I read some of the reviews especially the negative ones and was quite surprised. Went with a group of 7 people and all of us ordered something different off the German menu except one person and none of us were disappointed. The waitress was very good and the service was excellent. I would not hesitate to try some of their other food.

I've been here a few times, and always received good food and good service. It isn't the most upscale place around, but it is good. More of a local bar and restaurant, but not really what I would call a dive. Though being in Warren, I could see it being a dive in Warren, as most of the places in Warren are upscale. I've gone for casual drinks/happy hour in the bar, for a few sit down dinners in the restaurant, and with a group of friends to see a live band. We always have a good time! A friend of mine has been to Germany a number of times and was impressed with the food options. They have an american menu and lots of different choices (from burgers to higher end entrees like salmon), as well as a german menu. He enjoyed the german food, said it tasted authentic. My husband loves their german food too. Being more watchful of what I eat, calories, etc. I was pleased to know I could order the salmon dish with a second veggie option instead of the rice, and with the sauce on the side. They are very accomodating!

Calamari was fair. Clam chowder ok. Onion soup excellent. Restaurant area was very cold. The bar area was warmer but old. Service was slow.

This place is supposed to be german food and beer. Its basically a dive bar with german wanna be food. I have been there a bunch of times b/c it was local to me. Its the kind of place you go for a beer to hang out with some friends. the resturant is pretty big but the food is not good in my opinion. If you need to eat b/c you are drinking then please do so, its not so bad where its inedible, but its not worth spending money.

    German food:

Rouladen- Stuffed rolled meat- Its a german dish that is very good when made right. Well they made this and it was so dry, if I poured a cup of water on it, it would have swelled up to the size it should be. As I ate it, I felt like it was sucking up my saliva and leaving my mouth parched. This was pretty gross.

Spaetzle- Gross.. something ouf of a package, and not even the good stuff.

Potatoes- were salty and had a weird texture

Saurbraten - This was another disappointment, the meat was tougher then shoe leather.

Bottom line... I don't feel like writing a bad review but their food isnt' great when they try to make the german grub they claim they are known for. They can make a regular burger which isn't any better then diner burgers.. So you have been warned.. Dive bar to hang out with friends when you are in the area.

We've been to Rolf's several times before this past weekend and loved the place.  We went for the German food and it used to be delicious!  But on 10/6, an Octoberfest weekend by 7 p.m. they were out of potato pancakes.  Of course the waitress waited 1/2 hour to tell us.  Offered to bring rolls, waited another 1/2 hour.  Dinner took 1 hour to be served.  It was definitely not up to par.  Very disappointing to say the least.  We asked for the manager, she said he was on his way back. She kept blaming problems in the kitchen for everything.  Finally a most apologetic manager came to our table and agreed to "do something" to make it better.  We got a generous discount, but it will be the last time we go there.  We are afraid of what might happen next time!

Rolf's is a local hangout.  For years the locals knew that the food was horrible and to stick with the bar.  The bar scene is friendly and laid back.  They have a good selection of beers and I know from talking to the bartenders that Rolf's regularly cleans the beer tap lines.
Recently (within the past month or so) Rolf's has hired a new executive chef.  Because of this I have been ordering the food when I go to Rolf's.  The food has improved greatly.  What Rolf's offers is good, honest pub food and German food at reasonable prices.  Recently I have enjoyed the jagerschnitzel and the buffalo wings.  Both were awesome.
I can honestly recommend that it is safe for all the local residents to come back and try Rolf's food.  It is very good.

I went as Living Social customer, it was good thing. For food we got and quality/quanty of food they were just over priced. As I was looking at Rolf's, since I bought this coupon while back and I noticed that they have section with German food, I got little excited. I was looking for good German food for a while. Then I realized that was mistake. I was very disappointed. This place definitely does not know how to prepare good German food. Start off we got a bread, which probably was couple days old (it was very dry). Then we ordered Knodel, Karoffelpuffer, Bier und Kase soup, Wienershnitzel and Jagerschnitzel. All the food did not have good taste. All the food was over cooked, dry and hard as rock. gravy was plain as well. I was also disappointed that lettuce came with potato package was old and not fresh. And top of all these, there was 2 flies around us and no one from the place did nothing about it. This is probably that 1st time I did not bring any food home after going to a restaurant.  Bier und kase soup was one of worst thing. I ever had in my life. I will not recommend this to anyone.

Laid-back place in the middle of nowhere to get a mediocre bite, a cold one, and friendly, good, down-home service. The stained-glass panels hanging over the bar remind me of my parents' basement decor in the late 70s; I felt right at home.

Warren NJ is an upscale area. This bar/restaurant is not upscale. Just the way I like it. It's a local hangout. A few TV's to watch some games. A pool table and some token video games added for your playing pleasure. Atmosphere is musky...older with a little character.
Their menu has typical bar food. Burgers, chicken sandwiches, cheese steaks, salads (not many) but with an added flair of German style food (Bratwurst Sandwich, Wienerschnitzel, etc). I ended up going with the burger topped with horseradish cheese but half way through it the guy next to me ended up getting my burger since he said it was spicy. I didn't even mind (it ended up being the port wine cheese burger). It was good but the bun was way too crispy. So much so the bartender even made a comment. Had the bun been soft and somewhat fresh it would have added an extra star to this place. Their fries aren't that great either.
They do have some potent beers on tap (plus 9 alcohol) and their Guinness was quite delicious.
    ATMOSPHERE: Local, dive-y
SERVICE: Good although there was no one at the door and you basically seat yourself. Bartenders were friendly.
PRICE: Not bad. They have beer and wing specials one night, trivia on another with beer specials.
FOOD: So-so. They do have pizza which I didn't try and an assortment of German food.
Likely I will return to try some other options. Hopefully they get the bun thing right!

We really liked the restaurant. Had French onion soup, wurst , gurken salat, and strudel, only thing did not work was rolade.would expect more german beer choices.
They have a nice bar area and a band was setting up but we were not able to stay. They have good areas for groups and a back room for larger groups. The local area around this place looks very nice as well. I am glad to have somewhere I can go for german food, but others can partake of good seafood or regular american fare. We would like to come back, and I might even try to get a larger group get together since a lot of friends live out further in NJ, so makes for a central choice for us.

I am not changing my review but I do feel the need to update since my original review was when I first started "Yelping" and it is a pretty bad review.  Rolf's is as much a neighborhood bar as you will find in this area.  They have a bar area, dining room and an outdoor seating section.  I do think the burgers here are pretty good.  My favorite thing here are the wings.  Great wings - breaded, spicy and they serve great blue cheese with them.  I believe there is also a wing special on Monday nights.  This is a decent place to bring some friends and grab some drinks at.

One of the best steaks I have had in years.  Nice German salads were a nice change.  NICE SERVICE AND GREAT BAR TOO.  Getting a little dated with all the wood panels and brass, but still quite nice for a neighborhood restaurant.

Our first 2012 review!  We were hungry and in the mood for a fairly cool, chill, inexpensive place where we could grab a few drinks and a light bite.  Rolf's really fit the bill.  Tucked away in Warren most people have probably driven by it many times without even noticing.  We came in and sat by the bar in a not so comfortable booth.  It was dark and the hockey game was BLASTING but the crowd was good and the waitress and bartender provided really good service.  We both ordered a burger, "M" got a Tavern Burger, "A" got the Port Wine Cheddar both about $8.  They were really good.  Cooked well done and still juicy and tender.  They also have Hoegaarden on tap and serve it in the Hoegaarden Glass, $5 each.  Very nice and unexpected.  So with 2 beers each the bill was $40.
Would we return?  I say yes, I think Rolf's has a new fan.

Rolfs is in a category by itself... best town bar hands down. Bartenders are Amazing food is killer.. great specials for wings and beers.  They get all the NFL games on Sunday and have some great live music on the weekend nights.  Def a place to bring your friends and just have some beers and a good time

Had a hankering for German food and found this place close to home. Potato pancakes were great, but got noodles rather than traditional spatzle which was disappointing.

Main courses were fine, just nothing to write home about. We'll come back, but this won't become a regular rotation place for us.

havent had the food. only reviewing the ambiance and bar for the evening.

not terrible but you are not going to experience warren at its finest either. keep your expectations low and you'll do just fine. no complaints about the service or bartending.
