A nice little chill bar with great customer service!

What type of bar makes you wait in a single file line to close out your tab? I don't know if this is some Washington thing or what but its a complete disservice to the customers and the business to have a huge line to order your drinks. Management needs to take a serious look at how they deal with serving a crowded bar because in the end a busy bar is a good problem to have. The only reason why I'm even giving this place more than one star is because of the popcorn and pool tables. I doubt I'll ever be in Pullman again, but if I am, I can assure you that I will not be seen in that line.

The food is typical bad bar food. The staff kind of sucks. The drinks are overpriced. Sophisticated? It's a bar that's not on campus.

An awesome place to have a relaxed drink with a friend. This isn't your typical college town bar/pub. I went one night and there were students studying there while enjoying a glass of wine and meeting with friends. The atmosphere is super cool and almost reminds me of a scene from Harry Potter.

They have a large selection of drinks and some really cool furniture.

While we might have been here during the winter break, this place was still really awesome. I love the old library feel as well as the awesome 75 cent popcorn! Of course onion rings are the best and the chicken strips....

The mixed drinks are well priced--honestly, try being a college student on the Eastside, then come talk to me about expensive cocktails. Lots of choices for beer-and they do have a happy hour where they knock down their pints to 3.50.

Its a great place. Go! If you are in the area...

Favorite place to get a drink in pullman. The atmosphere is great and right up my alley. Just so cool and laid back. The music on the weekends is nice but i love it even more during the week when it's quieter. Pool tables on the upper floor are nice and well maintained. Staff is always friendly. I didn't notice if the drinks were overpriced but i wasn't really paying attention, although i can say that they made me the best Manhattan i've had on the palouse. Can't say enough good things about Rico's.

Love this place! It's the place for the sophisticates.

Yes, the drinks are overpriced, but they are the best in town (as far as mixed drinks go, in my opinion). Also, they come around to check on you which is worth something when the place is super crowded and you don't want to get up. The live music is what really keeps me coming back. It can get a little loud, but you will hear some truly amazing musicians (especially on the weekends). AND there's no cover.

They make some decent food too. Try the deep fried oreos-- they're to-die-for (literally, perhaps). I also recommend the Jolly Rancher.

I feel like I'm a poser hipster whenever I go to this bar.

If you're a grad student, this is a nice hangout,  and it's SO much better than going to the typical college bars.

One downside, if you want to call it that, is when they have bands. I don't mind the bands so much, but I feel like it's completely unnecessary to have everyone mic-ed up. The noise level gets ridiculous, and you can't have a conversation with someone without yelling or resorting to sign language.

p.s They have some friggen good onion rings as well!

A great spot to go to when you want to go where everybody knows your name

Rico's is the best bar in town, plain and simple.  The drinks are great and the staff very knowledgeable (I ordered an old fashioned and the bartender didn't even have to look up the ingredients!  I guarantee if I ordered it at any other bar in Pullman, specifically greek row, the bartenders wouldn't know what the hell I was talking about).  Anyways, the place has a great English pub feel and is very aesthetically pleasing, lots of character.

I don't know what happened but the last few times I've been to Rico's the bartenders have been incredibly rude. I mean really rude. Like I'm not tipping rude. I think they've changed managment or owners or something. Not cool!

I love their Hot buttered rum in the winter. And the atmosphere is really cool as well.

I love this place. It's a real honest-to-goodness sort of pub (not a bar). Lots of quality beer on tap, good mixed drinks, an assortment of hot sandwiches and fried food on the menu.

I've never been late on a weekend, so I can't speak to the quality of the live music or the dance floor, but I really don't think of Rico's as a dancing sort of place. It's where I go with friends on a Sunday afternoon to hang out and drink Guinness. It's where I hunkered down in a booth to rough out my thesis with pen and paper (laptop wouldn't have worked, since there aren't many outlets).

I always get the French Dip. The fries are good, too.

This is a pretty neat little place with great atmosphere. I had champagne (yes I know not a pub drink) but it was very tasty. My husband and I also had the chicken finger basket (yum!) and taquitos (also delish). The mango salsa I had was super yummy as well. Service was also good, we were attended to quite frequently. We'll definitely go back here.

Going to this pub made me feel like I was back in England. It is a jazzy little place where you can go for a nice drink and enjoy live local music. I definitely recommend it to anyone because it is definitely worth the experience!

    Sometimes you want to go
    Where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came.

Yes, I might be dating myself making a Cheers reference here but if ever there was a bar that felt like the Cheers bar for me, it's Rico's.  The servers are all friendly, even when things get busy on weekends.  The atmosphere is great, all kinds of interesting paraphanalia on the walls and bookshelves everywhere.  Like a lot of other reviews have mentioned, a lot of graduate students and professors like Rico's but this place is also popular with locals who have lived in Pullman all their lives. Most weekends they have a live band down in the back.  Usually jazz, but I've also heard some big-band swing and mellow rock music too.

When the band it playing there's space on the floor for a tiny dance area and occasionally some enterprising folk get a little bit of a dance floor going but it's rare.  On the second floor are a few pool tables and some pinball machines (one of which was the Simpsons, last time I checked).

This is my favorite bar in Pullman because it actually feels like an English pub (hence the name!). I love that they have books on the shelves and serve typical pub food as well. I always got the fish 'n' chips if I showed up before midnight. It is a little pricey, compared to some of the frat boy bars up on the hill, but that's part of the reason I like it -- it's not a frat boy bar. Unless they're playing jazz really loudly (which happens), it's a great place to actually talk to your friends, rather than screaming in their ears that you're going outside or heading to another bar. You could theoretically meet here to discuss class projects as well on a weeknight -- at least that's what I've heard......

BRING BACK THE BEER CHEESE SOUP! This has caused a lot of alarm and dismay in my group of 20+ friends.
Sure, I'm an oldie (I remember when Rico's didn't sell Hard A) but a goodie! We graduated almost 10 years ago but still visit at least once a year for shenanigans/ruckus/tomfoolery.
I'm glad the decor/ambiance is still the same

Best bar in Pullman if.... you are a grad student, and i was for 6 years up there. Not sure if it's still the case, but they were the only game in town for good beer. I wonder if Roger still owns it? Haven't been there for 12 years... I spent a fair time at the Cavern, but if I wanted to feel like I was not in Cougland for a while, Rico's was it.

Rico's is definitely my favorite bar in Pullman. Boasting a history almost as long as WSU's, it retains a certain old-fashioned charm.  Dark wood details, books stacked to the ceiling and comfy chairs tucked into the corner help give it a warm and welcoming atmosphere!
The live jazz is great; the bands play on Fridays and Saturdays, starting at around 9:30. Some of the players are music professors or grad students, and all appear to thoroughly enjoy playing music and entertaining the audience.
Drink prices can be a bit stiff for a college student (think $5 for a pint) but are worth it. They have excellent beers on tap and one awesome hard cider, and also offer a range of mixed drinks including several warm ones made with coffee.
This is definitely an awesome chill-out sort of spot to hang with friends and talk or just enjoy the music! Get there early, though...Rico's is popular, and you'll want a seat. :)

Okay, I admit it - I was major square in college.
(The fact that I still am is besides the point!)

That being said, after I turned 21, this was the only real bar that I ever really frequented, as the scene was much more my pace than any other I encountered.  I am not a party person, and I'd rather have a chilled out, intimate conversation than dance with strangers...I know, crazy, right?

The atmosphere was almost cinematic, in that it felt like you really were not in Pullman anymore...hard to describe, but worth with me here...wall to wall bookshelves, heavy wooden furniture...billiards...and popcorn.  Yes, the popcorn was really good here...as well as the fries.  Mmmm!

If you like jazz, you'll like Rico's.

If you're not a fan of jazz, Rico's is tolerable.

I'm still pissed they did away with their Beer Cheese Soup. Boo.

You will be greatly disappointed if you visit this bar without having a pitcher of beer cider. Try not to drink it all by yourself because once you have a taste you will be tempted.

This bar is a great laid back place and a great back from the typical college bars on Greek Row. It does have an old library feel (which I like) and they do feature live music here on the weekends.

Come here if you like to actually talk to your friends and have a chill night.

What a great pub; a classic in this university town.  I've visited Pullman twice on account of my sick doggy that required surgery at the (mad props) world-class vet med school surgical center and am enchanted everytime I visit Pullman.  Rico's is awesome--great staff, really friendly.  Food is standard pub fare but really--this is a great place to chill out with a pint and meet new peeps.  I can't really say enough about the atmosphere and super friendly staff here.  I'll be back.

Where has this place been all my life?  Excellent public house. You can actually have a conversation over a good pint in cozy chairs. The rueben sandwich beat out anything I've had lately (sorry South Fork but you got served). Really nice atmosphere, excellent arrangment, and levels (kramer would be proud). It's everything I ever dreamed of in a pub, minus a fiddle and flute.

God I miss this place.  It was my home away from home during my first round in Pullman, and when I returned a few years later for grad school the same was true.  Pullman bars aren't for the faint at heart, and this one certainly has its quirks.  But instead of thumping music and unappealing personalities, this one's quirks are the types of which I approve: live jazz music, dark brick walls, bookshelves covered in ancient books no one wishes to read.

Good beer, good food, and good people.  It's a place you'd feel just as comfortable tossing down a brew with your professor as you would with your closest friends.  And it's a place I went several times to study semi-privately before the sky went dark.  My last visit was 2006, and I still miss ordering a basket of fries with BBQ sauce to accompany a pitcher of Mac & Jacs and share with a group of friends.

There are places in life you will never forget. For me, Ricos is one of those spots.

The food is expensive for a bar in Pullman, as are the drinks.  It is crowded and loud at times.

However, they do have a great variety of beers on tap, their coffee and liquor drinks are great, and their food is tasty.

However, they don't know how to many some basic mixed drinks.  No bartender should have to look at a recipe to make a Long Island Iced Tea.

The atmosphere is nice, it sort of looks like an old fashioned library.

As a grad student I can't afford to go there often, but it is a good place to go once in a while.

Loved it! Loved the feel of the place and the delicious beers on tap. After my bad dining experience in Pullman, I gave up on food and decided to fill up on beer instead. Bad idea, but lucky for me, Rico's serves food. After two pints, my smallish frame and empty stomach could no longer keep my mouth quiet, so the hubby suggested that I order some food. The halibut and chips were quite tasty. The bar staff was friendly and entertaining. I will be back!

Rico's is situated in the liveliest section of downtown Pullman. It is sandwiched by the espresso cafes "Cafe Moro" and "Daily Grind". The location is good, needless to say.

Out in front is a quaint patio that, during the summer months, is ornamented with flowers. The interior of Rico's is one of its most notable traits. Adorned with dark wood, cozy lighting, and books, the aesthetics appeal to just about everyone. On a cold winter night, entering Rico's can feel a bit like a good hug.

Food, liquor, wine, and beer are served here. The price of a pint of beer is spendy for the average college student, but when the experience is figured into the price, it seems to be worth it. The food that I have tried has been mostly decent. I stick with the Reuben, which has good flavor and is made with high-quality ingredients.

Go here to stay awhile and relax with a drink.

I was in Pullman last March checking out the graduate program and I was taken to Rico's.  I was told that it was a great place for grad students and professors to go since undergrads do not tend to hang out there.

I loved it as soon as I stepped in!  It has an 'old man' bar kind of feel that I adore.  There is a gigantic bookshelf filled with real books, not fakes.  The jazz band that was playing was great.  They have a pinball machine upstairs which is a plus for me. I decided to attend WSU, so I have a feeling that my ass will be seated on a stool at Rico's for the next several years.

OK so as a 23 year old college student I find myself at bars once in a while. The most common bar that I visit is Rico's. It is a great place to escape from the Greeks and listen to good jazz music or to relax and actually TALK with friends! Wow talking in a bar? Not screaming? Yeah that is what it is like to go here. If you like a loud bar with annoying people and overpriced drinks Rico's is not the place for you. So a tip of the hat from myself and my friends as our number one hang out spot in Pullman, WA.

It's rare to find a bar like Rico's, especially in a town like Pullman.  Amidst the sports bars and clubs lies Rico's.  If you're looking for a place to just go hangout and get away from the bar scene, look no further.

    The drinks:
Rico's always has a large and ever changing selection of beer.  You can always find something new, something old and something you'll love.  Or if you are not into beer, they have wine and good selection of cocktails to choose from.

    The food:
If it is late in the evening they still have fried foods such as chicken strips, fries, onion rings and others.  If you get there before the late night they have multiple sandwiches to choose from.  Even if it is lunch time, Rico's is a good place to grab some delicious food and put back and tasty drink.  Too cheap for food?  They always have a basket of popcorn for 75 cents.

    The atmosphere:
This is definitely a place where you can meet up with some friends and just have a relaxing evening and share some good conversation.  The main area is very accommodating to groups and further back is a downstairs area where live music plays and a lot more tables.  The live music consists usually of local jazz and hosts an open mic night.  If you're in the mood for some pool there are three tables upstairs.  The crowd is a mix of college students, professors and locals.  There is always something happening at Rico's. The service is always great, I've never had a problem with any of the bartenders.  They are all nice people.

One interesting aspect of Rico's is that they have a huge bookcase filled with various books that you can read as you please.  I remember one night a friend of mine took down one of the poetry collections and proceeded to read poetry out loud for a better part of the evening.  Only at Rico's could you do something like that.

I'll always have fond memories of this place whether it be watching some good music, shooting pool and just hanging out with my friends and drinking beer that is something other than cheap domestics.  I hope Rico's remains in Pullman for another hundred years.

A very class joint, established in 1909. A lot of character, dark wood tables and chairs, 3 smallish pool tables and 2 pinball machines upstairs, and a downstairs area that houses their music performers. Quite frequently you'll find some live jazz by local residents as well as WSU faculty/students. Overall, it's the best bar in the Pullman/Moscow area if the college sports-bar isn't your thing. Their beer selection isn't the greatest, but it's decent. The food is decent, nothing more, but their popcorn is the BEST in town.

This is the kind of bar you could take your laptop and homework to study with, and get away with it. Free wi-fi.

No longer a smoking bar since Washington State passed the no indoor smoking law - inside is very clean now. It's just about the only bar in the area I will frequent.
