The Bright, IN location of Skyline Chili

With local high school memorabilia hung on the wall, such as football and basketball jerseys, the setting of Skyline Chili is very hometown-oriented. With a combination of booths, tables, and a low level bar (behind which you can see the employees making each dish), the choices are plenty. The restaurant is clean and well kept. Though it's on the smaller side of size, where you can see the whole restaurant from any seat, at most times, it isn't hard to find a table (though as it gets closer to dinner, things tend to pick up). The noise level is pretty normal- not quite subdued, but not overwhelming either. Drive through is also an option for this establishment.

Once you've chosen your seat, the friendly servers come up in their Skyline t-shirt or sweatshirt to complete the relaxed atmosphere. At your table, they bring you small, individual bowls of oyster crackers to munch on while you wait. Always welcoming without hovering too much, they've consistently stayed attentive to drink orders and other needs through multiple visits. With the size of the restaurant, getting in touch with them is very easy to do.

My usual meal at Skyline focuses on two dishes. The first is their famous Cheese Coney, which I get with everything on it. Not the size of a regular hotdog, the Coney includes one about half that length. In addition to the bun and hotdog, their special recipe chili (which doesn't include beans), the product includes a line of mustard, chopped up onions, and their finely shredded cheese (in copious amounts), which complete the item. The chili is something that I've grown up with and loved the taste of, but others that are exposed to it for the first time don't always feel the same. A must have on every visit home, though, a Coney (or two or three of them) is small but hearty, running about $2.85 for each one.  With the combination of all of the ingredients, each one is delicious and flavorful.

The second dish that satisfies my craving for Skyline is the 3-Way Chili. This very simply includes a base of spaghetti noodles, on top of which goes their chili, finished off with a mound of their delicious cheddar cheese. This dish can also have onions or beans added, or even have a baked potato instead of the noodles. The options are many, and usually range from $5-8. This combination, which you might not expect, is tasty and filling, the coolness of the cheese and the warm chili and noodles balancing perfectly.

The rest of the menu can typically run anywhere from $3-$15, depending on the size of the item you get. Items range from the chili-based dishes to wraps, burritos, fries and salads, and they serve Pepsi products to complement the food. Definitely an affordable place to bring the family, or go out with friends. Even a popular place to go for lunch after something like Church. Highly recommended as a unique taste to experience.
