Oh sweet dear Sharkeys!!! I went on a mini vacay with friends to Port A and we all were looking for a place to bump and grind for the night. We asked a few locals and they all said Sharkeys; Sharkeys is the place to be. Honestly, it was the place to be! It was just what we needed for an awesome night! The drinks were priced well ($3-$8)and the music was great. They played a lot of hip hop, some 80's rocks, a little country, and just about all the line dances known to mankind. The enviorment was very beach frat/college..ish. It's a great place for anyone looking for a good night after tanning in the hot sun all day! Super fun and flirty, definately recommended!

That's how you know the dance floor is about to be off the chain. Â On the teeny island of Port A, this little hillbilly oasis of missing teeth, unkempt mullets, fork-poked tattoos and crackle-crunchy skin, this is Class of '86 catching-up heaven. And you cannot look away. There's no telling how many unplanned pregnancies and years of jailtime can be counted among this graduated crew, but let me tell you what: they can party. Stanky Legging it, two-stepping it, butt-to-grounding it. And we partied right the hell with them.
ON THE STAGE. There is a stage people. Don't go thinking that that's where all the fun is though: please look carefully all around you at ALL TIMES. You do not want to miss it when that girl's panties are danced right down her disoriented - and willing - body. Please also look intently for Glow Sticks Guy, who, I was assured by friends, has been there every year since the beginning of glow sticks. He may have invented glow sticks. This guy probably made a killing with his brilliant invention, and dances it out every night at Sharkey's to celebrate eternally.
Do not go to Port A and not go to Sharkey's. It is wrong and irresponsible of you. Just as God hates all sinners, God especially loathes those who do not go to document the Sharkey's sin to discuss later with friends for years to come.
Went to Sharky's last year on our annual girls trip and had a blast. Â This year, not so much. Â It was pretty much a let down. Â We went on a Friday night at 11p and it was us and maybe a handful of others. Â Music wasn't as good as I remember and the over all vibe just didn't do it for me this year. Â One of the bartenders mentioned that the Port A police had made it a habit of pulling over people right as leaving Sharky's so people stopped going. Â Wasn't impressed. Â I would however give it one more try next year....it has lots of potential! Â They do have wonderful wait staff!
Review Source:I came here for New Year's Eve. I'm told the crowd was pretty dismal, but even so we still had a great time.
This place is huge. I was told we were going to a "dive" bar and when I walked in the front door it was exactly as I had expected. Writing all over the walls, bras hanging from surfboards and other knick knacks along the ceiling, as well as a few pool tables and a bar to belly up to.
We then went through another set of double doors which opened up to a HUGE room with tons of seating and a stage for live music (no live music the evening I was there).
Unfortunately they were understaffed the evening I came here. The bartender at the back bar was completely overwhelmed and had a complete bimbo assisting her. I saw her list 10 So-Co and limes individually on a ticket...... Ever heard of tally marks? or 10 @ etc? I was speechless when I saw her do that... Either way, we still had fun. Looking forward to checking this place out in the summer when it's more happening.
I love me some Sharkey's !!!
Girls weekend found us at Sharkey's last Friday night. We walked in about 10pm and the place was DEAD. By 11pm the place was really hoppin'/swinging/jumpin' .. whatever you wanna call it.
I've been visiting Sharkey's for the last 20 years. it's always a trip! Always count on a bachelorette party (or this time a bachelor party); the guy with the glow stick and the hula hoop guy.
I don't drink beer and i think they are pretty stingy with the liquor in mixed drinks, so stick to shots. At least you get the full power of those.
It's a great 'dance club', pool playing, hanging out, kinda place. They play all types of music including a tiny bit of country. Mostly they play music that makes you want to get up and DANCE ! DANCE I SAID!!
Drunk guys, drunk girls, old guys, mature women, 20's somethings, locals and tourists ... they all LOVE Sharkey's !!!
I wish that folks could cut down on the smoking ... leaves your clothes and hair stinky !
This place is pretty much as good as it gets in Port A, if you want a variety of drinks, pool, cold beer, a jukebox, and a big underground dancefloor, with DJ, and another back bar.
Expect it to not start hopping some nights until 11 or 12 when people get their second wind from hanging out on the beach.
I've been to Sharkey's twice, and had an AMAZING time both trips. Â This place is HILARIOUS - come as you are. Â You will a range of people, from those wearing Crocs, to girls dressed up all slutty-like.
They have three areas at Sharkey's - the outside deck, which does not look like it has any bar or servers (but I'm sure you could bring drinks out there), the main floor bar area which has some pool tables, juke box, etc, and the basement. Â The basement is where fun really happens - it is huge! Â There is a good sized dance floor, two large bars, a bunch of pool tables, and a stage. Â "What is the stage used for?" you might ask. Â Well, nothing official, that I could tell, but I will say that both times I visited (over a year apart), the same exact guy (short, chubby, wearing a Hawaiian shirt and backwards cap) was standing up there, alone, sadly twirling glow sticks. Â He was not good at the glow stick twirling, nor did it make him look happy - so bizarre. Â We found out his name was Richard, and promptly took a photo with him. Â
The best thing to do at Sharkey's is dance - they play mostly hip hop type dance music (top 40 stuff), but every now and then they will play a few country songs for everyone to two step to - I'm a fan of this.
The only reason I took off a star is because bar service was insanely slow! Â Definitely go upstairs to the main bar to get your drinks instead of fighting through the crowds in the basement.
I'm not sure what was going on last night, but the place was dead. The girls I was with said this place is normally packed on Sat nights. I met some cuties from Houston and they bought a few rounds, so I gave it another star. They didn't have a DJ, so the player was shuffling between tracks and it sounded terrible. On any other given night, it looks like this place packs out. I will update my review on our next "port a" trip.
