It's not a bad place. Their patio is a nice place to hang out and drink a few brews with friends. I had the pizza here once, and it was pretty good. I have to say, though, that I don't come here very often when I'm in Alton/Godfrey because of how it's been like a high school reunion with the people you liked least.
If you're in your 20s and went to Alton High, and you come on a Friday or Saturday, chances are you're going to run into one of those douchebags you hated growing up. For that reason - the clientele - I'm giving it three instead of 4 stars.
This is a great place to watch sporting events being as they have TVs everywhere you look. Â There is a large projector on the inside that is a bit outdated, but if you don't mind the not HD it serves its purpose. Â For football they have a wall that is nothing but TVs so you can watch every game at once (Big plus for Fantasy Football Team Players). Â The food is good. Â The portions are huge. Â Almost anything you order can be shared. Â The bartenders are fast and make a great drink. Â My only complaint is that it seems there are no real sections for servers. Â They seem to be working both inside and outside, so the service sometimes lacks if you are seated at a table. Â All and all a great place to go!
Review Source:Good place to watch football on a heated indoorish patio. Like everything in Alton, super cheap drinks, and decent selection of bar food. You could do a lot worse here, but the patio can get pretty smokey, so if you like smelling like a crusty cig smoking geezer, then this is your place
Review Source:So I was here last weekend, June 23rd. The day of the Susan G. Komen race in St Louis. The group decided to stop in here for lunch and it was good. Even though I was still full from my Shakeology at breakfast, a beer on the walk (Rye IPA from Buffalo Brewing Co). I decided to go with what I thought was going go to be a small appetizer. It was not small but it was delicious.
I got the Southwestern Egg Rolls and they were great. I loved that it came with a big salad in between the egg rolls. I told myself I would only eat half and save the rest for later. That ended up not happening because next thing you know, I looked at my plate and it was empty. I had eaten it all.
The service was also very good. I love an attentive server. She made a good tip from our table. I do recommend going there, everything that everyone at my table had was good. Not one complaint at the entire table.
I'm a bit torn here.. I want to give it 5 stars... but then again I don't, but don't have a good reason.
Been here a couple times, most recent was Saturday, which happened to be their 8th anniversary party.. We swung by for dinner, but only had a couple apps and drinks as we had visitors heading over to the house earlier than expected.
After they left, we pointed the car in the Regal Beagle's direction..
DRINKS: - well priced and good sized. Â The wine is poured by the glass, not by the ounce.. The glass was FULL, great value on a good wine. Â They had a good beer selection and the price was ok. Â
FOOD: It was good.. not gourmet amazing, but filled me up. Â We had some potato skins and toasted ravioli, both of which hit the spot. For dinner I had the loaded potato topped with pork. Â The pork was good enough and the potato was well sized. Â It did have a bit too much cheese for me, but wasn't enough to ruin it. Â Everyone else said their food was good.
SERVICE: Service was good, kept us filled and came back to check on us, both times we were here.
We will be back when back in town
Now that we've been living in the area for longer, I figured I should update my review on Roper's. Â
They now serve "wood-fired" pizzas and to their credit, you can definitely smell the wood burning smell when you walk in. Â The pizza my husband ordered was so-so -- large chunks of meat, excellent fresh mozz but the crust was soggy. Â And half of the pie was taken up with a huge bubble that was a little less than appetizing.
The last two times I've been there, I've ordered the same thing -- southwest rolls and a pepperloin kabob. Â Both are top-notch. Â Honestly, the rolls are your run of the mill southwest rolls, but they are served over a roasted corn/salad mix that is excellent. Â And the kabobs? Â Amazing. Â It's a good taste of pepperloin for 3.99. Â
They DO take credit cards now, which is nice. Â I wish they had a kids menu, or at least an option or two, as they tout themselves as a great place to bring the family and watch the game.
The chicken cavendish, when gotten for take out and the butter packets for the baked potato melt and mix with the already creamy sauce, is heaven.
Other than that this place is okay. Bartenders are hit or miss. Good place to meet for a drink and run into some people you'd rather not.
I want to try the Fat Tuesday dinner and I still haven't been for brunch, about which a lot of Altonites rave.
