Stopped by on a calm rainy Sunday night looking for good food on our way back to WI.
Nonetheless to say, we were pleasantly surprised by this place!
Firstly, the location is quite majestic: think big windows, patio area literally on the water...& the river ahhhh!
Secondly, the service was very friendly, prompt & personal...just like these lil gems should be expected to be!
And lastly...the food! Yummy, homemade, fresh..just tasty! We started with the Grilled Sausage app: gotta try! Tasted like smokey BBQ & served with spicy jelly, cream cheese & bread...oh how that was good! Then, in between the 4 of us, we worked our way through the special of the day: "Chicken, mash potatoes with gravy & corn", "Sirloin with DELICIOUS crispy fries" & the "Beer-battered walleye with 3 jumbo scampi/buttery/naughty shrimp"... And not 1 complaint! Everything was juicy, well made, tasty & all!
In sum, I know if we lived closer, we would become regulars...
My wife and I took my elderly parents their on the evening of June 30 because of the nice river view on the outside patio. Â However, we had to wait for about 30 minutes while others who came after us were waited on. Â Finally, a waitress came to our table and said she wasn't our waitress but would take care of us because she saw we had been waiting a long time, but she made it clear she was not happy about it. Â After another long wait, we finally got our food. Â The food was ok, but we will never go back unless there is a change of ownership and staff.
Review Source:Batterfried walleye sandwich with Cole slaw was good. Wife had a "Putz" Burger and said it was good.
Waitress was pleasant and attentive.
I only gave 3 stars cause the patio furniture outside is uncomfortable as heck & the salt shaker was so gross I couldn't even use it ....and because this is our first time back in years after basically giving up on eating here. We are trying to give it another shake now , years later.
We will try this place again
I have been here several times because when you find yourself in Wabasha the choices are pretty limited as to where to grab a snack and a drink and just relax and sit and well---you want to do it while looking at the beautiful water.....so I find myself here time and time again...but it is not for the food......it is just okay....and I don't believe anybody in the surrounding areas make a special trip to wabasha just to eat out at slippery's. Â It is certainly full of local flavor as it is all about the Grumpy old men movies down in this neck of the woods.....so that is pretty dang neat.....it also is a handy spot to meet up with others as everybody knows about Slippery's and it can accomodate larger groups sufficiently...Typical boring menu of chicken sandwiches, burgers, appetizers....This bar has survived a few floods in the past years and keeps on going so I can respect that.
Review Source:I've noticed the reviews for Slippery's are getting better. Â That's good to see. Â Sometime last year the former owners took it back and I think it has improved since then.
Chuck, look at <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwhitepages.com&s=ac51ec4aaa47636b1d47bf60665d9270ac3df4fa96d771d611e5eae9e40d74fe" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://whitepages.com</a> and search under Klas.
After reading some of the Yelp reviews, I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but one of my lunch mates had this place on their radar.
Yes, the view of the river was a delight, especially enjoyed the nice breeze on a summer afternoon. Â Our server was efficient and friendly.
My Bacon Blu Burger was more of a patty melt, but tasty and juicy none the less.
The view is great. The waitress seemed angry that it was busy, and had an attitude when I told her about my son's food allergies. It seemed like it was too much of a hassle to go and check the ingredients of a dish. She wasn't the only server with an attitude, all the waitresses were bickering with one another; they all seemed very catty. It is fun for the view, but service and the food was horrible. People with food allergies should avoid this place, or get a manager right away because the server we had was apathetic. Maybe just order a drink and sit outside, skip the food.
Review Source:I can't believe the reviews on this place. Â OK, we're laid back out of towners. Â Maybe we're easy to please.
But the jalapeno cream cheese poppers with raspberry sauce were to die for. Â They were SO good. We were actually "uuuuunngh!!" outloud in our booths.
And the view was gorgeous. Â And the beer was cheap and served and in a perfectly frosted mug. Â And our server was super sweet and timely.
Got absolutely nothing to complain about.
It was "a'ight". Â Being the dorky Grumpy Old Men fan that I am, I wanted to give it a try. Â I'm glad I did, because I'm sure that if I hadn't it would have bugged me and the next time I'm in Wabasha I would have gone, but it's nothing that I plan on going back to. The food wasn't bad, it just didn't make me want to come back. Â It was "just food." Â The view was nice - it's right on the river so that was nice. Â The gift shop was kind of dumb (sorry, Slippery's!); I guess I was expecting some more "Grumpy" gear since that's what they hype so much.
Review Source:My family is originally from the area, so Grumpy Old Men is still.......neat? I stopped in for the first time with my dad. Before going inside, we took a few seconds and looked at an outside display of movie props and photos. We went in a side door and made our way down some stairs to a low level dining area. The stair way smelled like an old boathouse (mildew and fish). The inside atmosphere was what you would expect from an older restaurant on the river that has ties to a movie that is nearly 20 years old. In hope to catch some action on the river, we sat outside. Other than three, I would assume to be grumpy, old men fishing, the river was quiet.
The food and service was average. It is a big river, I am sure there is better.
Meh, it's okay. The food isn't outstanding and it is a little weird that they have Grumpy Old Men playing all day, every day. There are better places you can go in Wabasha, but if you're in a pinch, go for it. Or if you're a tourist and that's what drew you to the town to begin with, go to Slippery's and tell your Gumpy Old Men loving friends all about it.
Review Source:We stopped for lunch while visiting the National Eagle Center down the road on Main Street. Â This place is out of the way in a residential area right on the River. Â Was sat and watched to ice flow down the River. Â We had a party of 16 show up at prime time Lunch, the place was packed but, another party of 16 was just leaving (total luck). Â We were seated within 5 minutes. Â I ordered a New Castle on tap followed by a Fantastic Clam Chowder and Reuben sandwich for a pretty decent price. Â The River view provided non stop entertainment as large chunks of ice were floating by.
Review Source:A great river view friendly staff but that's about it the food is as dull as The handle of a butter knife they are surviving by the fame of the Grumpy old Men movies the name might be the same but its not the building they filmed it in ,they have a gift shop for all your MN and movie souvenirs though but was disappointed in what we found when we went out of our way to see this place
