Like others, I found this place on Yelp, on my way home from Myrtle Beach. Â The service was quick (although I would have appreciated more info on the menu board, like what comes with each meal, etc)
The location is clean, and decorated with photos of old movies, celebrities, etc. Â There is a drive through, as well.
We ordered fried chicken, which came with hush puppies, coleslaw, and potato salad (kids ordered chicken tenders and fries). Â Food was plentiful! Â The chicken was REALLY good. Â So juicy and tasty. Â Sides were good too, although I thought that the hush puppies were a little bit tough. Â DH also ordered the Brunswick stew, which was the best that either of us had tasted. Â
I tagged it in my GPS for easy locatability (is that a word?) in future trips, if that tells you anything, lol.
Wow. Â I travel a lot for work and one of the foods I love to compare is bbq. Â I couldn't make it all the way to Smithfield, NC os this had to suffice. I'm SOO glad I stopped here. Â One of the best pulled pork sandwiches I've ever had!
I only went through the drive thru so I can't attest to the ambiance or any of the other food.
Read about this place on Yelp. The reviews were great so we went. It was a fun little place. Reminded me of a 50's diner. You place your order at the counter and then they bring you your food. We had the bbq pork sandwich and fries. Great bbq and lots of fries. Had sweet tea and it was the best I have ever had. It is one of the few places to eat in town but it is worth trying.
Review Source:Stopped in on the way to Myrtle Beach based on reviews from Yelp. Â
We had the BBQ sandwich and my son had the hot dog. Â Overall, I'd give the food a 3.5. Â BBQ was tender and sandwiches were okay. Â Hot dog was marginal.
Where they shined for us was the staff. Â Extremely friendly and attentive. Â They bring balloons out to young kids, and actually come by to see how you are doing. Â
Would come here again if passing by.
Whilst in town doing some filming for my client, The BioDome (video: http://bit.ly/12720V9) for an upcoming episode of Doomsday Preppers on NatGeo, I was a guest at the Hampton Inn next door to this joint and every time I drove by this place, the enticing aroma wafting across 501 caught my attention. As well as the steady stream of folks going in and out carrying abundant to-go bags.
Excellent fried chicken. Their proprietary and vinegary BBQ sauce was memorable, too. Â The night I visited, they had a 2-4-1 special on quarts of their Brunswick Stew. So I had to give her a try. And it was delish!
A little more like paste than stew, it was still Yummo. Corn, lima beans, green beans, onion, pulled pork, and BBQ chicken, and a hint of vinegar. I may have missed an ingredient or two. Very good. Very hearty. Hint of vinegar. Mmmmm!
The staff was super helpful and super friendly. The place is new, bright, and clean. And I received a tremendous value, 6 pieces of chicken, 2 pints of stew, and bucket of Sprite all for under $14 including tip. #SCORE!!
The chef could have been a little more careful about not slopping the stew all over the exterior of the Styrofoam to-go containers but I'm almost over that by now. Chef Ramsey would slap him whilst yelling "STANDARDS!"
Cabeza, out. The Doomsday Preppers episode comes out in September allegedly, keep an eye out for it.
Smithfields has excellent eastern NC BBQ and great fried chicken. We stop here regularly driving from Charlotte on the way to Ocean Isle Beach via 74 E. The staff is very nice and take great care of their customers. If you're a true southerner you'll love the sweet tea. Try to avoid stopping here on Sunday's around lunch time. They get really busy with all the hungry people just getting out of church. I would definitely recommend giving this place a shot if you like BBQ or chicken.
