Wednesday nite visit with friends-who live in OG. Â Had scallops app very good, oysters ( breaded) w tarter sauce homemade was good. Â Tuna tartar ok too much sesame oil overpowered the tuna.
Mixed review of mussels
Entree's: crab cakes excellent with little filler and subtle flavor delish.
Avg version of egg plant parm but not real Italian. Â
Soft shell crab special had very overwhelmingly clumsy sweet sauce sent back  server was good remade w/o sauce was better w/o sauce, better crunch
Over all service was good.
After being turned away at Klein's on Mother's Day, because we had a small dog, my family then decided to go to Ocean Grove because we knew they are dog friendly. Sea Grass went above and beyond to celebrate this Mother's Day. The food was fantastic and the service was just as wonderful. They were sweet to our dog. I ate some of the best fish with a spicy coconut curry sauce and my brother was able to find a delicious steak on the menu because he does not eat seafood. Overall, I suggest everyone to go to Sea Grass. Wonderful atmosphere.
Review Source:My wife summed it up best when she said, "This isn't just good food. This is great food".
Warm calamari salad over greens in a lemon vinaigrette? Superb!
And--a rockin' lobster BLT to $17? Heaven!
Great knowledgeable staff. Don't wait until Summer cause everyone knows its the best place in town.
So disappointed. Totally bland and starchy/gummy clam chowder. No flavor. Asked four times for bread. Finally got as I was just finishing a bowl of bland fishy mussels. No flavor,no garlic,no spark!!! Â Salt, pepper , lemon didn't help. Husband had a cod entree. Came cold and bland w bland mashed sweet potatoes. Â Sad meal. Â Would not recommend. Â Although we had nice waitress. Â Despite never getting any bread to dip In mussels until ready to leave. Â Just sad that a 'chef' can't give flavor to food.
Review Source:On a recent  vacation  to OG, I ate  lunch at  Sea Grass and  had an incredible Flat Iron Steak Salad.  Yup  I'm  back  eating  meat .  Huge  salad and delicious but  they didn't give me  any  bread and I looked over at the  other  tables and they didn't have bread  either.  The  salad  was  not  cheap and  my bill with an iced tea and tip was $21.  The service was  good.  Serving  bread or  crackers is  something  that Sea Grass needs  to do.  This is an upscale restaurant and this "over sight" needs to be  promptly  changed.
Review Source:I went on the Yelpers suggestions and had the Lobster BLT with potato salad. Very friendly service. Nice little outdoor seating area. My mother loved the crab cake sandwich. Perfect portions for lunch. My only complaint was their ice tea, which I didn't care for. But that seems to be a lot of places outside the south that can't pull off a good unsweetened tea. :)
Review Source:Visited Sea Grass for the first time on a Sunday night. Arrived around 5:45 and was seated right way. If we came a half hour to a hour later there would have been a slight wait. Â Its a small place but you get plenty of attention.
My friend and I got 3 courses. For appetizer we got the lamp pops (chops) and ahi tuna tartar. Both were not huge but very tasty and worth the price. The lamb was cooked perfect and had a delicious sauce. The tuna tartar was good quality and the addition of avocado slices was a good idea.
Dinner was the seafood pasta which was excellent and more than enough to fill you up. Not skimping on seafood either. I would recommend it. My friend got the ahi tuna and mashed potatoes. I stole a bite of the tuna which was cooked good and the seasoning was well balanced.
Dessert was hard to fit but we got the carrot cake and chocolate lava cake. Nothing over top but a sweet way to end a good dinner. Dessert prices were very reasonable, under $10, so I would recommend trying them.
Service was great and quick. All the food came out quick and hot. Old plates were cleared fast and were checked on to see how our meal was just enough times but not too many times to be annoying. Â I went with 4 stars because it was not extravagant and lavish but still excellent. I cant wait to find a reason to go back. Two people and 3 courses each just hit $100 which was reasonable for the high quality of food, service and atmosphere. A good treat.
I really liked this place. Came on Friday evening, didn't have a reservation, but was seated immediately outside. Started with the calamari appetizer which was about average but the portion was way too big for just us 2. I then had the seared scallop with Risotto and hubby got the swordfish. Absolutely yummy! My dish had 6 good sized scallops cooked to perfection and super sweet and fresh. Again portion was huge! The service was a little delayed but the server was really nice and sweet about it. It's also a byo! Overall a good value considering the freshness and portions. Would definitely revisit in the future.
Review Source:My family summers in this area, and I went to Lunch there in July, and dinner last night. Pros: fresh seafood. At lunch get the Lobster roll, served on brioche bread. For dinner I had the seafood and pasta, brimming with Lobster, shrimp, scallops...Amazing!
Cons. Inside room gets noisy at dinner no sound absorbing materials....carpet, ceiling, etc
I highly recommend this place, best part you can bring your own wine, and Beer yaaaa
Came for dinner with my boyfriend after a day at the beach. Both of us were in bathing suits and coverups- but we were seated w no hassle.
Service was slow and the the food took a long time. We ordered soups and three appetizers- nothing that should have taken the over half hour it did.
Soup was pretty good. Calamari was ok- though the bf would have liked a red sauce. Hummus plate had nice fixings- but  hummus itself seemed pre packaged. Lamb pops were disappointing. Overall not impressed.
Didn't try an entree- but don't plan on coming back to find out.
I have been vacationing in OG for years and always dine here. Just got back and as usual fantastic! Great friendly staff efficient service, a rare fine dining gem in a tiny seaside resort.
The tempura calamari with ginger dipping sauce is so delicious its addictive and the size is massive share it. It's a twist on a classic.
The salmon with roasted fennel was fresh and an unexpectedly delicious combination. Friends a had scallops and were happy. Even though I don't eat mussels I tried the broth with some crusty bread and it was excellent.
The menu features seafood and some lovely appetizers and creative salads. It's not a huge menu but something for everyone. There are chops and pasta as well, but the seafood is exceptional.
They replenish the excellent crusty bread that is served with whipped herbed butter upon request. It's a BYOB so a lovely meal with appetizer can be had for about $35 a head including tip.
There is outside seating and the dining room is a lively sleek modern vibe.
We visited Sea Grass on a Sunday afternoon in August. Â It was a great meal, and it was nice being able to sit outside as they offer sidewalk seating. Â
I went with the Blackened Tilapia ($10), and my co-diners had the crispy chicken salad ($12) and the Lobster BLT ($16). Â My dish was very good, and they both reported their's as being excellent. Â In addition, I had a cup of the clam chowder, which was top notch. Â All the dishes were reasonably priced for lunch as mentioned.
Pros - Great food, good atmosphere, reasonable prices. Â
Cons - not much to report on - they ran out of the Pulled Pork which looked really good, but I guess that is why they ran out of it. Â In addition, it took a few minutes before they sat us, Â even with an open table waiting for us, as they didn't seem to have an actual outdoor host/hostess.
It was our first visit, but definately will not be our last!
Sea Grass converted me to a seafood fanatic with the first bite of that Hawaiian butterfish summer of '10. My friends and I visit once a year during our annual girls' weekend to Asbury Park. This year, I had the Alaskan Halibut with lobster burre blanc and pea&asparagus risotto, and it was the best thing I've ever tasted, and I wish I were exaggerating - I'm mad because this place is 5 hrs from my house!
My friends ordered the crab cakes, salmon, chilean sea bass, Italian sausage pasta... every plate was clean.
We split the coconut shrimp with black raspberry sauce, fried oysters, and sea scallops with Jersey tomatoes... and for dessert the apple galette, key lime pie, chocolate lava cake, and creme brulee.
BYOB from Lush - a phenomenal wine bar in Asbury.
The mood of the restaurant is fun, fresh, and hip without trying too hard. It's always packed, but tables turn over smoothly. Service has always been excellent - my friend has a gluten allergy and they brought out the corn flour they use to deep-fry the oysters.
Apps, dinner, dessert, and tip was $46 per person. Unbeatable.
Sea Grass has a wonderful ambiance about it. The outdoor seating is lovely fits perfectly into the cute town and the smell of the ocean air. We had the homemade potato chips and cheese dip....that was so good, yummy & amazing: yet so bad (health wise)., The waitress was extremely helpful and attentive. We had steak, crab cakes, and cod. The crab cakes were tasty I just wish it had more of a crispy crust on the outside. Steak was ok. The cod was good. Dessert was delicious we had a brownie with coffee ice cream. When my baby happened to get sick during dinner, our waitress went above and beyond for us bringing us club soda paper towels etc. It's not all the time you find staff so attentive and helpful at establishments. I am definitely looking forward to returning to Sea Grass.
Review Source:We went to the Sea Grass on a Wednesday evening so we did not have to deal with the typical weekend beach crowd. The food was absolutely delicious and our waitress was nice and attentive. While a little bit on the pricey side, the amount of food we received and great flavor justified the cost. We've added the SeaGrass to our list of must-go places for our annual trip to Ocean Grove.
Review Source:The restaurant is cute and located on the main strip in Ocean Grove. We got a table right away on a Sunday night during Memorial Day weekend so maybe I should have known better right there. The service was subpar. Initially the waitress was very nice and then her service just dropped off as she spent more time hobnobbing w who I can only assume were regulars. The coconut shrimp app was greasy and I've had better at Red Lobster. Ordered the crab cake "special" and the side dish was corn out of can with some diced tomatoes for $27. The cakes themselves were fine but I've had better and ultimately left hungry.
I would not recommend this restaurant at all. With all the great seafood at the shore, do yourself a favor and go elsewhere.
I have been a summer resident of the Bradley beach area for four years and discovered Sea Grass last year. My boyfriend and I both think it is excellent. Â
First, you know I love a good BYO, which is a plenty in this area of the shore. Sea Grass always has plenty of seating outside, and accomodates your pets should you bring them. Â
I have never, in all of my 20+ visits, ever had a problem with the service. This is a rare fact in OG where service generally tends to be quite terrible - slow and understaffed. the waitstaff is friendly and courteous. Â I am a vegetarian who will eat the fish and I have to say that all of the fish dishes I have tried were excellent. My favorite is the grouper. My meat eatin' boyfriend has tried every one of the animals offered at Sea grass and has never complained.
This is a shore treat.
In honor of back to school: Math
6 people ate at Sea Grass.
1/3 of the diners ordered fish as their main course
1/6 ordered duck
1/3 ordered steak
1/6 ordered chips and broccoli
Q: How many diners got sick after eating here?
A: All of them.
It would be my advice to Sea Grass to spend less time and money trying to turn their restaurant into a fish themed art gallery and spend more time on making sure their food isn't disgusting and illness inducing. The fact that they can't even half way properly execute fish and chips is a sign that they're doing something horribly, horribly wrong here. Even DOGS wouldn't eat the leftover steak. Dogs eat poop. Come on.
It would also behoove the staff to work on their service. A 30 minute wait for 2 salads and a mussels appetizer is absolutely unacceptable. But that didn't matter. Because they took the liberty of adding 20% gratuity to our check anyway.
Horrible Food+Horrible Service=Horrible Restaurant
This restaurant recently had a remodel and changed names, from Captain Jacks to Sea Grass. Our waiter told us the chef is the same, and the menu is virtually unchanged.
The updated decor is hip, with bright colors and there is a cool, big aquarium. A bit trendy and cold in feeling for our taste, but not terrible.
We were seated promptly, but didn't get a great table, and couldn't quite get our waiter to understand that a 'window' seat means sitting right next to the window, which we could have done. He was nice enough, but yet another young waiter in a resort town.
House made potato chips and cheese dip was delicious, although the chips seemed to soften far too quickly. The fried oysters, were bland and the batter tasted of old fry oil. Not recommended. On the plus side, our ahi tuna has very nice, could have used more wasabi 'cream' though. Nice seaweed salad with it. Also came with guacamole and tortilla chips, which was slightly odd, but tasty. Salad of pear and ricotta salata and craisins  on mixed greens was delicious, although one of us felt the craisins were superfluous.
Our friends had the Soy and Ginger Glazed Atlantic Salmon, which they preferred to the Ahi Tuna.
My Pelligrino came in a champagne bucket, which gave us a good laugh.
We were not given bread, and when we asked for some, were given copious amounts of chips in substitution. (they were out of bread).
