Very solid place offering pretty reasonably priced (for where it is) upscale pub food. One of the few places in East Hampton with no frills. The mussels are usually my preferred order but pretty much everything is solid. Won't be your best meal in EH by any means but a great pre/post movie option or when you want a lower key dinner compared to other Hamptons options.
It's also great in the winter when the fire place is going as it stays open all year.
Rowdy hall is tucked away from the bustle of the streets of East Hampton, and we are so glad we found it!
Cozy, quaint, and it got fairly rowdy! I'm only saying that because we were a large group, and our waiter was an absolute gem. We had a wonderful time, joking, laughing and great conversation. The service was prompt, quick and the food was great! Most people got "bar food" but it was made well and after being out all morning, it was a perfect lunch that hit the spot. After walking in, we only had to wait about 20-30 minutes to get a table for about 16 people which is very reasonable! We were hungry and the waiter made sure our food came quickly!
While waiting we got some drinks at the bar, and were watching sports which was great to keep the guys occupied. Drinks were strong, and the bartender was a riot.
When it comes to the food, I had the french onion soup which was perfection. On a winter day, nothing was better. I love the gruyere cheese in it, it really added flavor to the soup. Never wanted it to end! For the entree, I had my first Reuben sandwich and it was such a happy experience, delicious from the first bit to the last! So glad I got it on a friend's recommendation. Overall wonderful drinks, wonderful food, and a great establishment!
There was even a quaint outside patio area, we came in the winter so it was obviously too cold to sit outside, but I imagine that when the weather gets nice, this would be the perfect place to people watch and enjoy a wonderful mean any time of the day!
I wish they had a bit more variety on the menu. The prices were pretty high for bar food though, but I guess that is East Hampton, so I shouldn't complain. I would recommend this establishment for lunch, but the prices are out the door for dinner, and I'm not sure it is worth the price.
Take Home Message: Go for lunch, and HAPPY EATING!!!
If you're looking for some decent burgers and beers Rowdy Hall is a nice spot. It doesn't get "rowdy" but it sure does get crowded during the summer. They get a lot of traffic being in downtown EH. It's a great choice if you're looking for a very casual, no frills sit-down meal after a long day at the beach.
Review Source:Rowdy Hall is one of the best of its genre, anywhere. Â If you want to grab a burger and a cold draft beer at the bar, as I did this week, the service is friendly, efficient, and caring; the beer is nice and cold; and the burger is -- as the bartender announced as he served it -- "healthy." Now if I could just get in the place during the summer, it would be perfect.
Review Source:Surprisingly, it wasn't that rowdy other than my 3 year old acting up a little bit.
I love the location behind all the hustle & bustle of East Hampton. Â What a quaint & cozy little pub! Â On our recent trip to the Hamptons this was probably our favorite restaurant. Â
The waitstaff & manager were all pleasant & outgoing. Â Our family had a long day going from Southampton to Montauk then to East Hampton & we needed some good food. Â We weren't disappointed.
My wife got a BLT & I got the Rowdy Burger. Â We were both pleased. Â I loved their thick slice bacon on the burger on the BLT my wife let me finish. Â My burger was thick & juicy, not dry at all. Â Everything was fresh & cooked perfectly. Â The kids got chicken fingers & grilled cheese which were a step up from most kids menus.
They had a few beers on tap, nothing amazing but definitely solid. Â The bar area looked like it'd be a great time during busier months. Â Only one TV for sports but it wasn't busy at all when we went.
If you want upscale pub food in a cozy atmosphere without all the pretension of the Hamptons I'd definitely recommend Rowdy Hall. Â And the bill wasn't astronomical for lunch!
.
Tucked away between the high end shops of East Hampton lies Rowdy Hall. Â I've been there twice and enjoyed my meal both times. Â The menu features many local ingredients. Â On my first visit, I tried the omelette and a bloody mary--both very good! Â The second time I had the salmon salad--a great mix of fresh veggies, salty additions (olives, etc.) and well-cooked and well-seasoned salmon. Â Especially compared to the other more expensive options, it's a great choice. Â I also noticed on the menu that they have reading events there. Â
If you want bread, you have to ask (noted on the menu). Â
Rowdy Hall is not "rowdy" but it sure is tasty.
I've got to say I had overlooked Rowdy Hall despite all my bookmarks, yelping, and wandering!
Tucked away downtown, five of us decided to walk in Friday night, as apparently they don't take reservations. Â We did have to wait for a bit (it was fairly late, between 9-10...maybe even later?), and they were out of the bottle of white wine a friend had wanted to order, but aside from that, a great experience!
I ordered the salmon, 3 girls got scallops (I think), and one tried a steak salad - apparently the scallops were decent, but as I loved the salmon, I can vouch that it's good! Â
Also reasonably priced for East Hampton, so will be back. Â Definitely would be risky with a large group however, due to the no reservations policy, which will be the primary deterrent in the future..
They also have a couple outdoors tables, if you're ever lucky enough to grab those (or wait for them). Â Somewhere between a super casual and nice ambiance (i.e. nicer than i'd imagined, from the name).
My experience with Rowdy has always been fifty percent. Half the time I go here it is good and half the time I go here it is bad. A total of maybe twenty visits. And bad means bad service. Which is forgetful, uncivil, unpleasant, argumentative, all the bad things. And a few times good service. Food is good, if what comes out is what you have ordered.
I have held off on this review for so long and I really wish I could say better things, but not yet.
One of the only year around games in town  has gotten so so lazy. One wonders if these guys ever get to the city. The food here has become so mediocre and expensive! The interior of this beat place is pretty much identical to an airport Chili's
or an Applebees not that I've ever been to one but from the commercials....
i have a great suggestion for the owners and the chef, get out of town, take a gastronomic tour of some restaurants in NYC. Start at "Dutch", Â price points are very similar but the food is worlds away. We deserve better out here! Then go to Hearth or Terrior for starters. The patio is seductive, but once in it all goes downhill. Nick and Toni's could use the expert advice of an interior decorater while your at it.
Tighten it up boys, the city wolves are at your heels. Give us a reason to come back....
Rowdy Hall. Â It's a funny name, considering the very first time I went there, August of 2001, I was shushed. Â My husband and I still joke about it: Â "Shhhhh.... you're at *Rowdy* Hall!" Â But the extensive burger menu is epic and there is a real bar scene that's more local than tourist. Â It's especially nice for a first date because there's a fireplace. Â If you're a sports nut (like my husband), the bar has a large telly for all those important sporting events (that make my eyes glaze over). Â
Somewhat of a "Cheers" for the Hamptons, lots of regulars, great local service and the best burgers in town. Â Highly recommended. Â
-- But don't get rowdy!
It seemed like they had a pretty big variety of beers, but I was only here for lunch so this a review about the food. Very average is all I can say. I got the burger and my dad got the fish and chips. I've had better, especially in the Hamptons. The staff, nonetheless, was very helpful and extremely friendly. I did find myself surrounded by a lot of old-timers though....but maybe that was just because I went in late September past the peak Hamptons season.
Review Source:Pretty decent place. I went there tonight to reunite with some old work friends, so I was more focused on my friends than the atmosphere. We all ordered burgers and there were no complaints. The wait staff was attentive, friendly, and fun. No complaints. This is some place I'll definitely come to again.
Review Source:Rowdy Hall, once upon a time on Egypt Lane, is neither a hall nor rowdy, well sometimes it's rowdy, like on Rowdyween. Mainly it's nice dependable spot in the village for cozy conversation, hearty pub style fare and draft beer. The prices are reasonable-ish. Â It's part of the Nick & Toni's family of restaurants, and fittingly is well run with a good staff.
The burgers are famous, though sometimes the cooks need to be reminded there's a difference between medium rare and well done, also once fries are fried once they get tossed out, not fried again and served. The mussels are great and there are many salads loaded with goodies and I believe the only Shepard's pie in town. The desserts inspire children to eat all their dinner, like the brownie sundae that sends my kids into frenzy.
A cautionary note; don't touch the remote control for the TV in the bar, that is Joe's. Don't ask to watch rodeo. Joe picks the channels. I hope you like football. Â Cheers.
Great casual lunch and dinner in East Hampton. Located adjacent to Newtown Lane right before the road splits. Very relaxed atmosphere and great service. The patio seating is the best part especially if you can manage to get one in season. I had the Rowdy Hall burger which was tender and juicy with their steak fries. Â Great place for groups!
Review Source:Great place to go with Friends. Â Sports are usually playing on the TV's and its very kid friendly. Â Small outside area is nice to sit in especially at night. Â One of the few gigs that stays open late(ish). Â Nice beer selection and the food menu has good options and isn't too long. Â Food can take a bit to come out when they are busy. Â Go for Oktoberfest!
Review Source:We sat outside. So lovely.
First we had to wait though, so while we waited we enjoyed a drink at the bar.
The bartender was nice and my drink was delicious.
Once seated we had an awesome waiter. Very friendly.
I had the turkey burger, it was fantastic!! The french fries were addicting too!
For dessert I had some almond layer cake, it was so good!!! My boyfriend had the brownie sunday, I had to sneak a spoon or two of that too. It was delicious.
Definitely love this low-key bar like atmosphere. It was very relaxing and not as "snobby" as many restaurants in East Hampton.
Ambiance is great for a relaxed vibe in town while in the Hampton's.
Food is tourist trappy. All portions are shareproof. In other words it that's likely the only way they can keep their numbers up in a prime street in the village. If they open the large windows or you sit outside you can have an al fresco experience.. which is my fav.
My friend had the salmon with salad..and in all of my dining experience I have never seen that size slice of salmon as an entree. See for yourself.
I had a smoked ham with Gruyere cheese on toast sandwhich. It was deadly salty and non nutritive but something about gruyere cheese made me do it. I only had half and that was too much :).
Nothing on the menu tempted me slightly.. just not sure why. Again.. go in .. see for yourself.. they call it pub fare.. I say it's more like what you get at state concession stands with little tid bits of good ingredients in somewhat of a skimpy generic presentation. Shredded fries etc.. You get the picture.
They had an asparagas omlette.. I should have tried that. The menu doesn't go to deep. One item from each catagory.. for instance that is the only omlette I saw on the menu.
Rowdy's replaced an old Irish bar called O'Malley's not all that long ago. I summer in East Hampton but I'm originally from the Southern Adirondacks, and I've seen hillbilly/wannabe cowboys fight in bars on a nightly basis (lots of times the fights are on-and-off about the same things for like four months), so this place isn't exactly rowdy in my view, but it does get crowded beginning around 9. They've changed menus a few times and it seems to be getting a lot more white collarish, probably because those summer dollars are beginning to mean more and more. But the typical bar food is still on the menu.
But maybe that new menu is working, because the food is a lot better than you're going to get at the average bar. If you get any kind of beef they'll cook it however you want, but buyer beware, rare means rare. Not the best beer selection in the world but it's still good with a lot of local brews and the service is pretty quick. I can honestly say that the service there is good and the help friendly, giving it a true small-town down home feel.
Like I said, the later it gets the more customers there are, but it's not even close to being too rowdy to handle. It's not exactly cheap but the prices are fair and it attracts a balanced crowd. I would recommend repeat visits for sure.
Nice local bar in East Hampton. The bartender and staff is very friendly and helpful. Â They have 5 different types of beer on tap. Â The bar menu is good and they have escargot on their bar menu (only in the Hampton's)
So what goes great with a beer is escargot. Â The escargot was marinated in butter and garlic. Â After this meal I needed something to drop my cholesterol because I must have used all of my bread to soak in every drop of butter and garlic. Â
Overall I liked it here and will be coming back next time i'm around. Â Plus if you have Yelp on your cellphone they have a cool promotion where with one check in you get a free 1/2 pint of tap beer.
One of my first visits since my recent move to East Hampton. They recently updated their menu! Although I don't know what the old one looked like a friend I was with said that the food seems a bit more upscale rather than homey. Don't worry though, he said that all the usual favorites are there =)
The quality of our food was very good. We both decided to have the cheeseburger, which turned out to be a nice 1/4 lb patty cooked exactly as we asked. I also ordered a Blue Moon and instead of just tossing a chunk of orange into the glass, they served a nice wedge .of orange on a long skewer. Nice touch.
As time passed, the restaurant became quite crowded and very lively living up to its namesake! This was very cool and I can see why this place is a favorite amongst locals and tourists a like! This was my first time to Rowdy Hall and most certainly not my last!
Solid food, reasonable prices and good drinks. Â Great bartenders that know how to pour and not rob you! Â Come back in a year and they remember what you are having. Â Hamburgers, Fish and Chips, Salads and most other food is very good. Â This is a pub but a little on the upscale side. Â Regardless, the prices are fair, service very good and a fun place.
Review Source:haven't been here in a while but i really like this place. they've got great burgers and i really like the setting. its nice in the summer time too when its warm out and they've got tables out side.
its a good place to go to grab a good burger before going next door to the movie theater.
check it out.
Rowdy Hall is a regular stop for me when I'm in town. The food is great, the atmosphere is fun either sitting inside or out, and the beer selection can always satisfy a borderline beer snob like me. The food never fails to impress, and their menu works for a larger group or a dinner for two. Rowdy Hall is one stop I never miss when out east.
Review Source:A great haven from the docuhebags of East Hampton. Â I work at the theatre down the street, and come here after our shows for a drink and some of their vegetarian chili - which Rowdy, of all places, has the BEST i've ever eaten. Â
They also happen to have a great bar with excellent local beer selections, and a friendly bar and wait staff. Â I'm very grateful to have a down to earth restaurant in the neighborhood when I'm working here.
The place fills up in the summer, especially for dinner. Â There is also seating outside in the 'patio' area, which is really nice on not-so-hot days.
Very disappointed with this hampton hot spot. We ordered buffalo wings to start (your basic), fish and chips, and an ear of local corn. The fish and chips was very greasy and the corn was plain and next to flavorless-which is strange because the local corn here is supposed to be delicious on its own. The worst part of the entire night was the french onion soup-which I DIDNT EVEN ORDER-my aunt ordered it and the scent of the soup was so nauseating I was unable to eat my sub-par meal in peace. The soup smelled like a wet dog, NOTHING in a restaurant is supposed to smell that bad! The service was unprofessional, as the plates were cleared as my cousin was still eating his corn (he ended up placing it on the table) and we had to ask repeatedly for water refills. I would never return here and advise others to follow suit.
Review Source:This is a great restaurant.
It's comfy and the food is excellent - seafood is always fresh and its great comfy food.
Its called the Rowdy Hall but doesnt have neither a typical "summer hampton" rowdy vibe nor pretentious "too wannabe trendy" decor. It's more of a warm vibe and relaxing atmosphere. Â Definitely a great place to visit during the fall or winter :0)
It's a cute place for some good simple food and good selection of beer on tap.
I've been here several times and everyone i bring here loves it!
I also saw one of the food network chef stars eat here....Ina Garten! Â And she knows how to cook!
Overall....definitely a fan and will be back when i'm in the hamptons :0)
Pub food without the rowdiness. Â =) Â Family-friendly from school age kids to seniors. Â
Well, I've only been here a handful of times for dinner with the fam. Â At least one person in our family always orders the mussels with fries. Â Best pub mussels I've ever had! Â I vouch for the mussels and salad. Â Never ordered an entree there before, but the burger does look good. Â
And the mussel broth is gluten-free, too, wethinks, as my husband has never had issues after having mussels here.
Well, it's certainly not O'Malley's (which it replaced a few years ago), but a bar belongs at the end of that alley next to London Jeweler's and Rowdy Hall fits the bill.
It stays open later and is a great place to grab a later dinner after catching a movie. I don't like hamburgers myself, but I've heard amazing things about them. I love that they have awesome salads and soup for someone who's not quite in the mood for a burger.
It's a bit on the expensive side for bar/pub food and if you're looking for something cheaper at the expense of atmosphere, John Papas is also a good place to go for a burger.
