This place has been a long standing institution in the Old Forge area and is probably my favorite bar to get food at in the area. The French Dip is the best anywhere, and I mean anywhere, as I have ordered it at multiple other places in my travels across the US and none have ever come close to Slickers. All the other food is great also but I'm partial to the french dip. Â If your in the Old Forge area and your looking to go out to eat Slickers should be at the top of your list. Only thing to watch out for is that Slickers is EXTREMELY popular so expect to wait if your headed for dinner on a Friday or Saturday night, other nights there is normally no wait.
Review Source:I'd say Slickers is a solid 3.5 to 3.75 stars. Â We dined there with our two young kids (4 & 6 years old). They have a typical bar fare menu of salads, sandwiches, burgers and some seafood. Â We went for the sandwiches, and they did not disappoint. Â Nothing fancy, but the food hit the spot, and I though the price for the meal was very reasonable. Â They have a kids menu, and a decent selection of cocktails/wine/beer if you're looking for liquid refreshment after a day hiking in the ADK woods. Â It is a bit small, but we were lucky and got the last table available without having to wait. There is also a small outdoor dining area.
Review Source:My husband and I ate here during a recent visit to Old Forge. Â You certainly can't miss the bright yellow building from the road and it was close to our motel which was nice. Â The bar area seems like it would be a hopping place in the evening. Â The service was fast and attentive.
The food was tasty, reasonably priced and the portions were huge! Â I had the tuna melt special and while I could have eaten only half of it and been fine, I just had to finish the whole thing. Â My husband had the Philly cheese steak which he really liked as well. Â We both had iced teas which were fresh brewed and not that crappy bottled Lipton stuff.
All in all, Slickers is a great place!
Awesome bar food in Old Forge! Â We went for dinner and had some great sandwiches and baked haddock and then came back for happy hour the next day and devoured plate-fulls of the 19 cent peel and eat spicy shrimp! Â It's not a fancy place but the atmosphere is comfy, the servers are friendly and the food is pretty damn good! Â Nice beers on tap, too.
Review Source:If you are ever in Old Forge, NY, Slickers is the one place that you MUST go. You may have to wait a bit for your table, but it is definitely worth the wait. Most of the wait staff is very friendly, and the food is incredible.
The French Dip is hands down the best I've ever had. The bread is very soft and just delicious. The pizzas are also fantastic. There are a lot of varieties from chicken pesto to buffalo chicken to pepperoni. All of which are great (even the next day cold!)
They serve some local beers on tap for cheap and they have live music on the weekends, featuring central-upstate NY's best performers. In the summer you can ride up to the dock in your boat, and in the winter you can park your snowmoblie outside, its a perfect lunchtime or dinner spot year round!
