The See-Zurh (some times called Shaggy's) is hands down the best restaurant in Bemis Point, New York.
It's a super casual no frills place that a lot of people go to for a drink at the bar, but it has a complete menu along with daily specials, top notch service and, over all, it's just a fun place be at. The crowd consists of both locals and tourists, but most of the tourists go to over priced places with far worse food and horrid service like the Italian Fisherman because it is located on the water (Lake Chautauqua).
I've been to the See-Zurh countless times over the last several decades and have never been disappointed. They have excellent burgers and their aged rib eye steak is superb. Best of all, the food and the drinks are reasonably priced.
By way of background, the See-Zurh house was originally started by two locals Don See and Zurh Faulkner. Due to illness and advanced age, Zurh Faulkner and then Don See retired and the business was purchased by Thom Shagla. In earlier years Thom was a local hell raiser whose parents owned the Apple Inn in Fluvanna. In his early twenties, while working construction jobs and going to the local CC, Thom started doing vigilante work against Jr. High deviants, etc. It was enough to get him elected Mayor of Bemus Point and to become an upstanding business owner (aside from affairs with babysitters, etc.).
Where were we? Oh yeah, so the See-Zurh house was operating in its former life as a venerable local saloon with pretty cheap drinks and an occasional fish fry -- when the dining room was open (after 7 PM. or whatever it was Slim Jims and Beer Nuts). Armed with a serious amount of chutzpah, Shagla purchased the See-Zurh house about 15 years ago and has actually done a credible job of unleashing its potential given the size of the place, location (especially in Summer months) and # of serious drinkers in the area. For whatever reason, in spite of proximity, the Jamestown area seemed to be far removed from Buffalo and its wings, Beef on Weck, etc. Shagla changed that and has passable food -- drink prices have gone up (duh!?!, no, I'm saying they've really outpaced inflation) from the old See-Zurh house days but that's part of the chutzpah.
Drink up!
