I have been to Rockafellas for lunch and evening entertainment six or eight times including this evening. Â Lunch is a little better than public school lunches, with luke warm entrees and sides, but not causing food poisoning. Â
One evening I was harassed for being a disabled man with a service animal, but the animal behaved and there were no incidents beyond the ignorance of management about Americans with Disabilities Act. Â This evening will be my last visit to this establishment due to the owner's disrespect for customers he passes with unwanted touching and no appropriate gentle passing of customers.
The unwanted touching or SEXUAL HARASSMENT twice by the owner was denied by him. Â He blamed me for standing near my table with tight quarters, but no signs, warnings, or markings about the tight quarters. Â He did make sure other customers were sent into his club, as not to hear our conversation, beyond his 300+ pound bouncer who held the owner back from chasing me down the street.
I thought I would enjoy some live music and dancing, but only a DJ on tonight. Â This establishment has had trouble with the licensing board with over serving college students and bullying bouncers, but the real bully is the owner. Â There was no need for the unwanted, less than gentle pushing of my back with not a simple elbow touch and an excuse me.
I told the waitress that if the fellow in the white shirt, the owner, touched me again, I was calling the police for simple assault against a disabled man over age sixty. Â This is probably another club to bite the dust in the over rated Salem Massachusetts. Â Sexual harassment should not be an accepted form of business behavior.
Went with my boyfriend while on Vacation. Â
We went back of a bad review I saw on Yelp for Salem Beer Works. Â I'd rather have chanced SBW - Â
Walked in - was halfway greeted by a ditz of a blond. Who walked away before seating us. Â
When we got to our table we looked at a half empty restaurant
Already knew what we wanted for dinner placed our order of a what was a decent appetizer special of Lobster Won tons. Â - I say decent. Â
Dinner we both ordered Blue Burger - medium well. Â Â When it arrived it was over cooked and chard on the side. Â Â We sent it back. I felt bad for the waitress she was really nice. Â
The manager came over and said he'd 'Comp' 10% of our bill and gave us a Business Card Style coupon for 10% off our next visit. Â Â Hellooooooo we are on vacation and frankly wouldn't come back to you again. Â
Received our replacement burgers and still cooked well done; just without the chard sides. Â Â Â Ate half of mine just because I was so hungry. Â Â
Needless to say they did take off the burgers but we shouldn't have had to pay for a thing.
Lunch food is good not great. The atmosphere is excellent and the service I've had here is pretty good.
However that said they have a private room for 2 that's a old bank vault very romantic . For that room alone I'd give this restaurant 4 stars. Food is around 3 stars. But how often can u eat in a private room for no additional charge! You just have to reserve it
It's so strange because it seems like every time I come here the menu has changed...their current menu is on wilted dirty piece of paper with food and beer stains all over it. Â The building is beautiful and the inside has such great potential but it smells like old dirty rug in there! The carpet is filthy and it seems like they never got a chance to clean up from the bar scene the night before.
The service is painfully slow. The past two times I ate here it took about 45 minutes to an hour for our food to come out! The food was actually very good, which is why I gave it three stars.
This place has the potential to be a five star restaurant but they really need to clean up and get more/better servers. The cleanliness of a restaurant should be top priority.
I hadn't been to Rockafellas in about 5 years, because of an incident of really bad food & service. Â Recently, we decided to go back & have lunch & I'm so happy we did. Â The staff there was friendly & helpful & the food was great!
My husband had their bloody mary & it was awesome. Â I ordered the"day after thanksgiving" sandwich & my husband had some turkey/mexican wrap & both were great! Â
They were friendly to us & didn't seem to mind that we had kids in tow. Â It was early & the place wasn't busy yet & they let the girls do ballet on their stage.
Overall, it was great. Â Will be happy to go back sometime soon!
Tried this place for the first time the other night. Upon walking in, I found it to have a nice vibe, and there was a band covering all classic 90s songs, which I really enjoyed. People were dancing, having a good time. Rockafellas is in an historic building, which also attracted me, as I can be a history buff about Salem. They seemed to have a good drink menu. However, the positive atmosphere and singing along to Blink 182 was all that I really did enjoy about this place. I have to say, I didn't order any food, but my boyfriend ordered wings and received the wrong kind. My friend ordered a vodka soda and it was pure soda. Not kidding. All 4 of us tried it, and everyone found it to be lacking alcohol. She sent it back and received another, and this time it tasted more carbonated, if anything, but still missing the alcohol. I ordered two "The Blue Lady" drinks (I believe it was called something along those lines) and while mine did taste like it had alcohol, I didn't feel that it was quite enough. Not trying to say I am a heavy drinker, but I expected to feel a bit more "buzzed" than I was feeling after the drinks. I had been to another bar prior to going to Rockafellas as well.
In the bathroom, my friend was complaining about her drinks and another customer piped in that she found her drinks to be seriously lacking in liquor as well. At work a couple days later, one of the girls I work with told me she had also had to ask for more liquor to be added to her drinks there before as well. I feel like Rockafellas had potential to be a place I would frequent, but I don't want to spend a lot of money on drinks that have a poor liquor to mixer ratio.
I am a local and live in Salem, Ma. I have frequented Rockafellas since moving here for the live music and atmosphere. A couple of weekends ago my parents were visiting and they wanted to hear some live music/dance. My boyfriend and I have frequently gone there to do so, and were excited to show them how fun it was. However, this time around IT WAS NOT FUN AT ALL!
We get there and there was a cover so we were shuffling through all off our pockets to get the money to them because these days one does not often carry money with them. However, my dad is always one to, he ran to the bathroom while my mom and I had to tried to find the remainder 1.25 (literally that we owed). The hostess was rude telling us that it comes out of her own pocket and glared at us while we waited for my dad to come out of the bathroom (to give the remainder of the money). While we were waiting she told her manager that we had short changed her complaining etc. Remind you this was a 1.25 of which we were going to get to her and were planning to, plus spend money on drinks etc.
After hearing and experiencing her rudeness I asked for our money back as I felt experiencing the atmosphere was not worth her attitude and her managers. Come to find out was the owner! So, I asked for the money back the owner said to give it to us, so she threw it on the counter and then I went to pick it up, where upon she GRABBED my hand and yelled I am not done yet! In a not so nice way I told her to get her hand off me, whereupon the OWNER yelled for security who huddled around myself and my parents. I was appalled by the way they handled it as we were not irate customers but a family looking to dance and it was all over $1.25 literally!
NEVER again will I give that place my money, there food was always mediocre and I purely went there for the atmosphere. In addition my friend recently ordered an expensive steak dinner from them (take out) only to find a HAIR in her meal, YUCK!
If you are visiting Salem and want good food, friendly staff, and fun DO NOT GO to Rockafellas as you will be disappointed.
Went with my bf for lunch. The appetizer was obviously previously frozen. The sandwiches we ordered were barely ok for the price. And for a place that offers live entertainment and dancing in the evening, they didn't even have a little music on in the background, that might have drowned out the conversation of the table next to us. It was kinda weird.
As for the staff, I have come across friendlier toll booth workers.
Went during Halloween. Â Had to dodge a couple of people telling me I was going to hell for celebrating a pagan holiday. Â Got in, packed, sat at the bar. Â Good food, good drinks. Â No complaints rather than the hostesses demanding that the door stay open blowing 30 degree air into the place.
Review Source:So we show up at opening on Saturday 10/27/12. Line is out the door. We ask if we have to wait in line and learn we don't -- bar crawlers get an express pass. In we go. Picked seats at the bar -- it all went downhill from there. Bartenders had zero personality. Beers and drinks - nothing special. Ambiance -- not a lot of personality. Overall, a poor experience. Will not be going back. Looking for fun? Look elsewhere!
Review Source:No way would I ever go back here. The food was way overpriced and terrible. My husband ordered lobster mac and cheese that looked like pasta alfredo with lobster bits thrown in. I ordered the nachos which was priced the same as the lobster mac and cheese so I expected gourmet nachos for that price. Â Half the nachos didn't have cheese on them at all and the ones that did were covered in greasy chili and cheese. Â For the prices we paid, I expected much more than what a chain restaurant could deliver better for half the price.
Review Source:I was in Salem MA today, with my family. Â We decided to eat at Rockafellas. What a mistake!
When we sat down our waitress took our drink order. Â Never gave us waters. Â Our drinks too forever. Â Sodas came by not the liquor.
Then we all ordered dinner. Â One of us got the wrong food. Â The waitress blamed it on the kitchen. Â When we got the bill we seen she placed the wrong order.
The guy at my table had ordered steak tips and received turkey tips. Â He ordered double fries and received a single order. Â The manager came over and looked at the fires and actually told us that was 2 orders. Â I don't think he should have pointed this out since we already got the wrong food. Â So lousy waitress services and lousy management services. Â We will not be going back. Â Also we never received plates for our appetizers and the waitress never took away our empty glasses. Â At one point we had 5 glasses piled up on our table. Â
On the upside it is very pretty there. Â And I love how the kitchen is set up like a bank vault. Â But personally I would rather have good service and the right food!
Well. Â I love it when a local place gives me the opportunity to change my tune. Â Up until last weekend, I described Rockafellas as "gorgeous building, great outdoor seating, mediocre food. Â
However, there must be somebody new in the kitchen, becasue this weekend we stopped in for lunch, adn the food was just great. Â The chowder -- absolutely fantastic, clearly homemade and made well. Â The wraps, excellent also and lovely fresh salads. Â Plus, our waitress was a sweetie, really ent out of her way for us on a busy sunday afternoon. Â
The space could use a major facelift, I have to say -- it's such a lovely building insude and out and the downstairs has so much potential to be lovely, but needs some warming up. Â But aside from that I have to say that I won't avoid them any more -- the food was worth the trip!
When I moved to Salem about a year ago, I was excited to discover that Rockafellas has a Latin dance night every Wednesday, but I didn't actually make it there until yesterday. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. Perhaps it is unfair to compare it to going Latin dancing in New York, but that is my only point of comparison.
On the plus side, there was a nice variety of music - salsa, merengue, bachata, and one cha cha cha. It was also a diverse crowd with a decent amount of good dancers.
However, the first issue was the value. In NYC, I mostly went to places that were free (at least if you arrived early) or maybe $5, and they frequently had a free lesson as well. I've always been able to get some tap water for free (though I'll often tip for it). This was $15 for the lesson and dancing, or $10 for just the dancing. Then, on top of that, when I asked the bartender for a glass of water, she said that if I wanted water, I had to buy bottled water! If I'm paying $15 or even $10 to get in, I expect at a minimum to be able to get some free tap water.
The second issue was that it seemed to be a very insular community. I've never before had a problem getting people to ask me to dance, but it seemed like most of the people there knew each other and had no interest in dancing with people they didn't already know. I ended up dancing with the same older gentleman a bunch of times, and then not dancing at all for the majority of songs.
I do plan to try going again, and may ask some guys to dance, so perhaps my opinion of it will improve. Also, if you go with a group of people and don't expect to dance much with new people, that might help as well (although I always thought that part of the fun was dancing with new people).
The plate was hotter than the food. The food was good but not for the price. There were 6 of us and it took almost an hour to get our food and in that time we did not see the waitress once. When the food finally came out, the host (who served the food) ran away without asking if we needed anything. He had to be flagged down so I could get a refill on my water. The bill was then delivered without asking if we wanted anything else and the tip was included. How convenient; and it wasn't busy.
Review Source:I've had a good time at Rockafellas the couple times I have gone. They get a pretty decent crowd and the bartenders are attentive and overall friendly.
They have live music which I particularly enjoy when an over-the-hill faux 80s metal band plays. I drink my beer safely from the bar while watching the local cougar groupies grind on the dance floor. So sexy...and hilarious.
I don't particularly like when they charge a cover, come on, it's Salem. I'm not cheap but the thought of paying a cover to get in annoys me and usually will drive me elsewhere.
Nice looking place, plenty of charm. Service and wait times were really unacceptable and food arrived cold and unremarkable for a suprisingly hefty price. I mean, how do you serve mashed potatoes cold on a hot plate? Read reviews and spend your dining dollars at a place that wants your business.
Review Source:I've been to Rockafellas a few times, and I have never been impressed. I went last night and it was seemingly on par--overpriced albeit delicious food, so-so drinks, and a too-loud, unenjoyable cover band. For a restaurant that didn't seem to be too busy, the wait staff was  very, very slow, and unreachable for a long while. It took about 45 minutes just to be able to get our check, even after flagging down the waitress (who just gave me a "one minute" motion and never came back), asking the hostess, and asking the manager. We dropped almost $200 on a tab there and left completely aggravated. Needless to say, not returning.
Review Source:I've only been here about 3 or 4 times, all of them late Friday nights, so, my review does not reflect anything about their food or daytime hours, but of the nightlife.
The doormen were cordial, professional and polite. Â The $5 cover charge was reasonable, considering a band was playing and that the cover charge was to see the band, which was WildFire, the reason we went, who are fantastic by the way.
The bartenders and waitstaff are all friendly, pleasant and very nice. Â It does get crowded on a Friday night, so, it is difficult to move around, except on the dance floor which is rather large and can be alot of fun.
Overall, a very fun time with friends having a few drinks.
I have never eaten here, but I have only come here late night for cocktails. Â Loud. Â Crowded. Â A battle to get a drink. Â ALWAYS a cover charge. Â Nice entertainment tho.
But if your looking for an overcrowded college frat party where you want to die of thirst, than this is the place for you.
My review as far as their drinks goes is as follows: decent selection of beer. not horribly overpriced. they have carbombs, which is something I'm too old to be doing but partake in on occasion anyway. The cover charge is kind of lame but if you get there late enough you can generally avoid it.
My review as far as the patrons who normally drink here: basically the middle-aged versions of the douches from TITS. I have a large ass and I know that sometimes it can bump in to things. kind of like when one of those huge oil tanker trucks is turning a corner and they basically have to take up two lanes of traffic in order to make the tight squeeze. yeah, my ass sometimes will knock you over without my helping it. That still doesn't make it ok that some dude blatantly helped himself to two handfuls just...because, apparently. My friend escorted me out before I could punch him in the face. But really? grabbing a girl's ass, regardless of size or interference in your personal space is NOT COOL.
Came here yesterday with my boyfriend to eat some grub after a hard day at work (we had to deal with the salem tourists too).
We checked in with the hostess and were immediately seated within 15 minutes even though it looked like they were very busy.
The waitress came out very quickly(i'd say in about 5 min) tops to put in our drink orders. She was also very quick to put in all of other orders that followed.
Now my only major complaint is that I did not see the waitress after she gave us our main entree and I know being a waitress myself that it may not have been her fault. I'm assuming we may have been the only table she had to serve that was outside while most of her tables were indoors.
Which led to us having to get up and grab our mustard and ketchup due to the ones on the counter being practically empty.
We tipped the waitress nicely as she was sweet and did it good job considering how busy it was, but this goes as a note to the manager. If you are going to have outside tables, put one or two waitress' to handle all outside tables so that they actually have the ability to pass by the customers that they are attending to. Â
I'd say either that or have a regular bus boy that will walk around and attend to customers while the waitress is away and stand outside if a customer needs to be attended to.
Oh, Rockafella's. Large and imposing on Washington Street, famous for their "Pink Prom" and Halloween-themed nights. Unfortunately, once October rolls around, the decor leaves a bit to be desired, since campy bats and skeletons hang lazily from the ceilings. Servers do don t-shirts touting Rockafellas' "Helltini," which required patrons to sign a waiver before downing the devilish drink.
We ended up ordering the Fried Haddock sandwich and the Pulled Pork sandwich. The haddock was fried perfectly, just crisp enough without the fish becoming dry. The pulled pork was surprisingly good - there was just enough sauce, which was tangy enough so as to not feel sweet, but not make me want to rip my tongue out because of the spice.
Prices are reasonable, especially since it's October, and it's Salem. Drinks are expensive, clocking in around $9.
Aside from the regular who took his dentures out within 4 minutes of sitting at the bar.. my original expectation of Rockafellas was not what I had expected at all.
It's large and empty. Â I was expecting the set up to be different, however I kind of liked what it looked like. Â It's older looking and maybe they use vintage? To describe it. Colonial? Eh, whatever.
My friend S and I stopped by because she said their nachos were great. Â Or she remembered them as great. Â I have other views on that. Â I think she just wanted the Pop Rock Martini, which was really neat, pop rocks are so cool!
The bartender was nice, he joked with us which was good. Â He had a sense of humor. Â He let me have some olives, or ten.
The nachos, I've had better. Â But I'll return one day to try out some more menu options. Â Beware of the regular I speak of.. he doesn't stop.
what a disappointment, what a shame.
I was given a gift certificate here and was excited (as always) to try a new place. I've been here once before for a friends birthday so I just had a few drinks. It wasn't bad, a bit of an older crowd that night but I can dig it, I'm easily entertained (liquor in the mix is always a plus).
We went on a weekend night and the place was dead; a few people scattered at the bar but we were the only people dining. Scallops wrapped in bacon appetizer was decent but I wouldn't order it again. Eight dollars for four little nugget scallops? No thanks. I ordered their steak tips and my dining partner ordered the filet mignon. The tips were pretty good, nothing spectacular. I ordered the veggie of the day and mashed potatoes for my sides. Veggie was broccoli and it was smothered in butter and salt so of course it was delicious but it kind of defeated the purpose of ordering a healthy side haha. The mashed potatoes tasted like 10 mashed up cloves of garlic with a smidge of potatoes worked in, ICK. I love garlic too, so this is saying something. The filet mignon was a huge let down, I think I've had better at chain restaurants, and $24.00? Really? Even worse.
So the food was pretty disappointing, and I do not plan on coming back. There are tons of other restaurants in Salem that will blow this place out of the water. The service was horrible too. I'm a waitress so I am pretty easy on my servers, I understand if it's slammed or the kitchen is backed up or what its like when the chef makes a mistake.. This place was EMPTY and our waiter was never anywhere to be found. I thought maybe he was doing side work or something, but when we finally get the check and head out the door, we see him sitting flirting with a group of girls. How unprofessional, right at the front door? Tisk tisk waiter! You live off your tips & you're lucky I tip generously.
I've been to Rockafellas a couple times and I enjoyed their delicious food, although, I must admit it was a bit pricey. I tried their pear salad, filet mignon, chili, and a couple of other appetizers, which were delicious!
They have a good selection of drinks, some original ones (I did like the cocktail that let you take the glass home--it was a large and very generous $9 cocktail). But the cocktail that takes the cake and is the most entertaining this to watch is the HELLTINI. My boyfriend decided it was a good idea to drink this martini (which has habanero extract in it) and believe me, it was entertaining! If you finish it, you get a T-shirt (and a lot of pain in your face).
I truly loved the decor, the feeling of this old building is great! It's beautiful and I love the dark stained wood and the beautiful design of the building. It's right in tourist heart of Salem and it's so beautiful there!
The only down side I would say besides the prices is the service. The Waiter was very sweet when my bf downed the helltini, but the other times I had been there, it seemed that the wait staff would disappear and it was like a hunting game to look for them, which I found strange considering that it was nowhere near busy the times I went! So, wait staff, where are you?!
I've given this place a number of tries to accommodate for large crowds, off days, different chefs.. meh. Service is always slow, the antipasto I ordered said it was for 2 people so I thought I'd take some home.. it was not enough for 2, though it was priced for 2. It came atop of a bed of lettuce (weird?) accompanied by canned olives and canned artichokes, not buffalo mozzarella as described, and deli slices that tasted like they were from an oscar myer deli selects box... not good. At all. They also recently changed their menu... tacky, inedible pictures of food coat the entire thing... and it's HUGE so there's so much to pick through and that makes me think that there's so much that isn't good.
For what they're charging...I demand better.
Rockafellas.... I boycot you.
Man... these reviews are harsh! I went on a weekend during lunch and had a great experience. Â This is more of a 3.5 review Â
Recommendation
*Request to sit by the window. Its bright and cozy and you just feel so much happier.
*I think it's a cute place to take a date and the prices (for lunch) were very reasonable
*The Missing Staircase ($7) Grilled chicken breast marinated in Italian herbs with zucchini and pesto on grilled rustic white bread, was good, but not amazing. I loved the sweet potatoe fries, mmm :D
*I ordered some sort of white pizza, which kind of reminded me of BJ's great white, but as a thin crust-- absolutely delicious! definitely a winner!
*I was contempting about getting the waffel fries but decided against it. boy do i regret it! another table ordered a plate and it looked amazing! piled high in toppings and the plate was filled with fries for more than 2 ppl. unfortunately, we already recieved our meal *snaps fingers* next time!
If you have not done Salem, Ma on Halloween you have not experienced Halloween...
Unless you've parties with a million gay guys in West Hollywood, that comes as a close second.
There were millions of people. Â Mostly witchy women, even a guy dressed up as the house from "Up"!
So ready to get our drink on we sidled up to the bar at Rockafellas (girls can do that even when it's packed, it's one of our special powers) Â and they go all out on their drinks, I had a circus boy beer but not before dying to try the snickers martini, pumpkin martini, hell-boy martini ($20 and a t-shirt if you drink the whole thing since it's made with tabasco, chilis, jalapenos etc)
It was a packed place, the bartender was nice, but from Boston--you know, nice only goes so far in Boston. Â The chicken penne was wonderful and garlicky and the other people from Boston had no trouble commenting on that either "what're you girls goin as Dragon breath?!! Har har !"
Rockafellas is the center of Salem and great for a young, hot fun-loving crowd
Let me just start by saying, whoa. Â If I was rating this on the entertaining people watching it would get about 13 stars. Â However, I am rating it based on a night of drinking here. Â So, we park the car and my friend says, "Oh yeah, there is a $5 cover charge". Blech, homie don't play that, but seeing as we were literally at the bar...
I despise paying a cover charge for a crummy Cape Codder and and to listen to awful! loud! out of tune! mid-lifers live out their high school dream of being a rock star. Â
The crowd here ranges from college students bumping and grinding right on up to the awkward 45 year old dude trying to work it on the dance floor.  Yikes!
If you're oblivious to the loud live music, don't mind a cover charge and want to dance your ass off. Â Come on down!!
Rockafellas is alright. Â I like going here once in a while but some friends practically live here. Â The bar is like a pretty cool place for late 20s to early 40s somethings to hang out with the occasional early 20s or 50s people mixing in. Â It's got a nice, friendly, local town feel to it but in a slightly fancier way. Â While it's not a jeans and t-shirt place, no one's eyeballing you, so you can dress casually... but, around lunch and early afternoon, you get a lot of business types, lawyers, etc who come in dressed up for a quick beer and lunch.
They also have some really nice outdoor seating but each time I've sat there, the service was considerably slow so keep that in mind.
This time, I sat at the bar. Â My friend couldn't make it, last minute, but that didn't matter, the bartenders are very good at hanging out and talking yet keeping everyone filled up and happy... plus, there's a TV on with news during the day and, usually, sports at night.
I don't know about their alcohol but I did talk to some other customers at the bar and they love the bar... they say the beers are awesome, some from local breweries, and the martinis are, as they say, delish... but that's just what others told me.
I ordered a Ceasar salad with turkey tips on tip and DAMN, THOSE WERE THE BEST TURKEY TIPS I'VE EVER HAD! Â And the salad was great, too, but the turkey tips stole the show.
Today was the first day they were testing a new cappucino machine and they offered me a demo for free. Â I usually find most places cappuccino either too sweet or just plain unremarkable but this cappuccino was awesome! Â The froth was a pleasant consistency and the taste was just so smooth and even that I actually ordered, and paid for, a second one.
Overall, very cool place. Â The waitstaff is NICE but sometimes the table service is a little laggy so if that starts to happen, just stay on top of them. Â But the service at the bar is tops and the patrons are mostly local and friendly.
Bon Appetit!
I've had a fun night here and there but it gets nutty on the weekends AND not in good way. Its very hard to get a drink for one, and its a pain to get in. The bouncers make you wait in line to give the appearance that its super packed even when its not, which is a tactic I really detest. The food is eh, I've had mixed experiences. I have found that appetizers are your best bet. The pizzas are also decent.
Despite all this, I do still hit it up infrequently and usually with a big group of friends because sometimes you are just up for a drunken rowdy evening! To its credit, its a better option for the 25+ crowd than O'Neils... I've found that I've had more fun on off nights than on the really packed nights. I've also found that Friday after work is a good time to pop in, its semi-crowded and its conveniently located.
Rockafellas is really hit or miss for me. Mostly miss, unfortunately. The few good times I've had here have been while ridiculously inebriated and it wouldn't have mattered if the local band on stage was playing covers of landslide and natalie merchant.
I've probably only eaten here once and found it overpriced for the quality. The drinks are decent and stiff, but the bar is quite small and it becomes hard for me to peer my head out from the crowd to order. It's usually a decent mix of people, some college kids, some older couples...depending on what sort of function is going on, and they have a lot of functions, which are somewhat worth noting.
My experiences with the owners have been less than appealing, one of the women associated with the restaurant is weathered and nasty and has yelled at me on one or more occasions for petty things. It's kind of like when you have to visit your friend's grandmother who screams at you for not using a coaster. I came in here with a boyfriend once during the winter time, both of us in knit hats. He was told he MUST take his off, and yet mine could remain on, as it's a sign of respect for a man to take his hat off. BULLSHIT. What does this place think it is? 1940's speakeasy?
Also worth noting, I feel like fights break out in that general vicinity fairly often and I've seen the large side windows/door panes spidercracked MULTIPLE times. Not sure if it's the lame rowdy crowd seeping in from Ho'Neils or what....but awful. Just awful.
I am a guy who just loves to try new restaurants and eat at new places but my food selection is very picky. I like my food cooked to my liking and this place didn't do it for me.
I ordered marinated steak tips well done because i like my steak tips crunchy and my friend also had the same. Our waiter was incredibly lazy and didn't even care we existed. Of course he came by but when he did he would just look to see if we were done and take our drinks away without getting us new ones for 15 minutes.
To top it off i took a bite into my steak tips and it was medium rare at best and my friend who ordered the same thing but done medium well was disappointed to have his done the same way as mine.
There was absolutely no excuse for this because frankly there were at least 5 people waiting on tables and less than 5 people in the restaurant. I don't recommend you go here unless you want to pay high prices for such low quality.
Ohh and the steak made me sick for the rest of the night...go figure!
Though most popular as a classy drinking spot, try the food. Â It's good. Â I love their sandwiches, salads, and sweet potato fries for lunch. Â Service is slow, so if you are in a hurry, don't stop for lunch. Â I've also had their pizza, which was as good as any. Â I've had their berry shortcake, which was decent, but the shortcake was a little dry. Â The servers aren't overly friendly.
***Update, 9/29/2007***
Went for dinner & did not care for the food. Â I've been for dinner a couple of times, I don't think the food is that good. Â I still like their sandwiches, but I would not eat dinner here. Â I found the food to be bland & just not good. Â 2 stars for dinner, 3 for lunch & the martinis. Â Also, the place just isn't as nice as it was when it first opened.
