With a name like the Rusty Hook and in Manteca, I was expecting it to be a grimy looking bar with the not so kind people of the area. But to my surprise this gem is a very cool bar. they have an excellent selection of beers on tap like Racer 5, Chimay, Lagunitas, & Smithwick's to name a few. I also noticed the nice selection of bottled beers as well... I tested out both bartenders to see how their pour was of their mixed drinks and was a heavy pour and the other was not so heavy. But either way it's a very nice good crowd and I do plan on visiting them again in the near future.. 5 stars for the decor and the wall of skateboard decks!
Review Source:This place is super chill. My husband went there on a Friday for a drink date. We sat at the bar and the bartender asked us what we would like to drink. I asked the bartender for something fruity, since I wasn't sure what I was in the mood for. Mind you the bartender was this super tattoo-ed, long mustache guy...he asked me if I wanted vodka or rum. NOBODY ASKS THAT? He made some strawberry and banana drink that was yummy.
The atmosphere is chill, they had a pool table, shuffleboard table and some TVs. Definitely will be going back there.
My roommate/platonic lifemate goes down to Manteca all the time to visit his family (like, every week), and whenever he drags me along, it's not long before I want to shoot myself in the head. His family is lovely enough, but there is next to nothing to do in this town--save go to the Rusty Hook.
In four words: Small Town Neighborhood Bar. Very where-everyone-knows-your-name kinda joint, but surprisingly not atall hickish. The bartender was kinda scenester actually, and there was a fair amount of 20 something working class people, kinda reminded me of my beloved On the Y in a lot of ways, as far as the more laidback atmosphere.
And you can't beat the decor: in the corner is a kinda of fake lawn and picket fence with a baby doll in a non-functioning toilet, some lawn furniture and a bra hanging from a laundry line.
Also: they gave me PBR in a Mason Jar. For $2. I repeat: PBR IN A MASON JAR FOR $2.
Also: this Jamaican fellow beat our asses at pool pretty badly. Which I consider a sterling recommendation as well.
I mean, if you're gonna go to "scenic" Manteca, it's either this or the Gnarly Winery. Actually, considering the selection of bars in a lot of bigger towns, you could do a lot worse in general. Also: I mentioned that they serve PBR in a Mason Jar, right?
PBR IN A MASON JAR.
I like this friendly neighborhood bar. My boyfriend lives here in Manteca & occasionally we stop in for a drink. You see lots of the same locals here, & the staff is super friendly & they make a decent drink. Love the shuffleboard table too! I always feel comfortable & safe  going in there.
Review Source:Went here for my Birthday just to have a few drinks with my Girls, I gotta say it's a Hole In The Wall Place but it's very clean inside & the Bartender Allison is very sweet & funny! She made my Birthday even better by surprising me by having everyone sing me Happy Birthday! & She gave me a Birthday shot of Patron! The crowd is chill & they have Karaoke! Â I enjoy it here, i feel relaxed & chill whenever i'm there! I will be coming back!
Review Source:Out of the few bars I have been too, I really enjoy the Rusty Hook. Â The atmosphere and the people are great. Â I feel like I fit in. Â I would recommend everyone to try the Creamsicle, only takes 3 and you are good. Â As some have said below, the place may be a little trashy and small. Â But I am not looking for anything extremely big and the people are very nice here. Â I also love the bartenders. Â They are very sweet and generous.
Review Source:Okay, so this is, hands down, my favorite bar in Manteca. Â The Rusty Hook is a great place to bring your friend's to have a good time.
All the bartenders here are awesome people and the owner, Kevin, is super rad. Â It's really easy to make yourself a regular here. The atmosphere is way cool.
Good open floor area and decent amount of seats with a pool table right in the center of the room. Â This place, on many occasions, can get pretty packed in here. What can I say? It's a popular place, especially during themed party nights. Nights like Halloween, St. Patty's Day, or "Just Because Party's" like 80's Prom night. There's usually a costume contest involved with a prize. The last one I went to was the Zombie and Zombie Hunter Party. Like I said, it can get pretty crowded, but there's been talk of some upgrades in the future.
Lots come out to just have a drink with friends. Some come out for pool. A buttload of people come out for karaoke on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Â If you're a fan of karaoke, you'll like The Hook. The database of songs is huge and the acoustics in this bar are amazing. I've sang many karaoke nights, heard many of the live bands that have played, and gotten the opportunity to perform with my own bands here. The concrete floors and walls are a singers dream. Â
One of my favorite things here is that there's not a lot of drama. It even says right by the front door: NO DRAMA. Most of the problems I've seen lately has come from the Rocko's rejects that have found a way to keep their ankle alarms from going off and wandered over to sweat douche all over the place. Â But that's another review.
Oh yeah....the Star Wars stuff hanging from the ceiling is bad ass.
I've been coming to this bar since the last owners owned it, and a little bit before that. $3 Dollar Pabst Blue Ribbon and a bar staff that can keep up with any drink order no matter how tall.
Only bad thing is riff raff tends to come in on the weekends, but it is the best place to come in for some karaoke, which they have now Tuesday, Thursday AND Friday now.
So whither you are looking for a place to grab a beer, meet up with friends or to do some Karaoke, make the Rusty Hook your first choice. The best looking dive bar in the teeks.
Now with less Riff Raff. FIVE STARS.
For a bar in Manteca I'd say its OK. It gets packed which doesn't take that many people. It's small and looks like a crack head hang out on the outside but when you walk in its usually a younger crowd (when I've been there) I like the fact that it offers Karaoke which make people want to get waisted. But the location is not the best of places. I suggest everyone visit the Hook to make their own judgements.
Review Source:Hey, its a dive bar, and it everything a dive bar should be. Â Dark, cheap strong drinks, good peeps and atmosphere, they have a awesome internet jukebox, daily happy hour with dollar pints, and Tues/Thurs Karaoke.
Newly Remodeled and expanded, its not as divey as before, but they have a shuffleboard table now, and 10 beers on tap, and more seats now, still good, just less divey.
well i know the owner so i am a little biased, But kev has done manteca a solid by creating an environment where anybody can come and feel welcomed.
The bar is small, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in drink prices (and specials) and character.... i mean c'mon how many bars can you go to and expect to meet a guy named fraggle while enjoying a 32oz mason jar of pabst...?
rock on at "the hook!"
It's pretty good.. I'd say it's my favorite bar in the valley for sure... The drinks get poured very strong and the crowd is pretty cool. The bartendress is awesome, and I like the decor... the only complaints I have are the size (pretty tiny, not much they can do about that though), and the Jukebox, which is one of those internet jobs that I hate... I wish they would just get a regular jukebox and have some decent music to choose from.
Review Source:i've gotta give the Hook 5 stars for
A) Live music.... Â
Manteca had no venue for local bands back in the day.. I wish..
B) Cheap drinks.. Â I can get extra shitty with my old friends for cheap.
C) The owners are cool.
D) Â I always have a blast whenever I show up here.
If I still lived in Manteca, I'd probably be bartending here.
This was the second and final stop on our tour de manteca last weekend. Â i gave it two stars for a couple reasons... First, unlike Rocko's, the rusty hook actually has character. Â The decor is funky/retro/divey rather than just being "sporty"... Also, although the people here are also somewhat trashy, they're friendly. Â We had a couple... interesting... conversations. Â Third, and most important, I got a huge mason jar full of pbr for only $3. Â Shweet. Â I feel like i should actually give this place 3 stars... but come on... it's still manteca.
