We were in the area with friends for the weekend and were looking for a casual place to eat with good food that also happened to be kid-friendly. We ended up at Ashville General Store, and it was fantastic! The building is a combination general store and very casual restaurant, and when we were there, several other groups were eating in as well. There were also lots of fun stuff for kids to do-- coloring books, crayons, etc., which was really nice.
We ended up trying the Hawaiian pizza and everything wings, which are chicken wings covered in a sauce composed of all of the other sauces-- ranch, honey mustard, BBQ, you name it. The wings were, in a word, phenomenal. Easily the best wings I've ever had! The pizza was a little less enticing. We still ate the entire thing, but it probably could have used a few more minutes in the oven. The crust in particular was rather doughy and undercooked. Otherwise, though, an enjoyable lunch for both adults and kids, and a neat little local business!
A country store done right.
I look forward to coming home to Ashville, If only for the food. Â here you will find a-mazing white pizza the Ashville General, and Beef on Wick. Â
In the rennovated Agway buidling, the store keeps the best of the local businesses of long ago, penny candy, old fashioned booths, and kitch,
The address is listed wrong above, it's 15 E Main St, Ashville, close to the blinking light.
Stop in. Â Enjoy the best of what Ashvile (and Lakewood for that matter) has to offer.
Thanks to Jackie Francis (owner) for making this place worth the visit.
I am new to these parts and I am definetly on the lookout for great places to eat. I had gone to the Starbucks and the Baristo told me I must go try out the food at this place. He told me that when he moved to Virginia he had dreams of the food from this place! So I said 'Let me try it'.
I looked it up online, they have a website: <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ashvillegeneralstore.com&s=2074af5067f71e54673d5e302931e0f95bd516c6a749cffd5bb969a1bcc0bd25" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.ashvillegener…</a> Â
Their address 4844 Route 474, Ashville, NY 14710 and I used it in my GPS and it got me there fine. Yelp gives a different address, but I know Lakewood and Ashville are right next to each other so I guess both addresses would work.
Okay, so I went in there at like 9ish and I already fell in like with it because it has a very old town small look and feel to it that is very original. I'm from Bergen County NJ, you don't have anything like that there.
I ordered 6 piece wings with Honey Mustard sauce and Turkey Sizzler Pita. I had to wait like maybe 20 minutes but it was fine, I got a chance to read the Chautauqua Star and catch up on what's going on around here.
When my food was finally ready, the guy came out and gave me the bag...and said "Here you go dear, enjoy". He is like 18, but he was very kind.
I got home and finally sat down to eat and was happily surprised. I ate half of the food and felt satisfied with the portion. So I get to enjoy the rest of it later!
When my fiance comes to visit me in December, I am glad there is a place I can take him to so he can enjoy food he doesnt get to enjoy while in the Navy.
I am definetly going back, I just can't go back as much as I would like since I don't want to gain 30 pounds! I have a wedding in December :p
Try It Out!
