I come to this area roughly twice a year and finding some decent chow can be quite a challenge. Â Especially once tourist season dies down. Â One genre that seems to hold it's own is bar food. Â Somehow burgers and deep fried food is hard to mess up and everyone seems to like the stuff.
Enter Schooners. Â This little place is located in downtown Hart and the exterior doesn't really draw a whole lot of attention. Â Inside is this great old school type bar. Â There is a room off to the side with a stage so I suppose they have live bands there on the weekend. Â My freind and I were here for the food so we got some fried cheese curds, burgers and beer. Â Menu itself was pretty standard, burgers, fried foods, salads, sandwiches, etc.
Now I'm not gonna get into too much detail over this. Â Burger was nicely done, fries were the seasoned fried variety, cheese curds were not really breaded cheese curds, more like breaded cubes of cheese, but not bad all the same. Â Waitress was freindly although just a touch distracted. Â Place just had the atmosphere of a friendly neighborhood tap that I could get used to.
Parents with kids were observed coming into this place so bring the rug rats, apparently it's cool.
We went into Schooners for their all you can eat shrimp special they have on Friday & Saturday nights. Â We paid about $16 for this and I would say it was OK. Â You could choose between deep fried popcorn shrimp and/or boiled shrimp. Â Service was good here and they kept the shrimp coming. Â I wish the deep fried shrimp were the typical sized battered butterfly shrimp but for all you can eat I guess I can't complain too much.
The beer is cold and they have a good selection of domestics and imports. Â They also have a pretty decent jukebox although you have to keep feeding it unless someone else does.
