Great brick oven pizza, in fact the best pizza in North Carolina as far as I'm concerned. Â The atmosphere is interesting and well, let's just say it's cozy. Â I don't drink beer but from the looks on folk's faces, and the amount of beer they sold while I was there, it must be pretty darn good. Â The only drawbacks are limited seating and no wait staff. Â I really don't think there is room to have a wait staff. Â I have been here just a handful of times but will be back for sure.
Review Source:We only stopped in for a beer - ended up having a few. Bartender was talkative, friendly and started the fryer in order for us to get a serving of a fried bread that was topped with sugar and chocolate - did I say YUM? I understand why there were locals in here because it certainly was a friendly place ... and amazingly all before 5 pm!
Review Source:Fantastic pizza. i love pizza and despise crap like any fast food pizza place so on that one thing alone they are worth it to me. They also have beer which im not old enough to drink but i know the brands and i know several who love what they serve here especially since its not junky stuff its all micro brews. The only downfalls are 1) the size of the place. If you go on a busy night which its busy often then chances are youll be there a while just to sit and longer to get a pizza not because they are slow its just that they can only make so many pizzas at a time. 2) the atmosphere. Its a bar so its loud and energetic with some rude workers not all of them just one or two but you only have to interact with the workers when you order and when you pay and if you sit outside thats even better.
So bottom line if you want good pizza and beer come here if you want a peaceful quiet evening eat outside or go somewhere else.
The pizza was great. Everything else was lacking. Â There were very few tables and it was extremely noisy! Â I could not hear my child talking. Ordering at the bar was strange. Then I was served pizza with no plates or napkins or silverware. I had to go to the bar to ask for those. Need refill on drinks? Â Get up yourself and go ask at the bar. Not great service to me. May be better for takeout.
Review Source:Pizza and beer. What else could you want?
My husband and I like trying new beers and The Salty Caper is the place to do it. The staff knows their stuff about each and every single beer on the menu. We tried two different kinds each and they were all great.
We got a spinach and feta pizza, it was absolutely mouth-wateringly delicious. The best pizza I've ever had. I can't wait to go back and try a different pizza.
The only gripe is the seating. It seems almost haphazard, like they don't have enough space for the tables or something. But that's not their fault, so it's not a big deal. It seems like it would be really cramped if it was a full restaurant.
Damn good pizza. Â Great place and friendly staff. Â They also have a great regional beer selection on tap.
My only, minor, complaint is they don't have wait staff. Â If you are sitting at the bar then you can flag someone to get a refill. Â If you sitting at a table then you have to get up and go up front to get a refill on your drink or another beer. Â You also have to order at the front though they will bring your pizza to the table. Â If the place is busy then you could be waiting in a line, with people placing pizza orders, just to get another beer.
The inside seating area is very small. Â They do have outdoor seating but you don't want that if it is raining or cold outside. Â Get there early if you go on weekends otherwise you could be waiting a while to get a seat.
Great brick oven pizza, lots of micro beers, cool atmosphere. Group of 3 of us ordered the Sgabei ( deep fried pizza dough ) and a large "the lovely" pizza. Both were delicious. Left there stuffed with beer and pizza. We went on a weekday night and they were busy. Wouldn't recommend a large group though, they only have about 8 tables or so that fit 2-4. We ended up just sitting at the bar, I wish their stools were a bit taller because the height of the bar made everyone feel short and awkward... Other then that it was great and the bartenders were entertaining.
Review Source:Oh, caper, how I love thee. I've been going here for years and it's as good as it gets. House made everything. The pesto is especially delicious. My personal favorite pie of theirs is 'The Lovely'. You wouldn't expect to find a wood fired brick oven in a modern condo building in Salisbury, but here it is!
And then there's the beer selection...it's limited, but it's a great variety and high brow (sometimes Unibroue, even!). They have rotating taps and a larger selection in bottles. Occasionally, they'll run out of one or two; for example: any hefe in the summer. But this is a tiny establishment. Any beer they have you can sample before ordering. Just as a helpful note!
If you're with a group, sitting outside is a good plan. Leaning back in the grass with a pint full of beer makes for an enjoyable night. If you have a date along, intimate conversation while sitting close at the bar staring at the fire is as good as it gets.
I never would have thought I would have one of the best hand made brick oven pizzas in North Carolina but I did. It came out hot fresh and perfect to the bite. Cooked with hickory wood. (I had to ask) This is def. my type of place with the flip book selection of wonderful wonderful beer.
Off the hook pizza, beer, and service. Need I say more.
Family and I ate at the Mooresville location. Â The pizza was pretty good....it beats the standard pizza chains. Â The wood fired crust was nice and crispy and there are some good topping choices. Â The restaurant felt more like a bar and was pretty loud inside so it was hard to carry on a conversation with everyone at the table. Â You have to order at the bar which is a little weird but once that is taken care of the service was great.
Review Source:Easily among the best choices for food and beverages in the area. Â Salty Caper has a phenomenal craft beer selection with 8 taps and not a bad choice. Â The beer selection rotates regularly to keep a variety of styles available. Â Their real brick oven pizzas have a wide variety of toppings. Â The oven is visible from the bar. Â My only criticism, as others have pointed out, is a lack of seating inside due to the few bistro-style tables and seats at the bar. Â Most of the time this is likely not a problem but during weekend nights it can get rather packed. Â In the summer months an outdoor patio in back accommodates more seating as a relief valve during high traffic times.
Review Source:Cozy? Intimate? Spatially challenged? Yup. That however, Â is no reflection of the service or the food. It just gets a bit cramped in there. I'm no beer connoisseur and to my surprise they only serve tap. Not my thing. So, I guess I'll leave this place for the Y chromosomes and get take out. Their pizzas look amazing but I just stopped in for a drink. Next time I'm all about the pizza. To go...
Review Source:Pretty darn good, and unexpected for NC. Â The prosciutto pie was excellent, so delicious. Â The lover's pie was just okay, seemed a bit underdone. Â The dessert pie was silly, and tasted just okay. Â The service was slow but they seemed really busy. Â Nice outside atmosphere, very relaxed.
Review Source:There are three calazones on the menu. Â One is just cheeze, the other cheese and spinach, the last has cheese and prosciutto. Â I wanted meat and spinach, and they were able to accommodate me. Â Also, They have a nice wood fired pizza oven, but I've never had a deep fried calazone before, so I got one. Â It was crispy and yummy! Â I had a Abt 12 beer and Chimay (the last one was poured from a bottle). Â The total was over $30 for my 2 beers and the calazone, but I was satisfied!
Review Source:This is hands-down one of my favorite places in the universe. Fantastic food, great beers and awesome people.
12 taps of Craft and Belgian beers. No horse-piss swill. I'm fairly sure all of the employees are huge beer snobs, but not too condescending about it. There's also a great selection of bottles available.
Wood-fired oven pizzas and calzones with a variety of both traditional and more eclectic bases and toppings. They also make a sort of fried pizza dough breadstick (called sgabei) that comes with tomato and pesto sauces or topped with powdered sugar and chocolate sauce. Also available is a calzone stuffed with a candy bar of your choice and deep fried, which is exactly as delicious and excessive as it sounds.
They also have salads, topped with the same toppings they use on the pizzas. They're top notch too, but can quickly get expensive if you like lots of stuff on your salad.
The pizza is amazing!! They have all the usual toppings and often have interesting and delicious specialty pizzas. That is just the main course. They have awesome beers on tap and give samples to help you decide. To finish you off the fried candy bars sound gross but they are wonderful. Family friendly, Â fun environment. My only complaint is there are no changing tables. Go and Enjoy!
