Overall experience was good. Â Food, service and ambiance were all very good. Â the only thing keeping them from 4 stars ids that there was a toddler there (obviously a child of one of the help) who insisted at screaming out all his commands and comments. Â Very annoying and the staff just ignored all. Â Too bad.
Review Source:Ugh. Ugh. Ugh!!!! I reallllyyyyy wanted to like this place...lord knows there are limited options in Watertown. Â Ruyi Asian Fusion just makes it so impossible to love, no, even LIKE them. Â
I came home to visit about a month ago. Â About five of us decided to go in one Saturday night before hitting up the Paddock. Â We were seated and waiting on the arrival of guest number six when our server took our drink order. Â Now, I have traveled enough to know to be aware of cultural differences. Â I get it, but our server was flat out RUDE. Â I have served before; I know waiting on large groups can be a real test of patience -- especially large groups who haven't seen eachother in a long time and have a ton of catching up to do. Â I tend to be really aware of the situation and try to move my order along (as well as everyone around me). Â Our server seriously greeted us like her maltipoo just died. She was extremely annoyed that we were waiting on number six (Adrien, you're always fashionably late!) to arrive before ordering our food. Â Yes...she was annoyed even though five minutes passed and we still didn't even have our drinks, let alone any water for the table.
The last of our diners arrive and it's time to order. Â I tried the cheery approach and ordered my tea, mango vermicelli salad, and spicy tuna roll...all with a smile. Speaking of rolls, I was slightly disappointed in their variety but maybe the fact that they're in Watertown scares them into sticking to the traditional rolls. Anyhow, our apps came out with our drinks and we were missing several items. Â No matter, our server fixed the issue rather quickly even though she was not even slightly friendly about her errors. Â When my mango vermicelli salad came out I was slightly taken aback. Â I'm not sure how this can even be on their menu. Â It was literally ALL crunchy vermicelli slathered in some sickly sweet sauce. Â Yes, there was some jicama. Â There was the equivalent of one half of a mango on there and it was not even ripe. Â I had several people try it just to ensure that I was not insane. Â I was under the impression that this "salad" would be more than a huge pile of crunchy noodles drenched in "spicy sweet chili sauce" (It tasted like straight up orange sauce...gross). Â This dish was awful so I politely tried to send it back. This is where things got really dicey. Â Our server started yelling at me in front of our group. She said, and I quote, "But that is what you order!!!" She wasn't quietly stating that I ordered the dish. Â She was screaming a fact at me. Â It was extremely rude and unprofessional. Â I get annoyed just thinking about it. Â I said, "Yes, I realize that but I don't like it. Â May I please send it back?" and she continued to question me until I finally picked it up and thrust it at her to take. Â By this point, I didn't even care if I had to pay for it so long as it was not in front of me anymore. Â She ran to get her manager, who also yelled at me and then WAVED HIS HAND AT ME and said "whatever" as he walked away. Â This whole situation was just incredibly odd. Our entire table was aghast. Â Our server's second strike was when she came back with white rice and tried to hand it to the girl next to me (who was texting her husband about their baby) by reaching over me and yelling, "Girl! Hey girl!!". Â Uhhhh....hmmm...I cannot chalk this experience up to cultural differences, as much as I'd love to. Â
The spicy tuna roll was disgusting, by the way. Â It's like they mixed canned tuna in there or something. Â Not even kind of fresh or tasty. Â Very disappointing. Â Our server tried to compliment someone's Coach purse as we were settling up the bill which was really awkward. Dinner was already ruined by that point. Â It was just a really bizarre experience, overall. Â Listen, I'm all about the atmosphere and loungy feel Asian Fusion has to it but...I need good service and good food, above all. Â Some of the best food I've had has been from places that may be considered 'divey' by some. Â I need a friendly face and flavorful food. Â
I really wanted to like Asian Fusion, I swear. Â I like the Hibachi place on Arsenal and am surprised that the two can differ so much (in terms of service). Â Maybe someday I will give it a third try but I am not sure...
I was pretty excited about this place after reading the reviews, but unfortunately I left pretty dissatisfied. Their atmosphere was wonderful and I loved their plating. Their food wasn't good though, definitely not traditional. Their lo mein tasted like fast food Chinese and their Philadelphia roll didn't have avocado and tasted wayyy too smokey. This place is far from authentic. They also didn't give any refills.
Review Source:Love this place! Â To sum it up:
Amibience - Â fun. Electric blue and hot pink lights at the bar, around the pond (with fish!), worlds away from any other place in Watertown! Â
Service - don't change, we love the attention we get from you all (that includes the husband, the won't-sit-still-toddler, and the infant)!
Food - the occasional sushi roll presented with sparklers, pad thai (delicious -- and quite the value for what you are getting). Â Sushi rolls - love the samurai roll and the shrimp tempura roll (I think that's what it's called). Â Drinks -- the occasional mix-up with drink orders, but I can overlook that. Â There is quite a variety of dishes to order from the menu.
The business in here has increased tremendously since we started coming here in October -- hope this restaurant is here to stay! Â There is something for everyone here.
Came here with a group and it was nice. Â Pretty much the same menu as the other location without the hibachi. Â Everyone enjoyed their sushi, there was a good selection of beer and sake. Â Nice ambiance, pretty much a date or group place. Â My wife likes it enough just to get their sushi as takeout.
Review Source:Went for dinner with 3 other people - ordered a few appetizers and each an entree along with 2 bottles of wine. Â Bill was $150.xx - but wasn't really worth it.
We were seated immediately. Â It was pretty quiet for a Saturday evening, only about 2 other groups there, both small; and a couple of guys at the bars. Â The waitresses didn't seem to speak English even in comparison to other asian restaurants, and we had one come ask us for our drinks right after we gave our drink orders to another waitress (a cup of tea, with one refill, is $1.99!!! Â Not a pot, but literally a small cup was brought out - the rest of us just ordered water, in addition to the wine of course).
Appetizers: the Indian Pancake (I think it was $6-$7) had a good peanut sauce, while the pancake was more of like a croissant/pastry but at least it wasn't sweet; the Vietnamese Summer Rolls ($6 for two rolls), which basically was 2 shrimp with some spring mix (like those you get from Sam's club) with some raw green mangos cut into strips wrapped up in rice paper and sweet chili sauce drizzled over it; and the Mini-Rolls (5 little ones for $5) were probably the best out of the 3 appetizers. Â It was mostly taro. Â And it does not contain any meat - it's listed as vegetarian on the menu.
Entrees: I ordered a TomYum soup as part of my entree (had mushroom, shrimp, noodles tied into a bow! as well as a piece of scallop for $6). Â The Bangkok Basil Chicken ($15) was about a step above take out chicken and the portion was average in size. Â Mongolian Chicken was like the Bangkok with some extra soy sauce in it, also $15. Â The fried chicken (forgot the name, about $15) was pretty much like a large chicken finger cut up into pieces over a little bed of lettuce/cabbage. Â All three dishes were served with a side of white rice. Â We also got two sushi dishes: Gyu-Filet Sushi (sp?) that was pretty good (had rare filet mignon over a roll that was similar to spicy tuna) and the other one was the Sushi E-something (Enterprise? maybe?) and that was a couple pieces each of different types of fish as well as a regular roll (I think tuna or salmon). Â I myself didn't try the second sushi dish b/c well, it was someone else's dinner after all lol.
The sushi was good, at least the ones we got. Â But the other dishes were mediocre... maybe, MAYBE, a step above takeout in a busy city, - I'm not located in Watertown after all.
The two bottles we got of Riesling were good but pricey: $36 for 2. Â But in comparison to other places I've been too, $18 for a bottle isn't too bad I guess.
We paid our bill, but since the night was still young, we decided to head over the bar and continued drinking there. Â The bar was a full bar but we mostly had the Japanese beer: Ichiban and Sapporo which we knew were good. Â About $4-$5 a beer so not too bad.
Over all, this place was disappointing. Â It's a good place if you're in the mood for sushi, although it's pricey with most rolls, even tame ones, above $10, going up to $18 I think for a roll. Â But it is good - that's the only reason why it got the 3rd star. Â The TomYum soup was good too. Â So I would recommend just sticking to the rolls.
