Apparently this place has undergone a make-over with significant changes. It is now just called "Southside Grill and Cantina". Boasting a new menu, new chef, new concept and yada yada yada. I don't know what it was like before, since this was our first trip to McCall. I liked what we experienced.
Seems to be a mix of South of the Border flavors with American menu items as well. Kind of an interesting concept, but what the hey... I'm game. Â I had the lighter version of Carne Asada. I was impressed, they actually used flank steak. Rather risky since an overcooked flank steak can be tough as shoe leather. I ordered med-rare and that's what I got. The plate came with grilled fresh veggies (they say are locally supplied by local growers (I like that). Side salad was nice fresh local greens. All the veggies were quite good. The red potatoes were the bomb! My Carne Asada came with a nice chimichurri sauce, as it should. The meat wasn't overly seasoned, it was just right. Very tender, and just really good flavor. Pretty close to authentic in my experience ( I had Carne Asada in Columbia... it was amazing) Good tortillas that tasted fresh made.
Service: well... it's like this. There had been some drinking before we all went here. We were a large party of 13 or 15 people. A couple of our group were rather  loud and obnoxious (some might call it entertaining). I'm reasonably certain staff was thinking this was going to be a nightmare. They didn't miss a beat. They were professional, timely, helpful and eager to serve. We apologized for our compatriots as we left, and the staff pretty much blew it off like it was nothing. Well played :-) I think they breathed a collective sigh of relief after we all left. I know I was drained.
So props to them for putting up with a large, loud, potentially obnoxious, mixed group of hungry diners. AND doing it with grace and in a timely fashion. I'm impressed with how much food came out of that little kitchen space.
I would definitely go back.
