We came here off of the interstate on our way south and found it homey and cute. The food was good but the service could've been better. I had the rueben which was good and my mother had the chicken salad which was a little dry. We liked the homemade chips and coleslaw. Overall, it was a good place to stop and eat if you aren't in for a gourmet experience. A nice little dive.

Interesting place.  Very small town.  Nice folks.  Food was good, better than one might expect based on the decor.

Quite a ways off the highway but the food & service were worth it!  Aunt Myrtle's chicken salad & homemade chips w/dip were excellent!

Mount Vernon is a strange town.  I think it only exists because of the confluence of two interstates combined with the fact that there are no other towns of any size in a 25 mile radius.  It seems to me they built the town just as a traveler oasis.  I found myself in Mount Vernon the night of Snowpocalypse (snow wasn't bad down here... just a bit of ice but temp stayed high enough to prevent a disaster) and after determining that this town of convenience is pretty much chain-restaurant central, I went out to find a local place for dinner.  Thus I found myself at the Silver Streak Inn.

You would never find this restaurant if you just pulled off the interstate.  It is way over on the east side of town probably 3 or 4 miles off the interstate.  And I don't get the reviews that have called this place a 'dive bar'.  This is just a small town family restaurant/diner.  Yes, they do have three beers on tap, but I don't even think they have liquor.  Didn't feel like a bar at all to me.  It's a simple family restaurant.

Restaurant was pretty empty the night I went.  Just one other group of older adults having dinner.  I ate at the counter and had the ribeye with broccoli and twice baked potato as sides.  Food was good but not great and loved that all steaks automatically come with sauteed mushrooms. Food was cooked to order, and service was very friendly.  The woman at the counter made pleasant conversation given and they had American Idol on the TV so watched that with dinner.  All and all an extremely low key and comfortable place to grab dinner.  Almost felt like eating at home.

Definitely give this place a try if you are in Mount Vernon and want to get away from the Applebee's, Outback, Lone Star and other chains that dominate the highway exit!

Great fried fish sandwich! This place may be a dive bar, but it's not gross or anything. Consistently good food and good service make this probably my favorite place to eat in Mount Vernon.

This is a dive bar/lounge on the east side of town. But not too many people know how good their food is. It's some of the best cooking you're going to find in MV. As a restaurant, they are very good.
