerned  - I've only had the Terriyaki style wings.  The french fries are as good as any I've had around here and the french fries in this region of Vermont are the best I've had anywhere. Â
They have a "hummus of the day" and if you ever happen to be there when they have the chipotle-lime hummus, order it, and give me a call. Â I'll be there as quick as I can. Â It is the best hummus EVER.
We went this morning for brunch, and we got a hearty, delcious breakfast. Â The sausage and bacon are locally made, and are paired with local eggs and bread. Â Each breakfast comes with plenty of toast and fresh fruit. Â
Good food, good beer, a bunch of big TVs for watching the game on. Â Well worth a stop when in the Waterbury area.
The atmosphere and the beer selection are the two good points that would make me want to give them a better rating. But their food was so meh. I hear it's better than when it was WW--that makes me glad I never ate there then. We ordered 3 appetizers: maple sweet potato fries, the beet salad and the bean dip. The bean dip was barely warm and so thick, it was really unappetizing. The fries looked factory-made and tasted like fake maple flavoring. The salad was delicious--candied walnuts (or pecans?) were a nice touch.
In terms of entrees, there were 7 of us dining that night. The 3 of us who ordered the burrito fared the best. It was delicious, though not authentic. The chicken sandwich looked fine. My husband said his burger was one of the worst he's had in the state and the fish tacos looked like a cat threw up on the plate. My friend who ordered them didn't even finish one of them. Someone ordered the Thai-flavored veggie burger--she said the flavor was great but there was no texture. And when she asked for a side of the peanut sauce that came with it, it looked like she received a big ramekin full of straight-up peanut butter it was so thick.
But the atmosphere is great, the beer selection stellar, and it has a patio, which is fabulous. We went again this past weekend for drinks and live music and the vibe was great. I'd go back again, but the food really needs some help!
