Silver Creek Beer Garden seems like an awesome place no matter what time of day you decide to go. Â We were passing through Fredericksburg around lunch time and stopped. Â There was a man playing and singing country favorites on the patio. Â He was quite good. Â I would like the see the talent that comes in the evenings or on the weekends.
I had the reuben plate, which was good. Â And a good German beer! Â
Nice beer selection, but I wish more beers were on tap.
On our vacation get away to the charming little quaint Fredericksburg, the hotel front desk attendant suggested we try this restaurant as we were looking for a place with a patio to enjoy the beautiful summer night. She mentioned that there is also live entertainment as well which definitely perked my ears up, coming from the live music capitol of the world where live music should be a staple at every outdoor dining establishment in my opinion. Upon arriving to the restaurant which is off of Main St., you can hear the live music a block away with the great acoustics that the patio provides. This restaurant is located in a house that is set back a few feet from the road which provides the front seating area. The tables are definitely close together, so make sure you're not talking about personal topics that you wouldn't want your neighbor knowing. Since this was a Sunday evening, I'm surprised that the patio was full and they had 3 different acts rotating for a few hours. I think it was open mike night, but I'm not sure. Either way, they all sounded great and only added to the relaxing ambiance. BTW, this is one of the few restaurants on Main that actually stays open past 8:00pm which is an added bonus in this town.
My partner and I gorged ourselves on German food, but of course since we don't get the opportunity to do so in Austin due to limited options. He ordered the German sausage plate which comes with grilled bratwurst, knackwurst, and pepperwurst sausage with delicious rustic mashed potatoes and red cabbage. This plate is huge, so make sure you come with a large appetite! I sampled everything he had and it was very delicious! My entree was the Bavarian Jaeger Schnitzel which was topped with a mushroom sauce, and served with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. The meat was tender, but I'm glad it had the sauce to give the meat some moisture and flavor. This possibly was the sourest sauerkraut I've ever had. I loved it, but just be prepared to make those puckered lips and arched eyebrows like you just sucked on a lemon. We split a side order of spatzle which was super delicious! Make sure you try these fried German dumplings! The dinners we ordered were reasonably priced at $12.50 Â for such a large portion of delicious food which made us happy after buying lots of wine earlier in the day. Overall, it was definitely a great relaxing fun dinner and I would definitely come here again the next time we're in town.
We stopped here for a pretty late lunch after touring a local winery. The outdoor patio is awesome, and it was packed the previous night, so we were excited to try it. However, they serve no food until 5pm. What?!?! I saw numerous customers leave when they walked in and found this out. They have a full dinner menu (though it does not look very impressive), so they are clearly not considering their customers. Maybe capitalizing on the most profitable item/s--alcohol? I wouldn't go back.
Review Source:Went here on a Friday night with a group of 7. Â We were seated right away and had wine in our hands shortly after! Â The server was very nice and even at the end of the meal split our checks. Â I had the buttermilk fried quail and it was really good. Â It was fried just enough, but not so much that the meat inside was dry. Â It came with corn, potatoes, and gravy all of which complimented the quail nicely. Â Several others ordered steak that was tasty as well.
Overall this is a great place for friendly and fast service!
Took the family for dinner while on spring break. We were seated right away on the patio where Quincy Harper was playing live. The weather was absolutely perfect for dining outside and listening to some good tunes. Our waitress' name was Kendall and she was very attentive and knowledgeable. I had a spaten Oktoberfest and my wife had a glass of house cab. The beer and wine selection was very good. For an appetizer we had the Brie which was wrapped in phyllo dough and served with a creamy tomato sauce. I would say that it was good but not great. The wife and kids really liked it though. My wife and I ordered the braised pork shank to share but we were a little too late; they had just run out. We decided to have the pork medallions with mashed potatoes and asparagus. It was very good. The pork was tender enough to cut with a fork and the sweet sauce that it was served with complemented it well. My son had the jaeger schnitzel and it was excellent as well. The sauerkraut was perfect, not too tangy and not too sweet. The mushroom gravy was great. I would order it in a heartbeat. The grand finale was the bread pudding. The maple and bourbon favors were rocking. Â I think there was a stick of butter in our serving alone but wow was it good. Bread pudding is one of my all time favorite desserts; while this was not the best I've ever had I would definitely order it again. Too many people let their bread pudding get spongy and dry while this was moist and perfectly dense. We will certainly be back when we make it to Fredericksburg again.
Review Source:We drove all the way to Fredericksburg, and Lindenbaum was closed for Urlaub.
It's so typical of German people thing, like summer holiday close or Christmas & New Year Days close.
They are closing their stores or restaurants not for a day, for 2 weeks usually!
Silver Creek Beer Garden on Main St was a perfect choice for us. We were going to have Texas bbq for dinner, wanted to have quick snack and beer.
A musician was playing on the porch is always inviting. The restaurant was well decorated, meaning lots of German stuffs on the wall and all.
Our waitress was not a German, she was very friendly. The beer list here was long, need time to study. I didn't want to read all, ordered Hefeweizen, kinda summer beer in winter. My beer came in a Spaten glass!
Wurst platter was sooo good. The best Wurst I had outside of Germany.
I lived in Germany for 12 years, I know my Wurst. It was better than Alpine Village or Wusrtkuche in LA, or Student Prince in MA.
Good beer with excellent Wurst brought me back to my German days..
We wanted some Rotkohl or Sauerkraut or something.
Nice waitress told us, Wurst was the only thing we can get now.
The kitchen opens at 5PM sharp! Wow!
The Sauerkraut usually comes with the Wurst, they store them in a large pot,
you just scoop them in a plate..
No.
Germans keep their rules.
I've been to Sliver Creek a  few times on each of my trips to Fredericksburg.  The bar is a nice chill spot to relax on the afternoons.  In the evenings you're likely to find live music on their front patio. I like this because you don't have many late night options on the main street.
I've no complaints with the service I've received  here either.  Of the few times I was here, I only had food once.  I can personally  vouch for the braised pork shank.  It was delicious!  So if that's any indication of the other items, you are probably in good hands here.  Along with this, they also have a very decent draft beer selection to choose from.
If you're looking for something convenient and relaxed or if you're wanting to enjoy some night life after 10pm, definitely check this place out.
Appetizer:
Fried Brie with Shrimp Tomato Cream Sauce: Surprisingly good! It tasted delish on the crackers they brought out.
Entrees:
Fried Catfish: Was good. Restaurants should not mess up on this. Asparagus was seasoned well and grilled to the right crunchiness.
Chicken Fried Steak: Was okay. Steak was a bit bland.
Atmosphere:
Great live music!! The guitarist sang folksy/country songs that everyone appreciated.
Servers:
Friendly staff who refilled drinks and brought food out in a timely manner.
Overall, hubbie and i really enjoyed our meal. Much better (and cheaper!) experience than our dinner the night before.
Why why whyyyyy did I have to wait at the bar for fifteen minutes to close by tab? All the while, one of the employees behind the bar was just standing there looking at me blankly while all the other bartenders were slammed. I later found out this was the owner. Nice.
I find it hard to believe the owner couldn't have closed my tab out for me, but if he couldn't, perhaps even a "Sorry, they'll be right with you" or any acknowledgment would have been nice. It took me longer to to close my tab than it did to drink my beer.
There are too many other bars and restaurants in Fredericksburg with friendlier service.
The food here was ok. I had a steak salad and it's hard to mess that up. But the service was VERY bad. We asked to be seated at another table which was empty. The waiter never followed back up with us. We reminded him of our request and he still never followed back up with us.
There are MUCH better places to eat in Fredericksburg. Don't waste your time or money here.
I'm sad I didn't get the waitresses name, because she was quite the character. She made sure we were always satisfied, and also managed to put a smile on my face every time she came around.
It's silly, but I loved the drink menus on the patio tables. They were so colorful and full of girly fantasticness that I just wanted to squeal! Ok, that maybe be a bit exaggerated, but they were nice.
We were only here to enjoy some drank on the patio before filling our bellies with schnitzel at Auslanders. The peach margarita was very yummy, and I also had the Angry Orchard Hard Cider, which was the best hard cider I've had in a long time. Yum!!!
The patio in the front is awesome because it gives you a nice view of the people walking by and a nice breeze from the fans. I will be back for you Silver Creek Beer Garden!
On a recent day trip to Fredricksburg and hill country we stumbled into the Silver Creek Beer Garden. I admit, it wasn't our first choice, but it seems that everything closes early around downtown, so our options became acutely limited this evening.
Nonetheless, it made for a beautiful ending to a wonderful day. The outdoor seating was perfect, and they had a huge fan blowing to cool down the guests. They had a duo playing some good ol' Texan tunes, which created an awesome ambiance. It's a good thing too, because we had to wait quite a long time to get some service. Our waitress just kept helping a big table and ignored us for a good 15 minutes... if options weren't limited, we might have left.
I ordered the maple pecan chicken, which was very good. I only wish the chicken was a little more tender and hotter. The dirty or pilaf rice was great, but for vegetables, they only put two slices of asparagus over the rice. Can I have some more, please?
My husband loved his food, he had the Bavarian Jaegur Schnitzel and was pleased. The thin breaded slice of pork was cooked perfectly and the sauce on it gave it all the flavor it needed. The mash potatoes were creamy deliciousness...
They have a large selection of beers, which we enjoyed. Overall, minus the initial waiting for service, we had a very good meal and pleasant time having dinner on the front patio of the Silver Creek Beer Garden and would love to come back next time we visit Fredricksburg.
One of my favorite places in Fredericksburg, more for the atmosphere than the food. Â The outdoor patio is right on Main Street, so on a Saturday or Sunday, it's great for having a few beers while listening to live local music and watching tourists pass by. Â Unfortunately, it's not nearly as fun the rest of the week because there just aren't that many people in town. Â If you go on a Wednesday night, expect to be one of three people sitting in the huge outdoor area. Â The indoor dining rooms provide great atmosphere as well, and contrary to other reviews on here, they do NOT allow smoking in these rooms-- yes, smoking is allowed inside, but only in the bar area. Â I noticed that people were smoking at the bar, but it didn't affect our air in the dining room one bit (the bar is completely separate from the dining rooms). Â On weekends they also have live bands on the back patio where the bar is. Â It's kind of the best of both worlds-- tourists listening to acoustic sets in the front while friendly locals take over the bar. Â On busy nights, this place is genuinely fun... however, busy nights seem to be few and far between. Â I've been there when it's empty plenty of times. Â
The food isn't the best in town, but it's pretty good. Â Go for the chicken fried steak or the pork medallions and avoid the schnitzel-- it's not terrible, but if schnitzel is what you want, there are definitely better places in town to get it. Overall, I'm a fan of this place-- If everyone would come here when they're in town, it could be amazing!
Mediocre service, slow, just like most complaints on here. Went on Saturday night about 7 and was able to get seated immediately and inside. Was seated in a side room on the left, very low light, hard to see anything in there. I had German Sausage Plate, overall it was okay, red cabbage was good though. My friend had the braised pork and was really flavorless. The Cheesecake dessert was okay also, nothing to write home about. Â Perhaps this is why there is low light? :/
I won't bother with this place when I go back to Fredericksburg to checkout places I wasn't able to.
First you should know if you'll be inside the only non-smoking area are small rooms on the side. Â So unless you can eat outside or don't mind being away from the action you'll come out stinking.
I had a knockwurst sandwich and potato salad and a beer. Â All were ok, nothing worth crossing the street for. Â Service was fair.
I wouldn't go back.
I live in Austin and originally am from a small town up north so I love to get away for a bit to Fredericksburg when Im sick of the fast pace here. Silver Creek is one of my favorite places in the town to go, I love eating there and just hanging out. They have wonderful food ( and to answer one of the reviews below, they ask if you want extra plates because all of the dishes are WAY too much for one person) Â My Favorite dish is the Pork Medallions, just try it, SO good! They usually have live music as well from twangy string or country rock.
In the back of the building they have a bar with an outside patio, and a bunch of tv's if you are a sports fan. Trey is usually behind the bar when I have gone, he is funny friendly and a great host.
I would not recommend eating here if you are in a hurry, it is more of a sit and relax type environment just like any place in a small getaway town should be.
Our trip to Fredericksburg is never complete without visiting Silver Creek. Especially after a day of hiking around Enchanted Rock, there's nothing better than relaxing outside on the patio, listening to great live music and chowing down on some excellent German food. I particularly recommend the Spinach Artichoke Dip (although I hope they go back to the bread bowl rather than the tortilla bowl) and the Sausage Platter.
Review Source:We passed through Fredericksburg at about 1:30 PM a couple days before Christmas, and stopped for lunch. We found a parking spot right in front of Silver Creek beer Garden, so we tried eating there.
It was pretty good - I had a Schnitzel Plate, and it was very tasty, with an assortment of German potatoes, sauerkraut and red cabbage. My wife had a Schnitzel sandwich and fries, again a good lunch. Cost (for lunch) was fairly inexpensive; even with a beer you can still get out of here for around $16 per person. 4+ stars for the food
What brings this down to 3 stars was the awkward service. First, nobody noticed us finally someone saw we were hanging around and sat us at a table in glaring sunlight. We asked to move to a shady table, and they shrugged and moved us, but then getting the order and receiving the food seemed to take forever. Drinks never came, we had to remind them when they brought the food. Since it was a beautiful sunny day, almost 70 degrees (just a few days before Christmas) we didn't mind sitting around outside that much, but we were hungry and it got annoying after a while.
So, if a parking space magically appears in front of Silver Creek for you, too, try it out, but Fredericksburg does not seem short on choices for places to eat.
Nice place. Seated right away outdoors. They have a really nice little area out front for dinning. Â I wouldn't want to sit inside as they allow smoking indoors. Â I guess I've lived in Austin so long now that I couldn't believe I was actually seeing people smoke indoors.
Our drinks arrived promptly, as did our food twenty minutes later. The staff asked if we wanted the outdoor heaters next to us turned on. We said we did, and when the waitress wasn't able to turn it on she went and got someone else who could. I thought the food tasted great, my only complaint would be that I thought it was overpriced by just a few bucks, but not so much that I wouldn't hesitate to go back. Â I also think the price is part of the area. Â The entire Fredericksburg area is cover in little shops, and restaurants. Â All in all, I thought it was a nice place in a good location.
We were seated almost immediately on a Saturday night, which was nice. Our waitress was friendly, but that was about all she was. Our drinks took forever to get to us, and then when we asked her how big certain dishes were, she had no idea. We ordered the jalapeno poppers as an appetizer and they use red jalapenos here - super cool!
The service: Hubby's and my food came out and the girl who brought it out asked if we needed smaller plates to share the dishes. What a weird question... Oh now I get it! It's because we were dining with another couple and ours were the only dishes on the ticket. Their food hadn't even been entered in the computer!! Not only that, but our waitress didn't even show up to let us know about that for another five minutes after the food was delivered (did I mention we were her only table?). So needless to say, our friends' food comes out 20 minutes after our food and ours is cold by then (I got a salad, so no biggie, but hubby got ribs or something. not good cold). Oh, and their order was wrong when it finally arrived.
Also, I finally had to get up and grab the water pitcher to get my own refill because our waitress never came back until the meal was finished.
The food: The steak on my salad was undercooked, chewy, and fatty. Super gross. The cheese in my salad was thin squares that I can only imagine were Kraft slices stacked up and diced. The dressing was good, not great. Hubby's side dish that came with the meal was spatzle. I've had spatzle before and this was no good. It literally tasted like store-bought stuffing. Weird, right?
The entertainment: The musician singing on the porch was really good. I could have listened to him all night. Too bad he's performing here.
We will never return. There are much better places to dine in this quaint little town.
Considering it was Oktoberfest, I'll forgive the food coming out slower and the service being a little inattentive. Â Very busy but good food, not great. Â The rye on my reuben was very soggy, to the point of knife-and-fork time. Â Cabbage was good, sauerkraut was ok, german potato salad was meh. Â Wife liked her salad and Mango margarita, a German classic. ( heh ).
Sat outside, kinda wonder who determined stainless steel tables in the texas sun is a good idea. Â Consider yourself branded for the experience. Â Music was great, might just be a special weekend thing. Â Overall, good.
Aweful
We sat down for 20 min, and no one came and said a word. It was not busy.
Said something to a " server" Â about no one coming to our table, and was informed that we "should have flagged some one down". Â I thought people went to work to make money, but I guess it's just me.
Enough  tourists will keep this place going, but avoid if you can.
We just discovered Silver Creek on our recent overnight trip to Fredericksburg. What a gem! My hubby is a chef, so we are always pretty mindful (and critical, LOL) of restaurants, both food & service. We had an amazing time! The crab cakes were, literally, the best I've ever had! The sausage sampler was yummy, as was the artichoke dip (would've been even better with chips instead of crackers, but still delish).
Everyone was very friendly and the beer selection was great. We liked it so much, we had lunch there the next day, and the burgers were outstanding! Highly recommend!!
On our first visit to Silver Creek Grill, the service was awful but the food was decent, so we gave the place another try a year later. The chairs are comfy and the outside section is beautiful. But the service is still awful. The place is painfully understaffed -- the type of place where you order your next drink as the first one arrives because you know you won't see the server for a long time. When the medium rare steak we ordered came out well done, we complained and were told "the cook says that's how it's supposed to be." The server made no effort to amend the situation. If you are after a good beer selection, unremarkable food, and aren't looking to eat for at least an hour after ordering, then Silver Creek is the place for you. But Fredericksburg has a lot of great places to eat. Don't waste your time here.
Review Source:Ok, just a forewarning...PLEASE look for any signs telling you to wait by the steps for the hostess. When my friend and I got there were hadn't seen anything, so we walked in and immediately someone comes out and puts both hands in front of us and goes "Um, excuse me, can I help you??" I said "Yea, we'd like eat here....2 please." She goes "You'll have to wait, there are others in front of you" and proceeds to shoo us away. Ok first of all, I'm happy to wait if there is a line. Second, who treats people like that? Third, why did you have to be so rude? Clearly I didn't see the sign, so kiss my ass. I was kinda turned off, but someone had recommended this place and it did have a great patio. So we stayed and waited.
When we were eventually sat, the hostess was so nice and just pretended like nothing happened. Ugh. Natalie, our waitress came over after we sat and started schmoozing with us, gave great drink recs and let us to our own accord. I ordered the prickly pear margarita and my friend had a regular marg. Both delicious and strong. Since it was my birthday she suggested I do a shot called the "Hellen Keller", basically you go the bar, close your eyes, point to 3 liquors on the shelf and that is your shot. *cringe* Gross. I politely declined. For dinner, she had the angel hair with shrimp and I had the pomodorro pasta and I added shrimp. These shrimp were the biggest I've ever seen. DEELISH! The food was overall was alright, I mean I ate it and I was hungry, but absolutely no wow factor. Also, restaurants in Fredericksburg are not for the penny pincher. So expect everything (even casual places) to run you at minimum $10-$15 an entree.
Natalie was great, lively and fun. There was a live band playing when we got there, jazzy cover tunes. I mean, that's the life. Fabulous patio, darling waitress, good drinks and live music. Obviously a patio hang out joint. Great little touristy place.
I used to work in restaurants and am usually the one to forgive the little things like a forgotten drink or a waiter slip up or even being over charged and having to wait 30 minutes when I'm ready to go to get my bill situated but when all of it happens in one sitting I am less forgiving. Â
We arrived and sat out on the patio which is nice but the table was a little dirty and there was bird poop on the chair.  I switched the chair and wiped off the table and I was cool.  We sat  for a good 10 minutes and our waitress came over.  We ordered 2 beers.  15 minutes later we got one beer and a glass of wine.  I told her that I didn't order the wine and she said she'd be right back with a beer.  She took our order (did NOT write it down) and took the order of the people next to us.  She came back after 10 minutes to tell us that the reason our other beer didn't come was because they were out of it and she forgot to tell us.  Then she asked us what we ordered again.  (Because she didn't write it down)
My husband was pissed so he just ordered a water. Â She came back after another 7 minutes with a water for the table next to us that didn't order it and then gave that water to my husband and their drink order was wrong. Â (Still no pen and paper on this chick) Â
We finally got our food which was ok but not great. Â My chicken fried steak was dry and the gravy greasy, the potatoes were dry and the corn was frozen with some veggies in it. Â My husband had the german sausage which was actually good but the same dry potatoes and the mustard was crusted over in the ramekin. Â
My husband tried to order a beer again because the place had cleared out a bit and things were slowing down. Â 20 minutes later we got the beer and our food was gone.
I asked for the check which took  another 20 minutes so I just handed  her my card hoping to expedite things quickly. Â
She came back with no itemized receipt and after everything that happened I figured I needed one so I waited for that. Â Sure enough she charged me for that glass of wine I didn't order $7. Â I asked her to fix it and another 20 minutes later she came back.
My original bill (where I was overcharged) was $54.00 the second was $47.00. Â She had already charged the $54 to my account and then charged the additional $47 instead of just refunding the $7. Â So, instead of a seven dollar hold on my money, they caused a $54 hold on my account while I was on vacation. Â
No. No. No. No. NO.
I will never go back and will not ever recommend this to anyone.
Food was okay... we had the 'Irish Nachos' and the catfish plate for dinner...
The fish had a really fishy smell, not a real fresh fish smell.... which was a bit of a turn off, although my boyfriend really enjoyed it...
The staff is incredibly nice! We were a bit indecisive making our decisions, but they were extremely courteous!
I love their beer garden! It's such a nice patio and with a beautiful tree shadowing overhead. It satisfied our need to go somewhere with an authentic 'Fredericksburg' atmosphere..
There was some good: the outdoor seating and the live music were pluses.
Also, while the food didn't wow us, there was nothing wrong with it either.
Service was what we found lacking, it was slow and the waiter was really unhelpful when we tried to ask for wine suggestions (saying that usually people know what they want)
The kicker is that they automatically include a 20% gratuity for parties of four or more. Â Boo!
We stopped in here for a snack on Christmas Eve - they closed at 4 so we could not enjoy their lovely looking dinner menu.
Our waiter was a bit standoff-ish; when i asked for a recommendation about lunch he responded with "it's lunch." Â WTH does that mean?
When he came back with our drinks his attitude seemed to have changed and he showed us the Schnitzel and Sausage plates. We opted to share a Jager Schnitzel. Â The dish came out quickly and piping hot. Â the German Potato salad was the best we had all weekend and the Schnitzel was fork tender and golden brown.
I got a ruben and spaten oktoberfest, my fiance got the grilled mahi mahi and a hefeweiss. Â the food was delivered quickly (lunch on a monday) and the beverages too.
Service was good.
Live country music, the guy was cheesy but enjoyable.
Slightly pricey for what you get, but it's a tourist town so i didn't expect it to be cheap.
This place was good for evening entertainment. Live music outside on sunday night when almost all the places close up early. Â Inside tons of flat screen tvs to watch your favorite sport.
I didn't eat here but I had lots of different beers on tap they have plenty of German selections to try and plenty of local favorites which was the best thing about this place.
The food being served looked very stylish on the plate but cant review on taste. I would recommend this place for late night hang outs they have heaters outside for the cooler days as well.
After a full day in Fredericksburg we stopped at Silver Creek expecting the usual touristy overpriced food. What a nice suprise.
The place is quite nice. Live music playing outside. Good sevrice. Excellent food.
I cannot judge how authenticly German my meal was, but everyone on the table enjoyed the sausage sampler - Brautwurst and two other that I cannot attempt to spell. The mashed potatoes and other sides were above average. A good glass of wine as well. They have a pretty good selection of beers if that's what you are looking for.
My wife and daughter thought they had the best fetuccini Alfredo in a long time. I know, not German, but nice that they have both good German food and other choices for picky eaters in your party ;-)
It is not a place that will blow you away but for a nice dinner after a day of touristing in Fredericksburg, enjoying the afternoon with a good meal in Silver Creek is as good as it gets for me.
