I'm extremely fond of the Rongo. It's a wonderfully quirky bar/dance-hall in a wonderfully quirky town. On my most recent trip to Trumansburg (July 2013), however, there were signs up saying it was closed and would re-open in 2013 under new management. It would be a good idea to call ahead if you're planning a visit.

If you are near Trumansburg, this is a must see. Oh the hippies, the colors, the odd bands! The braided hair and long skirts, the locals mixing it up with the undergrads and transient folk. Posters of The Grateful Dead, memories of silly times with a group of friends. You don't need to primp for this funky dark old bar and skip the wine.

Awesome Bar and Music venue.  The space is very cool - brick walls, concrete floor, double high space with an ecclectic/funky decor.  It's a really intimate venue to hear live music and have a few drinks.  The bartender was really nice and attentive and the prices were fair.  This place is a hidden gem.   I'm on the hunt for good local mexican cuisine so I'll have to go back to try the food.

Poor, slow service. Cold inside. Ugly, bizarre decor. Low quality food, especially for the price.   I was surprised by how they were able to screw up such simple dishes. I'm not exactly sure what theme they are going for, as it had elements of Tex-Mex and organic/local traditional American. Whatever it was, it was poorly executed and overpriced.

What a fun & funky place!  My husband and I both had burritos. They were DELISH!  The green sauce ROCKS!

You're wondering, "Where can we go out for something to eat tonight that won't break the bank and is a nice place to hang out?" The answer is the Rongo. Almost always, there is some live music going on, some people hanging out and some plain but acceptable food on offer. A local business definitely worth supporting, and it's okay to bring the family.

Excellent place to kick back and try a few - or many as the case usually ends up being - drinks.  Fun atmosphere.

The Rongo has changed hands many times and has even been closed periodically, but when I make my once- or twice-a-year trip to upstate NY, this is an absolute must for me. Hell, I met my husband here a million years ago and we wrote our wedding vows on the back of band flyers while sitting in the window seats, drinking Suffering, Dying and Dead Bastards.

If they still serve food, give it a try. I've always enjoyed what I've had, even through different owners. Historically, it's been mostly vegetarian Mexican food. They get lots of local bands; surely one of them would be to your taste!
