We visited late on Friday afternoon. Â We anticipated a Lenten, fish eating crowd and we were correct. Â By the time we left at 5:30, it was packed.
There is a small bar in this old time restaurant and it must be a cheap drink. Â My hubby had a nice sized glass of Amber Bock for $1.50. Â Don't see a draft beer that cheap too many places.
We had the fish. Â I had 1/2 order of the "fish-ettes" and my DH had the fish filet dinner. Â My 3 fishettes were nice size and lightly breaded and cooked perfectly. Â His filet was thin and breaded heavily. Â Kind of salty too. Â We would both go with the fishettes in the future. Â We saw a burger go by our table that looked great. Â We had tater babies as our side and paid a $3 upcharge for the salad bar. Â The tater babies were breaded potato wedges. Â We saw later that there was mac and cheese as well as stewed tomatoes available as sides that we weren't aware of. Â It pays to be a regular at a place like this. Â But everyone treated us very nicely, even though they didn't know us.
I have to comment on the salad bar. Â It was good. Â There was even do it yourself hot slaw. Â They had a pea salad that took me back to my childhood.
Homemade pie! Â Lots of variety. Â I took a piece of the peanutbutter to go. Â Oh wow. Â It was so rich and good. Â We split it and it was perfect.
We will return to this out of the way gem. Â It was a bit of a drive, but worth it. Â You won't be disappointed.
