  Just about every visit I make to Hohenwald results in a visit to the River Rat. They are great if you are just stopping in for a beer, or plan to sit down and have dinner.  They are one of the few places in town that serve beer with dinner, and in my opinion, the best place. And the only spot in town with Yuengling on tap!
  
  The appetizers are all great, but I gotta go with the fried green beans or cheddar peppers. The wings are fantastic, and I always get an order when I stop by. They offer both waffle fries and steak fries on their menu, but go with the waffle fries - delicious!
  
  The main entrees are also pretty tasty. My favorites are the baked cod and the ribs, but I hear they've got a good burger as well. However, the sides are certainly lacking inspiration. The vegetables are bland and mushy. I'm not sure they even add the basics such as salt and pepper. The mashed potatoes are also bland, but at least they are real potatoes.  Don't get the white beans - no bueno.
  
  If you're into Buzztime trivia, they've got it! The place has plenty of wide screens to play trivia or watch the big game. They've also got pool tables, and often have live bands playing.
  
  Don't be off-put by the store front or interior atmosphere. It looks a little dive-y, but the place is on the level. It's even family friendly before 9 (when they start busting out the loud music).
  
  And what review about the River Rat would be complete without mention of their rockin' staff? This place has the best and most friendly servers in town. They always make my visit. The owners are both great, and chances are you'll meet them. Steve always makes his rounds to visit with his guests.  If you're passing through Hohenwald, don't miss the River Rat!

  Seriously the best food in Hohenwald and Linden! This place does not have the best atmosphere, but the food and service are always enjoyable. Before 9 (when they stop serving food anyway), it is way more family friendly then one might think. It really is the only acceptable place in Hohenwald where you can sit and have a nice meal and some beer. They are the only place in town that offer trivia (buzztime, countdown, etc.). They sometimes have karaoke and live bands. They have a.... how do I put this... colorful, but likeable DJ on Friday nights. They have AWESOME wings, good ribs, and try the baked cod. They also have great cheddar peppers. Their veggies aren't the best, so I would go for a salad (ceasar is really yummy) or mac n' cheese for your sides (mac 'n' cheese is homemade as far as I know). The veggies are just a little bland and too soft for my taste. The fried green beans are yummy. The owners, Steve and Barb, are very friendly and often make sure to say hi. Hohenwald does not have liquor, but the River Rat has Yuengling on tap, which is hard to find in small towns. The food is actually quite lovely and consistent, and they have vegetarian options. Wing night is 50 cent wings Monday 7-9. Ladies night is Friday 10-12. Good deal! ;)
