In town for a weekend of fishing and a buddy brought me here. It is a very laid back and casual place. Awesome food and large servings. Chicken Friend Chicken was not on the menu but seeing chicken fried steak I asked for it and they agreed. It was one of the largest chicken breasts I have ever been served and the flavor was Awesome! Very cold beer and nice waitstaff that was more than helpful. I will defiantly go back.

Great Seafood was fresh and my sons pattie melt was outstanding. Was a wait for my food but you knew it was not prepared ahead of time. Will be back for the Crab Rolls.

The food is always fresh and the serving sizes generous.  The atmosphere is divey, perfect for the locals who just got done fishing that day  or those rich snobs visiting from the cities of Texas.  If you are lucky while you eat you can look across the river and catch the local wild life ( animals) playing or rooting for food.

Cool Place, right on the river. With the added bonus of an occasional alligator and wild pig siting. The food is ok, and ok-er if you love everything fried, unfortunately shrimp and matagordo oysters were out of season and had to substitute frozen specimens for the fresh.

The staff is courteous and prompt. They have a bar but only beer and wine are served, meaning wine based cocktails and margaritas. But still a pleasant stop after a day fishing in the surf.

The worst food and service with the best location. The food was slow to come them cold.  The waitress knew she was serving cold food and was indignant about it.  We are in matagorda from time to time and wont be stopping here again

Good place to get drunk but food and service suck and management don't give a shit!

This is one of those places that makes a perfect respite from the salt & sun after a long day on the beach or boat. The AC and beer are ice cold, the people are friendly and laid-back, and no one is in much of a hurry to do anything -- and that's just fine by us.

The decor is part fish-shack, part beer joint, with 3 pool tables, a couple of shooter video games, a Ms. Pacman, and shuffle board.  There's a pretty good variety of selections on the juke box, but unfortunately, it was out of order during our visit.

We especially liked the Cajun-influenced menu and the river view. The "I think I wanna basket" basket was deep-fried nom-nom-iness. My blonde etouffee was pretty good and Hubby swore that the chicken-fried steak sandwich was the best thing he ever ate between two pieces of Texas toast, but that may have been the sun and Miller Lite talking.

I have not had good fried seafood in a long time. Fresh fried seafood.  The crabstuffed japs were the top of the chart. They do the po boys just right, soft bread, awesome tarter. It's all from scratch, so there is a wait, but with good company, friendly staff, and ice cold beer, it was worth it. This will be one of our stops at least once when we are down this way again.

When staying in Matagorda or just cruising through for a day on the water, you'll find that options are few. This is pretty much the only show in town across the intracoastal waterway.

Right on the Colorado river just a few short miles from the Gulf, this place specializes in good, simple food and cold beer. Inside it has the feeling of an ice house, but it's actually very family oriented. On a nice afternoon you can also have one of those "only in Texas" moments as you enjoy your shrimp basket and a cold beer on the back patio. From this vantage point you can watch fishermen slowly troll by the occasionally huge gathering of feral hogs on the far bank. Here someone took the time to clear some of the brush and setup feeders to attract these cute menaces.

The burgers and seafood baskets are actually very good and pretty cheap. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and it's the only thing close. It's a captive market, but they make you happy with the choice you have. And for those in search of your slice of heaven, it's for sale!
