My wife had a business meeting at Alderbrook Resort, so after a marginal lunch there we decided to take another couple to dinner at Robin Hood. It was outstanding!

We sampled the lemon drop shrimp as an appetizer, and it was as good as everyone has mentioned.  All our entrees were delicious: sturgeon, salmon, pad Thai, and pheasant.

    Would definitely return!

A great place to relax and unwind during our girl's weekend at Alderbrook. Lemon drop prawns were amazing, and the calamari and fried oysters were fresh and light. The owner spent a lot of time discussing wine selections and helped us pick the perfect bottle (or two). More than one gluten free option on the menu was a nice surprise for one of our party! We thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Several big parties were there and it didn't affect service at all. We will definitely be back!!

This place is amazing.  Right as you walk in, you feel like you've entered a quaint secret spot, with large windows looking out at a gorgeous garden full of large, old growth trees, making you forget you're even in a restaurant--very Pacific Northwest! The service was great, the wine recommended by our server was perfect (Claret) and the food was so good!  Not only were we thrilled to see so many items that were organic and farm fresh, but they even had gluten free items-I was so excited!  Our server mentioned that they have a new chef--food was so good, wish I could have the chef cook for me at home!  We had a fantastic evening here.  We'll definitely be back!

Things started out great. The patio is very nice. We had the cheese plate which was delicious. My husband had the pork chop and I ordered the Filet Medallions. The pork chop was Ok, but my medallions were subpar. The medallions were so fatty, and did not taste good. I barely touched my beef, and when the server took my plate she never asked if there was a problem. I also never received a soda refill even though my glass was empty half way through dinner. I hate paying 100+ for dinner, and only eating some cheese and potatoes with carrots!

Anniversary Number 2 is in the books and we had dinner at Robin Hood again. This place always seems to impress me! Just as good as the last time!!!!

The elk was amazing, but don't forget to start with the Lemon Drop Prawns!

back again to the good old Robin Hood - wish i could come more often. They have a new chef, a fully organic menu (YAY) and the same great open mic night.

This is the little place i truly wish i had closer to home. Quality ingredients, friendly staff and a nice place to spend your evening. Kudos.

We enjoyed Robin Hood very much for dinner - I had the burger and she had the mushroom encroute. Both were tasty and the burger was medium rare as requested. Morgan was our server - she was very nice and helpful. The coffee creme brûlée was very good as well. We would definitely return!

I had Thanksgiving Dinner with my father here and it was absolutely perfect. I come all the way from Portland to eat here. Having dined here many times, I wanted to try the holiday menu because the food is always divine. I love that they work with local farmers, the produce always seems so fresh and hand-selected.  Just the drive alone is worth the trip, winding around the water with views of epic skies full of bright clouds and  mountain reflections.
When you arrive at Robin Hood there is a cozy fireplace inside the main dining area with great big windows that look out onto a lush  patio/garden area complete with a babbling brook (I once watched salmon jumping just outside the window when the rain brought the water levels up!)
This is a very special place.

So sad - we went there last night excited to try farm to table goodness here in Union, WA.  Unfortunately, that is clearly a marketing ploy.  The spinach salad was clearly derived from a bag, they forgot the avocado and generally the dish appeared tired.  My burger was fine but the 'beer battered shoestring fries' listed on the menu were anything but shoestring and I question the beer batter.  They talk fervently about how they love to host vegetarians and will do anything for them but after the first waiter said "sorry, nothing really but salads" and we had to go to a second waiter to inquire about other potential veggie options, I question that claim.  What did come out for the vegetarian was a plate of quinoa with some grilled veggies - for $22.  My beer was skunky (which they replaced without issue) and the wines were fine.  It's a perfectly serviceable pub with pub fare but their advertising needs to be updated to reflect reality.  The Alderbrook restaurant down the street has far better, more local, and fresher food for about the same price.

Again - the owner/operator never got back to me about my missing jacket.  I am really upset about the lack of customer service.  The place is really nothing special.  It is dark and a bit dusty.  The food was decent - but does not commend the price they are asking.  Not only will I never return - I will tell all my friends to stay away. . . .

This place used to be amazing, when they were partnered with a local organic farm and had an amazing chef. Recently they hired a couple idiots and assholes, fired the chef, ditched the local farm connection, and generally cut every corner in the book to please their bourgeois financial backers and elitist lack of ethics and prudence. Too bad. I really used to love eating at this place, but I don't think I will go back there any time soon. Although the kitchen staff and several bartenders are very kind and good at their jobs, the management is doing everything they can to ruin the place from the top down. No farm fresh vegetables! Overpriced conventional shitty produce, a far cry from the Robin Hood of last summer.

Go to Alderbrook just down the road, a bit more pricey, but at least they know how to treat their local organic farmer and have excellent options and service.

The Good:  Nice looking menu options.  Nice atmosphere (until you talk to someone).  Nice beer selection.

The Mediocre:  The food was reasonable, but nothing to take time to write a review about.

The Bad:  SERVICE WAS HORRIBLE!!!  When the server did bother to stop by, she was rude.  Needed to ask several times for simple things (like a glass for my $15 bottle of beer).

Overall:  Uber-lame - Don't waste your time.  Alderbrook is right across the street.  Go somewhere where the food is great, the service is great, and the scene is great.

Amazing place! Great service and creative food the stuffed summer squash blossoms were amazing.  Sitting out on the patio in the rain forest setting was. Exquisite . Greatnesses micro brews and local wines. "You know who"lives across the street and eats here. And he could eat anywhere in the world. We ate like kings and where treated like royalty by our waiter Mike and the other wonderful waitresses. If I find a place this good I usually dont review it but I think it is imlortant to share once in a while since others have saved the day for us traveling. Get reservations ahead for the garden table when the weather is nice. We are tightwads but thought we really got our moneys worth. Walk the garden paths after dinner and check ojt the cool cottages. Go walk around alder brook across the street where it cost $8 for an english muffin and see how the rich and famous are stimulating the economy. No we do not own the place we do not work there just sharing to make yelp even better. If you find something better post a review here and let us know enjoy! Ask for Tom the wine guy if you want to know about the local wines.

I'm not sure what they put over their scallops, someone mentioned that it was Bavarian Cream but that sounded so ridiculous that I assumed they were kidding, however, they were hands down the BEST scallops I've ever eaten in my life. I've been craving more of them ever since. I WILL be back for  you, my scallopy friends!

I ordered the rib eye. My boyfriend ordered the elk. We shared the spinach salad and a bottle of Malbec wine. I can't tell you how amazed I was at the perfection of each of the dishes, including the wine. I was so impressed at the service as well, I will definitely go back again. Another benefit was that it was only a hop and a skip away from our beautiful cottage in Robin Hood Village. It was a perfect weekend! Thanks for one of my best dinners I've ever had, Robin Hood!

A lovely restaurant tucked away on the Hood Canal, Robin Hood offers it's patrons perfection in both service and food. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The server went over with me all the entree which were gluten free and those which could be altered to be gluten free. The chef is very familiar with celiacs disease and is conscience about what ingredients contain gluten. I had the tapas plate of fish tacos and it was wonderful. Their salads are light and healthy and their wine selection fits wonderfully with their menu. I highly recommend Robin Hood to anyone who wishes to have a dining experience they won't soon forget!

I was here recently for a post rehearsal dinner gathering here and had a blast! Great atmosphere, service, and outdoor patio. I stayed across the street at the Alderbrook and though the food was good, I wish I had eaten here instead.

Amazing service, Fantastic menu, Relaxing and Intimate ambiance, this place gets my ultra rare 5 star rating. The food is above average for the most part, and even if it's not ultra gourmet, the rest of the package offsets any minor flaws.

The best key lime pie ever!  Graham cracker crust with a custard that is just the right consistency served with real whipped cream. Also, the salad I had was very good. They have a nice wine selection. They bring out some yummy bread with olive oil and vinegar and roasted garlic that is delicious.

We have had the pleasure of hosting 3 dinners now at Robin Hood, and this last one was the best ever. We are foodies who fuss about getting it right and Kerry and her crew outdid themselves this time. They served dinner to our group of 26 people without a flaw: family style plates of prawns and stuffed zucchini flowers; two yummy salads; melt in your mouth beef and salmon cooked to perfection . . . I could go on and on. Suffice it to say this restaurant is a gem. We have great restaurants in Seattle, but this little place in Union would hold its own with the best of them.

My husband and I were staying at the Alderbrook Resort last weekend and decided to give Robin Hood Restaurant a try. The restaurant came very highly recommended from a co-worker so I had high expectations going into the meal.... This place delivered and was one of the best meals I have ever had. In my life. Honestly.

The staff was welcoming, gracious, and extremely knowledgeable of the menu. The dining room was quaint and had a huge fireplace that made the room feel very cozy and nearly all the tables had gorgeous views of a lush backyard area (looked like it would be amazing to eat out there in better weather).

    Here is what we had...
Appetizer: Hama Hama Fried Oysters w/Smokey Pepper sauce
Salads (2): Grilled Caesar Salad & Spring Leaf House Salad
Main Course (2): Elk Flank Steak & Venison
Dessert: Chocolate Lava Cake a la mode

The oysters were perfectly fried and we loved the sauce (we almost ordered a second plate they were so good); the grilled Caesar salad was so flavorful (who knew grilling it could bring out so much flavor?!?); the spring leaf house salad had the freshest veggies on it; the elk flank steak was cooked perfectly and came with a mushroom cream sauce that was to die for; the venison was also cooked perfectly sooooo flavorful... amazing!;  and the chocolate cake was the perfect end to an absolutely perfect meal. We couldn't have asked for anything better.

If you are ever in the area or if you are staying at the Alderbrook Hotel (or anywhere else close by) PLEASE make a trip to this restaurant. It was worth every penny and such a memorable meal and experience.   I wish we were in the area longer because we would have gone back the next day!

I came here with expectation. The restaurant website delivered a sincere and quality promise.

Environment: Cute and Charming (Inside and Out)
    Service: Friendly

    Food:
Oyster Shooters $6 for 3 shots
    -Bam! Awesome!
Note: Watch out the kick at the end of the shoot.

    Pan Friend Oysters $12
-It was a waste of Hama Hama oysters. The batter was ... screaming for seasoning. The "smoky pepper créme frache" was just for display because it did not improve or add any value to the oysters. Sad!

    Pan-seared Sea Scallops $22 for 3 scallops
-The scallops looked good on the plate without being over cook. However, there is NO taste! Seriously, nothing at all. The pear fennel jam did not help at all. The roasted sweet potatoes were sitting on a puddle of oil and again tasteless.
Note: Well-prep scallop tasted like the sea no much how expensive it is. I left one scallop on the plate (that's ~$6.67 out of my pocket) along with the oily potatoes cubes. Hope the chef gets the idea.

    Fish and Chips $12
-This is a good dish and fair priced.

Price: Expected Overpriced due to supply and demand in the tourist set up

If I visited again, I will come back to enjoy the Tapas and Appetizers with a good beer.

    Tip:
    Appetizer Pan Fired Oyster $12
Entree Hama Hama Fried Oysters $18
-If you still want to try the fried oysters, the different of $6 is the sides only. You do the math.

The husband and I stopped by here on our last weekend adventure.  Overall, I was pretty pleased with my experience here.  The service was impeccable and the food was delicious.  The decor is perfect and I think it could have a very romantic feel.

We started the meal with their bread and olive oil and vinegar dip.  The bread was warm and fabulous.  The dip was the perfect blend of oil and balsamic.

I ordered the Pear and Gorgonzola Stromboli.  Overall it was pretty delicious.  It was a bit on the sweet side.  I would have liked to be able to taste the Gorgonzola more than the mozzarella in it.  A bit more of the port reduction on the top would have been good also, but only because it was so delicious.

The hubby ordered the Elk Flank Steak.  I think both of us expected it to come as a steak, but it was sliced into strips, which made it even better.  The plate was delicious. I must admit I was a bit jealous that he got to order it and I didn't.  Next time, I will be getting this and I suggest it as a dish to just about anyone who comes here.  The sauce was great and complimented the meat perfectly.

I definitely would like to check this place out again.  It's a bit out of the way, but it's worth the drive.  Next time, I hope to check it out on a sunny & warm sunny day, rather than the dreary April evening we came to.

My husband and I went for dinner here. We arrived at 7pm, and most of their entrees were "sold" for the night, so we settled on bar food. He got the Robin Hood burger, which was huge, and the meat was cooked to perfection, but the actual burger was not amazing. I got the fish & chips, and I've had better. Bland. We also got the Oyster shooters tapas, which were pretty reasonable in price and delicious. The ambience of the restaurant was nice, although we were seated near the window and there was a considerable draft!

We were on vacation on the Olympic Peninsula this past week and wanted to find a great place to have dinner to celebrate the first wedding anniversary of our daughter and son-in-law.  We chose Robin Hood based upon Yelp ratings that our son-in-law found on the internet.  We had had an early lunch so we arrived very early, about 4:30 pm, and were seated by our server, Peggy.  She was warm and friendly and even took a picture of our group by the fireplace (as we were the only ones in the place for a short time).  Peggy made us feel very comfortable and attended to our every need.

The food was amazing.  I had the grilled salmon with a cherry and chunky tomato relish.  It was wonderful. My wife had the panko crusted fish and chips and sweet potato fries which she loved also.  Our daughter had the pear and gorgonzola stromboli which she shared with us so I can attest to how great is was.  Our son-in-law had the venison shepherd's pie which he found very tasty too.  I had a glass of a Cabernet that is made locally that I found exceptional--from Nanstad Winery over by Grapeview--hints of chocolate and raspberry in it.

This meal at Robin Hood will be remembered for a long time, partly because of the event that brought us there but also because the food and service at Robin Hood made it a memorable night.  We will be back if we are fortunate enough to be in the area again.

We had a nice meal after hiking up to Murhut Falls (Duckabush). It was cheaper for our family than the restaurant at the Alderbrook. They have kid meals for younger kids, but my tweens ate off the adult menu.
My fried HamaHama oysters were fantastic. They came with a well flavored vegetable medly. My family had burgers and a chicken salad. The burgers were undercooked for medium-well, but that's an easy fix.
The beer selection was better than average.
The place is rustic and comfortable. Lots of kids. The wait staff were good for the off-season team.

Spending my summer months as a child on Hood Canal, and then as an adult when my mother owned a home there, we have been to Robin Hood many, many times over the years. When my father passed we had a memorial plaque installed on the property.  Less so the last 10 years, since our mother passed. Ownership has changed during that time. The new owners have been there I think, for the past several years. Tonight for my DH's b.day we decided to come here.  The last time was a few years ago, but I wasn't a yelper then.  We arrived just after they opened at 4 p.m., we wanted to have dinner in the pub side.  Our server Cody was very attentive and helpful the entire time. He's also a musican with the local band Sideways Reign out of Union, Wa. On our last visit we remembered him as he sang between waiting tables and we had fond memories of this.  We started with the lemon drop prawns (had them before and had to have them again), they are to die for. I don't know how they make their lemon sauce but it is 5 star food, I could eat these until I exploded. For our entree, my DH had the pancetta prawn tagliatelle pasta (yes more prawns), the cream sauce was heavenly as was the pasta that it covered.  I had the appetizer of halibut cheeks in a creamy mushroom sauce and their farm fresh side salad. They get their fresh garden greens from a local farmer and you could taste it in every bite.  The salad had fresh blueberries and strawberries with ground hazelnuts and tossed in a champagne vinaigrette, one of the best salads I've had in a restuarant.  Our meal also came with the most wonderful fresh bread (like slipper bread) with roasted garlic floating in balsamic and oil that was yummy, yummy, yummy.  The service was spot on combined with the food that was made with care and creativity definately a destination spot for a special meal or just to treat yourself to wonderful food.

I hadn't been to Robin Hood since my early 20's. When a girlfriend from out of town came to visit, we decided to give it a shot. It's really only a ten minutes from Shelton, and the drive is lovely.

Upon walking in, we were warmly greeted- the waitstaff is exceptional. From waiting for you to be seated before handing you the menu, to the presentation of the wine- they are professional and welcoming.

We decided to share several tapas, our favorite was a special that night, the stuffed figs. What a great combination of fig, blue cheese and bacon. I was a little leery as I'd never tried figs before, but it was amazing. My favorite bottle of Petite Syrah was only $22- bargain priced! The only thing that was a bit of a let down was the Ahi plate. It wasn't horrible, just bland.

We finished off the night by sharing the key lime pie, recommended my many prior reviews, and we were just as impressed. What a lovely place, location, waitstaff & food. I can't wait to return- it was hard for us to not return the following evening.

At first glance, we were unsure about Robin Hood -- the quaint cottage-like restaurant looked like it might be... whimsical.

Inside we were relieved to find a fireplace and a dozen tables under dim lighting -- no whimsy in sight!

The wine list was surprisingly good for a small establishment -- primarily domestic reds and whites, but there were some great offerings in there and quite a few were offered by-the-glass. I was distracted by their beer selection, though, with a good selection of unique German imports (no Spaten!) and great tasting notes -- I settled on a Schlenkerla Rauchbier. Fantastic stuff.

My wife and I shared the following --

Lemondrop prawns: six prawns butterflied and glazed in a sauce that was tart, sweet, creamy but not overpowering and not cloyingly sweet. Chef hit a delicate balance here, as the meaty flavor of the prawns was still primary on the palate.

Bread: warm slices of ciabatta served with roasted garlic cloves, olive oil, and balsamic. The garlic was sweet and mild -- we didn't leave any behind.

Nutty spinach salad: spinach was tender and flavorful, accompanied by avocado, almond slivers, red onion, and a light but powerful sprinkling of coarse mustard. The vinaigrette was sweet and stayed nicely in the background behind the greens, but the occasional bite of mustard was overpowering.

Entree special: artichoke hollowed out and filled with king crab, served with lemon creme fraiche, fresh vegetables, and risotto. This was a delight to eat -- the crab filling was rich and creamy, the artichoke leaves were tender and flavorful, and the artichoke heart was still present in the bottom. Peeling + eating the rest of the leaves off the artichoke was a fun interactive dinner for my wife and I.

The vegetables (julienned string beans, onions and red peppers) were crisp, bright, and surprisingly flavorful. The risotto was intriguing -- moist, rich, great texture and mouthfeel, and with a distinct beer flavor! I'm not sure how the chef managed to pull this off but it tasted great.

Around this time we got to chatting with the owner, Kerry. She had a bunch of interesting tidbits for us -- the property itself was built in the 1930s and is owned by the Nordstrom family. Kerry is a big proponent of eating local and said she tries to show people that "organic isn't a cult" -- she coordinates with nearby High Water Farms to source fresh vegetables for the restaurant. The chef also does blown glass artwork that you'll see around the entry area.

Dessert time!  Our server noted that both the creme brulee and the key lime pie are made specially by the chef.  We had --

Key lime pie: tart enough to make you pucker, but without overwhelming your palate. Great texture -- firm but yielding to the fork, thick without being overly dense. Graham cracker crust was dense with an intriguing crystalline texture -- when chewed, it broke into sugary granules that lingered on my tongue.  Was served with soft, foamy whipped cream on the side.

Chocolate lava cake: rich dark chocolate flavor, light and fluffy with a gooey + hot center. The ice cream stole the show, though -- Olympic Mountain Ice Cream's Madagascar Vanilla flavor was smooth, creamy, without any cloyingly-sweet flavor (unsure whether it was actually corn syrup-free, through).  What got us was the smoky vanilla bean flavor it left at the back of the palate -- very different from other vanilla ice cream flavors.

I chased this with a cappuccino -- their espresso was smooth, no hint of bitterness. Cinnamon dusted on the foam added a nice nose to my coffee.

Our server (Lainie) was attentive and charming in an honest, down-to-earth way -- the waitstaff seemed to genuinely enjoy working there and loved the food. So refreshing after being waited on by service industry professionals! Lainie had no trouble answering my questions about the chef or about his dishes. Another server (from the pub?) stopped by to compliment me on choosing the Rauchbier and we chatted for a while about their beer selection.

Overall -- we were extremely impressed. The chef operates at a level of craftsmanship that was evident in his dishes... it was great to see a menu that wasn't driven by marketing (must have scallops, must have crab cakes, must have a chicken dish, etc).

Our only regret was that they aren't open for lunch, so we couldn't stop by on our way back to the Bremerton ferry!  Worth the drive if you're coming from Seattle.

I'm sorry to say the quality of the food went down while the price went up substantially after the new owner took over.... Knowing how good the moderately priced foods there used to be it's hard for me to justify spending that kind of money ($30 - $50 a plate) on an OK trying-to-be gourmet food. I would give the setting and outdoor patio 5 stars though. I will go back to the cabin and the bar but won't be eating at the restaurant again. I miss the former owners! Does anyone know where they went? I miss the food so much!!!!!!!!!!

Somehow, in the frenzy of my last report on RH, I forgot to mention the desserts.  I think I must have been drugged, because I NEVER forget the dessert.

It was on our second trip there this week, to try the happy hour specials, that I recalled having eaten probably THE MOST amazing key lime pie I've ever had.  The bar keep Terrence (yeah, we're on a first name basis now) recommended it, saying it was his favorite and made by the chef.  It really was fantastic and just what the doctor ordered for those winter blues.

On our second trip in we tried the lollipop lamb-chops with curry and  the onion rings with bleu cheese from the special happy hour tapas offerings.  My partner also induced a splurge with the molten lava chocolate cake.  The sauces were amazing with the dishes, the lamb-chops were cooked perfectly and served with shredded chard (we think).  Also they have Mac and Jack on tap, a beer I am officially in love with.

I would have gone for the cheesecake or creme brulee (also chef made Terrence told us), but the cake was pretty fabulous.  I actually liked the delectable vanilla ice cream more than the cake which makes me think I need my head checked or something.

I also enjoy the, sometimes, OVER intimacy this tiny space accidentally affords.  Take that as you will.

Robin Hood Restaurant is in the middle of nowhere (Union) and looks like something to giggle at when you're driving by.  Maybe that's why we stopped.
The restaurant on the inside however is sporting white linens and candlelight.  Didn't expect that!  We'd spend the day out experiencing some nature and felt out of place, the hostess sensed our hesitation (or overheard me saying something about my shorts being too short for white linens) and pointed us toward the Pub attached.
Now this is what we were looking for: laid back.

Laid back yes, but I believe you can order off the same menu and there is also a pub menu that allows for a less expensive option.  Sweet potato fries were awesome!  Probably second best ever (unless I count my own, which are damn good.)  And I had a great salad with fresh greens and fruit and cheese and a light non-obstrusive dressing.  It was win.  My boyfriend had their fish and chips and they were also pretty decent!

The drawback to the pub, was probably only what they had on tap.  Mediocre at best.  Also, it is, even in the pub, a little pricer that I think was 100% appropriate.

Not worth a special trip all the way out to Union for, but worth stopping in if you're there.  And if you are spending a weekend at Alderbrook or something, and want a finer-dining experience I would give the restaurant a shot.

Funny from the outside but still rather worth going in.

What a surprise on the way home from Ocean Shores to Bainbridge Island. We "Yelped" some restaurants and found this funky little place not far out of our way so we tried it. As other reviews suggest, the food and service were great and the atmosphere was refreshing and warm. If I didn't have kids with me I definitely would have hung out on the pub side with a few more pints...

From the outside, this place looks like a cartoon.  But inside it's not at all corny... it's warm and inviting.  Both the restaurant and the pub side are cozy and rustic, fireplaces and the whole schtick.  Beautiful, garden-stream outdoor seating in warm weather.  Service is fantastic and the food is fabulous.  Nearly as expensive as nearby Alderbrook, but the menu is more interesting.  And the appetizer fish tacos are about twenty times better.  There's something about this place that inspires patrons to chat across tables, getting to know one and other, sharing travel stories.  A really fun time.

This place has great decor and a real local feel to it. I think in the summer your going to find a lot of tourist and locals eating here. In the winter month its going to mostly be the locals. The food is good and not too expensive. They have a nice selection of beers and wines so there is always plenty to drink. It Union, so you just cant be that picky...
