A hole in the wall bar, but good service and all the locals love it there. Everyone looks like they know each other and usually the same people are always there. They dont get 5 star only couse some of the chairs are falling apart. But the service from Doc and Bonnie will make you feel like at home.
Review Source:Are you looking to surround yourself with angry, entitled, wanna be thugs, clad in baggy jeans and Tommy Hilfiger, looking for a fight? If so, look no further. Everyone in there seemed to know each other. Although I wondered if they were friends, cause they were all cussing and pushing one another. Haven't had that much fun since the last time I spent the night in jail. Seriously, if there were a bar in jail, this is exactly what it would be like. Never, ever, EVER, again.
Review Source:A friend who lives on the north end of Van Nuys wanted to go out for a few beers and suggested to me this spot. Â
I went up Woodman, under the railroad, and emerged, into the pitch industrial black of night at this joint, on the wrong side of the tracks, a place that looks like somewhere you would see on the evening news in connection with an assault or murder.
Fortunately, nothing like that happened here.
First, when I walked in, it was full of people. Fat people, sitting on stools, laughing and drinking. The Lakers were playing and the crowd was boisterous. I had never seen so many fat ladies in one bar, it was almost refreshing, as if all the bus stops in LA had cleared out and all the vacas negras were herded into this smoky room. The people were real, they were happy, there was no air of pomposity or snobbery. Â
We sat at the end, Andreas and me, and we ordered two beers which were served by a very affectionate female bartender. She was so touchy and warm and kind that she came out from behind the bar and nuzzled up to us with her hands and massages. She also hugged a lady from behind and told her how fat she had become, but it was all laughed off and part of the spirit of the place.
More guys came in, mostly younger, seemingly from the neighborhood, with jerseys and short hair and black mustaches and black stubble. Â The Lakers won by one point and everyone cheered.
I went to take a piss and was delighted to see that in this cultural wasteland, old Hollywood pin-up photos from the 1940s were plastered all over the walls. I doubt if anyone at the bar could recognize Veronica Lake or Lauren Bacall, but there they were inside the bathroom. Â Perhaps the owner is a friend of the late Vincente Minelli?
I had a good time here last night with a good friend and I would say that never have I come to a place so sad and forlorn and forgotten and left so happy and loved and remembered well as I did, last night, at The Scene.
Not only is this place local but they have the best scooby doo snacks made by Andrea or the Margaritas made Adele and not to mention the VT's made by Doc that are extremely deeelish! Just the right way with extra limes! Drinks are stiff and cheap! Great Atmosphere. Great vibes! Doc ,Bonnie and the staff make you feel very welcomed! Â Can't wait for FOOTBALL SUNDAYS here!
Review Source:This place is a ton of fun. The owners doc and Bonnie are great! If you want classy and quiet, this isn't the bar to consider. Lots of different people and lots of fun every time. I went on st Patrick's day one year and Bonnie had made a bunch of food and brought it in for the crowd of drunks. Pretty cool! Ask for their purple hooter shot :)
Review Source:One of the coolest local dive bars. Â The bartender, Doc, Â is a character. Â They've got darts, jukebox, a popcorn machine, tvs and kitchy things everywhere. Â The outside building looks like an oldtime saloon and It's in a pretty industrial area, not too much else nearby at night. Â If I lived closer, I'd go hang there a lot.
Review Source:The thing about The Scene is, there is NO ''scene'' here. Just like there is NO BARTENDER. Yes, people!
I came in last night around 10 to grab a cold one and me and my 2 friends waited at leaSt 15 minutes at the bar, and there WAS NO ONE TO SERVE US. WTF? Suuuuuper unprofessional. I did expect shitty service since it's on 'the ugly side' but still, no bartender? Â I wonder is this bar was BYOB. I didn't get the memo.
I wonder if the bartender was the old ass '' cougar '' outside with a thin white t-shirt and no bra, being cupped by this other '' manther '' right outside the bar. I can pretty much guess it was because she looked concerned about us leaving.
Never again will I come back to this spot.
Honestly the worst bar I have ever been to!!!
Bathroom is never clean.. dirty glasses everywhere
Doc is the worst !! and he is a  piece of shit as a owner/bartender
I was there the other night it took an half an hour to get a pitcher, another 15 minutes for my glasses for my pitcher and it took all night to get my card back from this asshole. doc try to charge me 25 dollars for a 10 dollar pitcher. I work hard for my money and Im also am a bartender and to go to this bar on my day off is a slap in my face and the friends I was with also said this is our last time going to this bar!!!
I moved to Los Angeles in September from Pittsburgh, PA, and I had been looking since then for a small, local bar that would make me feel at home. Â I searched in my area, but all I could come up with were drinks three times the prices I'm used to paying, unfriendly bartenders and ridiculous crowds.
And then my roommate found The Scene on Yelp, and everything changed. Â
I ventured into The Scene on a Sunday morning back in November for a Steelers game at my roommate's recommendation. Â And I immediately knew we had found something special.
Doc and Bonnie are the friendliest, most entertaining bartenders I have ever experienced. Â The drinks are shockingly cheap. Â They have NFL Sunday Ticket, so every game is on during the football season. Â Bonnie puts out a marvelous (and free!) BBQ spread during Sunday afternoon games. Â Doc is a lot of fun. Â He can be intimidating at first, but if you're a respectful patron, not a complete douche and come back to see them again, you'll get along just fine with him. Â
But the best part about this bar is its personality and extremely welcoming environment by both the regulars and the owners/bartenders. Â The first time I went there, everyone made an effort to ask me my name and get to know me. Â And by my second visit, I was welcomed as if I had been a regular for years.
The bar inside is pretty cozy. Â Dartboards and a jukebox. Â Free popcorn. Â Seating along the wall and plenty of seats at the bar. Â They don't have food, but plenty of bags of chips/pretzels/beef jerky to buy if you get hungry. Â I've mostly been there on Sundays for football, but I had the pleasure of sticking around last night for karaoke, and it was a blast.
All in all, this is my new go-to place in the area. Â When I can walk into a bar alone, feel completely welcomed and drink all day for $20, I consider it to be a great bar.
The Scene is just a damn great bar.
I like this spot a lot. Doc is really friendly always hooking people up with drinks. He gave my buddy a couple of free drinks because it was his first time, the people here are really friendly. The reason I give it four stars is because it is just a dingy dive bar, but awesome spot to hang out with friends
Review Source:Maybe I went on the wrong night when Doc decided to drink more than he probably does while behind the bar. Â As everyone mentions, the air is thick with secondhand smoke, and one scan of the room will tell you that they don't card anyone. Â (Yes, there were underage people at this bar.) Â Our experience ended around 3:30am (yes, last call doesn't exactly exist here, but not that it's a bad thing!) with Doc yelling obscenities and accusing us of ripping us off after he clearly overcharged us on our drinks. Â (Again, Doc was probably drinking more than usual that night.) Â This is a relatively inexpensive place to drink and they don't exactly serve Louis XIII, so I don't know how one person could have racked up an $85.00 tab. Â After attempting to kindly explain that there might have been an error and being called a (rhymes with maggot), I got a paperclip thrown in my face and that was my cue to exit the building. Â This bar has got loyal customers, so I'm sure I'll hear (read) my fair share of angered retorts, but that doesn't change one simple fact - I will not be returning to this establishment. Â Ever!
Review Source:Doc is awesome!! I was introduced by my older sister and her friends. Doc is the bartender as well as the owner. I have been going for about 4 years!!! Doc calls my sister and her friends his first regular costumers. He always treats us like family. Low key it's like cheers everybody knows each other!! Doc make the drinks hella strong and the best price ever!! And he always gives free shots to his ppl... We love him and bonnie they are the best ppl u can meet!!! It's a huge age difference of ppl that go there!! My mom loves doc and me and my sister go as well as my Lil brother he loves it. Everybody I have invited has enjoyed it to the fullest and continue to go!!!
Review Source:Things that I love about this place:
1) Doc and Bonnie (both owners and bartenders) are awesome! Â They really know how to treat their regulars. Â Yup, I'm one of them! Â :)
2) Drinks are strong and CHEAP! Â Yummy too. Â Ask Doc for a Sweet Tart shot. Â Or have him surprise you.
3) My friends(one of the is Cheryl M.) brought me here and when we come we ALWAYS have a good time.
4) Patrons here are always friendly.
5) There's a jukebox here that always plays all my favorite kind of music, but there is no dance floor.
6) Doc is all the entertainment you will ever need. Â He'll dance behind the bar and always make you smile.
1 star off for parking (because it's so small and sucks) and the smoking inside the bar, which I normally forget about after all the drinks. Â LOL Â I have to admit though that it hasn't stopped me from coming back. Â If you want to visit me, I'm normally here on Thursday nights. Â See yah there! Â :)
Oh my gosh gotta say I love this place!!! At first I was skeptical about this place seeing it from the outside but once inside it was such a good time. Doc has got to be one of the best bartenders I've had love his dancing!! The crowd was really friendly and laid back. The music seemed to get louder as the night went on which is fine by me. As for the drinks...strong,yummy and CHEAP!!! best combo....The only complaint I have is the parking...it's so small and even though it's on a main street you can't park from 10-5am...and the smoking is also not a fave but what can you do?? I also love the dollar bills and underwear on the top of the ceiling. Â I totally recommend this place for drinks and a fun laid back time!!
Review Source:Doc is the man! I came here with my girlfriend, the two of us trying to just get hammered the night before new years eve and boy Doc got us so so drunk that we where hung over all the way to the new year. I am not much of a smoker(never smoke) but by the end of the night they had me smoking and playing darts. my experience at the scene is very hazy but i am almost positive that my girlfriends bra ended up in the ceiling masterfully adding to the decor.
If you are looking for a place to drink and not worry about the crowd and stuffy people this is the place.
This is probably the friendliest bar I have been to in all of Los Angeles. I went there tonight to see the Laker game and everyone was having a good time. After the bartender had seen my ID she remembered my name for the rest of the time I was there. Another bonus was that the drinks were cheap and strong. Good company, service and drinks. I couldn't have asked for more.
Review Source:Where to begin.  Everything about this place is amazing except for 2 small issues that are holding the Scene back from truly being one of the greatest bars of all time. 1: No pool table  2: On the small side.  Both of these issues are tied together because you can't put a pool table in unless you have room.  That being said, it does not take anything away from the Scene.  Doc is a great bartender, the drinks are super cheap($3.00 domestic bottles,$10 pitchers, $5.00 corktails), and the place can get going on weekends.  Weekdays are pretty mellow, but they have dart tournaments, and other random ish going down constantly.  If your looking for a place to chill out with a couple of friends and watch a game, or its just been a long day and you don't feel like drinking at home and confiding in your cat for the third time in three days, then the Scene is the perfect spot to toss a few back.  There is a little parking lot in front that fills up quick, but plent of spaces on the adjacent steets.  Be sure not to park on the street in front because you will get a ticket after 10. Cheers.
Review Source:If you're looking for a dive bar where you can drink cheap, watch the game, and SMOKE A MILLION CIGARETTES, you have found the right place!! The Scene has 10+ HD flat screens, AND NFL Ticket! So..great place to watch any game, if you're not asthmatic!:
I don't smoke...cough cough..
*Super nice regulars- they actually bought my husband and I drinks for simply moving 2 bar stools down! Good atmosphere, friendly people and lots and lots of tv's so you're sure not to miss ANY game!!
After driving around for what seemed to be hours around the valley, a friend I was rolling with suggested that we come back to The Scene as he liked the overall atmosphere. We came down to chill before we headed to our real destination.
The place holds this amazing feel to it. I wouldn't say that it was packed, but it had enough people where it was quite ambient, yet you had enough privacy to hold your own. We sat in front of the bar, enjoyed our drinks, had a couple of life revelations, then headed our way. The atmosphere is amazing as you feel you could easily connect with the fellow scencesters while at the same time you can choose to hold together with the group of people you're with. It's also a place you can come down by yourself after work or after-party celebrations. I highly recommend for those that aren't too picky and such.
Time warp time.......
Doc and I go back and i really mean way back. He used to be one of the main bartenders along with Pauly, Danny, and Michael @ Barneys Beanery on Santa Monica. I used to pretty much live there from Wed - Sat cause it was always fun.
Doc bought a little dive bar in NoHo that has been around for over 40yr's and along with it came some old timers that are just pure entertainment. The Scene is a small bar located in an industrial area of Noho with roughly 10 parking spots and there is street parking until 10pm.
Once you walk in, Doc and the locals treat you like family. The bar area has about 8-10 stools and there are about 3 booths to sit at. He has a dart board up and a juke box for your listening pleasures. You want gourmet food? (sarcasm) Doc will sell you a bag of fritos or whatever chips he has available hanging behind the bar.
Drinks? are extremely strong and will knock your ass off. The prices are very reasonable. My Belvedere & tonic ran less than $8 a piece i believe. Since Doc has been in the business for over 20yrs, he can pretty much make any drink you want. Â If you are looking for a bar to chill at and have a sarcastic ass and funny conversation with the bartender or locals, this is the place for you.
A great neighborhood bar. The owners, Doc and Bonnie, are awesome and very generous. It's a really good place to bring friends; very cheap and you can actually hear each other talk. They've got a ludicrous amount of flatscreen TVs for a dive so if you're into the sports thing they've got you covered. I should probably also mention the karaoke Saturdays. It's really fun and you can usually sing as many times as you want.
Review Source:doc the owner is a really cool. low key bar. the roof is lined with one dollar bills that everyone has signed. sports on tv 24/7 and 366...funny things placed all over the walls. the linoleum floor is kinda cool... someone inside always buys a round of drinks... they have a coin-op valley electronic dartboard... good place to play darts.... locals are very competitive...drinks are cheap!!!! i bring friends and all my friends love this place.
