I think maybe the best place in Santa Fe to sit in the afternoon, get a little sun, and have some appetizers and beer. (next best place to sit - Bell Tower Bar at La Fonda for sunsets, but get there early to get a seat)
Tip: go with the bucket of Corinitas. Looks cool, and the ice in the bucket keeps the bottles cold so even if you drink slowly at all future possible moments your beer will still likely be cold.
Tip: bring your sunglasses and some sun block (and/or a hat) and then sit at one of the stools on the side to watch people walk around.
I mistook this bar for a restaurant and so my husband and I came here for dinner on a Saturday night. Great energy, the place had a lively crowd. But the seating was uncomfortable and the place was just too crowded to sit and enjoy a meal. And you didn't even have a view. I think I would have been happier to just order a drink and hang out at the bartop along the wall and do some people watching and then go somewhere else for dinner. The food wasn't that great. It is mostly bar food on the menu... tacos and burgers. And I didn't think our tacos were very good. We both LOVED the chips and salsa, though. And they had a lot of fun specialty cocktails and some good Mexican beer on tap. Servers were friendly but not very attentive... but again that was because it was so crowded.
I would come back for happy hour or late night drinks with friends but not dinner.
I've been here about three times in the last several years. This is the place I choose to come to when I'm in the plaza area. 1) inexpensive for SF 2) Great fusion food 3) excellent and unique cocktails.....and I could just go on. Favorites are the Fish Tacos, Green Chile Kobe Burger, meatloaf. Love their Jalepeno poppers-they are must when visiting. Be prepared to sit outside, listen to music and casual atomsophere. Head up the stairs or elevator from Coyote Cafe, there's a sign indicating Rooftop Cantina at the bottom by the restaurant. Love this place in SF.
Review Source:What a nice casual surprise! Dropped in for a late dinner after a long 13-hour drive and boy, am I glad we did. Â The food was incredible (for being a bar). Â The drinks were delicious!! My husband ordered the veggie tacos...he was speechless. Â They came with 2 different salsas. Â I ordered the Cobb salad, which was delicious as well. Â All in all, great food, great ambiance, great experience!!! We will be back..
Review Source:We came here for dinner on Friday after it re-opened for the summer. It was PACKED and had to wait 15 minutes for a table. The server was great- really attentive and when we asked for something, he brought it right away. I ordered the Al Pastor (pork tacos) and it was SO GOOD! Really tasty pork and fresh side dishes. We also ordered a side of fries and they are the really thin ones and fresh.
I also ordered the skinny girl margarita and it was tasty! I could really taste the liquor, which is nice. It was tequila and lime juice- check it out.
Overall it was a great time and can't wait to go back for another dinner/happy hour!
I like Pina Coladas, not so much getting caught in the rain. I'll leave my midnight activities off of Yelp, thankyouverymuch, but open-air rooftops and day drinking are some more of my faves. With these factors in mind, I made my way to the Rooftop Cantina to enjoy some alco-sugary delights.
The view was nice.
Maybe I should have ordered some food to take in the whole experience? I found the sorta secret staircase, lumbered up the steps and ran into a disinterested hostess. She gestured me toward the rooftop... and I wandered into a disinterested bartender who told me to sit wherever I liked. After waiting for a few minutes, a disinterested waiter came by to give me a menu. In fact, the most consistent attention I received was from a pack of flies who were buzzing about all the tables. As I got to know my insect co-drinkers, my waiter came back. I ordered a pina colada. "That's it?" "That's it. Thanks!" *lip purse/side-eye*
As the flies did their best 'The Birds' impression, I got my pina colada. It was good, for certain. Was it the best I'd had or worth the overwhelming averageness... eh, not really. After slurping down my frosty treat, I was ready to settle up. I paid with a $20 and was told, "I don't have change." "Can you get some at the bar?" "..." ((six minutes pass)) "I couldn't get enough change." Unwilling to argue, I took my 'change' and left... somewhat bewildered and, definitely, besieged by flying vermin. Again, at least I enjoyed the view.
Great food, great service, and fun rooftop dining. The veggie taco's and house-made guacamole were great.
I was really impressed by the service. I was eating alone and couldn't eat a whole order of the gaucomole, so the server gave me a nice big sample cup and didn't charge me! The food came out exceptionally fast too.
Holy cow this place is awesome. Â Great place to mingle with fun locals, great view, awesome drinks and New Mexican food. Â I was there for 5 days and went there every day, either for lunch, dinner, drinks, or all the above. Â Fantastic chips and salsas, fish tacos, southwest cuisine, and one of the best drink menus ever!
Review Source:Got 10 bucks to spend on the best Pina Colada of your life? Go to the cantina on a nice breezy afternoon and indulge in a Coco Loco. After you're done you will have a nice little buzz going so when you head over to the Plaza Mercado for some roof hopping it won't hurt as bad if you happen to fall.
Review Source:There is something about drinking margs, eating chips and salsa while looking down from an open second floor rooftop bar on tourists. Rooftop Cantina offers lots of looking in a tight fit open air bar and its fun to sit along the edge sipping thier decent margs (Marias makes better Margs) But, a perfect quick stop on your walk back to the hotel-good friendly service and lots of drunk tourists but a hoot!
Review Source:We were only in Santa Fe for one night because we're on a cross country road trip. We love Santa Fe so we made it a point to stop there even though we had limited time. Our night was made perfect with a pitcher of sangria and some delicious, fresh Mexican/New Mexican cuisine, enjoyed in the cool night air of the Rooftop Cantina; Coyote Cafe's outdoor counterpart. Sit outside and enjoy a beautiful view of the Plaza, the mountains and the sunset. The food isn't spectacular but it's pretty darn tasty. The guac is the best and it's pretty spicy. Other good options include the mole tacos and the quesadillas. The view, the drinks and the friendly service are what to go for!
