This is a cool newer place in Lake Placid. We had dinner here one night and stopped by for drinks another. The maple corn bread is "to die for". For dinner I had the maple pecan glazed ribs which were great. The micro brew selection was good and cold too. Nice table view of mirror lake. Good selection of single and blended scotches (I tried the rare Sheep Dip scotch and was very satisfied with the pour, price and taste).
Review Source:I am giving this restaurant 2 stars for  its beautiful decor.  The seating was lovely and the service attentive.  However, the food was poor and would have received 1star. My  brisket looked good, but the ends were so dried I had to cut them off. I couldn't chew the meat. There was not much flavor at all. My husband's pulled pork  sandwich was slightly better. It's a shame because it really is a lovely place but we won't be back unless the food improves.
Review Source:Loved it. Â
Great prices. Â I got a veggie burger for only 11 dollars. Â There is not a restaurant in Lake Placid that can offer a decent meal for around that price. Â You also get a basket of corn bread here to start your meal which was moist and delicious. Â The baked beans were great too. Â Very sweet with pieces of bacon in them.
Seating was not a problem. Â We walked in at 5 on a Saturday and were sat down immediately. Â There was a tourist speaking loudly that he and his family wanted to sit down (about 14 people) and he wanted the place to realize they should take reservations. Â I just wanted to snap at the customer and tell him to take his kids to Mcdonalds. Smoke Signals made it clear that they do not take reservations so keep this in mind that if you have a group of people. Â
The place is beautifully decorated and it features a bar and live music upstairs until 2 am. Â They have a large 80 inch tv too to watch while you are at the bar.
Went to the bar to check out the scene. Â Pleasant atmosphere, but the bar tender was not familiar with certain drinks. Â The food looked good and the view of the water was great. Â Arranged for a group of friends (14) and personally went in to place a reservation for the next evening. Â The hostess took our information and confirmed our reservation. Â When we arrived for our reservation the poor hostess working tonight looked like a deer in headlights. Informed us that they do not have the reservation and after checking stated they dont take reservations and they would require us to wait 40 to 45 minutes meanwhile there were plenty of empty tables and no one waiting. Â Asked for he manager, Patrick, Â and he came over and wanted to know the problem and then stated it was our policy NOT to take reservations and WE never have since opening. Â No discussion from him to try to accommodate us did not even offer the 40 minute wait the hostess provided. Â Patrick really could care less if we ate there or not. Â A manager without a full resturante you would figure would be a little more accommodating and apologetic. Â He cared less about us or the money we were willing to spend at Smoke Signals. Â His attitude prompted us to go elsewhere, even knowing we would end up waiting longer, Â we could not allow his rudeness, lack of customer service and attitude ruin our night. Â The owner needs to rethink his manager!
And to the person who commented in their review about this situation...if you are going to comment make sure you overhear the entire conversation before you get ready to jump in and tell us to take our kids to McDonalds. Â We MADE a reservation the day before (as we stated above). Â Someone in the restaurant screwed up and it should have been rectified. Â One person takes the reservation and then all of a sudden the next day they don't take reservations? Â Obviously an error made on the part of the restaurant that should have been addressed with a better attitude than "oh well".
When you consider the whole package, this is definitely one of the best I have even been to. Â The decor is incredible. Â Love the high end audio system. Â How many restaurants can say they have a McIntosh system? Â The photos on the walls are just beautiful. They must have spent a pretty penny in opening the wall over looking the lake. Â We sat right by the opening, with the floor to ceiling screen. Â Just amazing. Â
Our waiter, Logan, was friendly, informative and knowledgeable. Â He was patient and offered great suggestions. Â I have never had as good nachos anywhere. Â My brisket was generous and the sauce just right, for this part of the world. Â The mac n cheese, oh the mac n cheese. Â Gotta have the mac n cheese. Â
Two minor complaints- the bar tender could have been friendly. Â He was just functional. Â While they offered ice water frequently, they really should use a water filter. Â Ugh, chlorine. Â
Consider the reasonable prices, great food, great service, amazing view of the lake, incredible decor, an easy five star! Â Bravo, Mr. Stoltz.
We have been here three times since it first opened. The first experience was great (except that they serve a powder mix masquerading as ice tea), the second experience was meh, and the last prompted this review. We brought friends from out of town for dinner on 4th of July and while we understand it is a busy night for dinner service, our dinner was a disaster. 30 minutes after our appetizers had been served our waiter informed us they ran out of brisket (it wasn't even 8pm and time for our entrees to be coming out of the kitchen) which meant half our table had to choose something else for dinner. At that point, one person passed on ordering a new dish. When the food did finally arrive, the one scrap of brisket remaining in the kitchen made it out as a sandwich and was inedible, it promptly went back and a second person at our table went without dinner. The flatliner burger ordered medium came out burnt making 3 out of 7 of us going without eating because the kitchen couldn't manage the food properly. The food that did make it to our table was lukewarm and cooked badly. Through all of this, one would think a manager would have stopped by and apologized for all of the mishaps. Our waiter was left out on his own to manage the debacle the kitchen had created. By the time we left, it struck us as if the kitchen had run out of half the dishes on the menu. We left hungry and embarrassed that we had taken friends out to dinner and they never actually got to eat any dinner. Needless to say, we will not be back.
Review Source:The BEST BBQ we've had out in a lonnnnnnng time! We frequent restaurants in Lake Place OFTEN and watch places come and GO!!!! This place is a KEEPER! The owner is accommodating and we hope Daniela the server stays!!!!! Whiskey Barrell wooden walls and bars make the decor eclectic and rustic yet modern- AWESOME!!! upstairs bands play and an entire floor is devoted to music! Cheers and ROCK ON!
Review Source:This review is only for the bar as I did not eat any food.
This newish BBQ restaurant and bar is a handsome, modern addition to the tourist strip that is Main Street. Â
Located half way down the block this was the best spot for happy hour regarding pricing.
For $1 a can (I did not partake) you can have an ice cold PBR from 4-6. Â What I did partake in was the $2 off ALL TAP deal which is great!
Most craft brews in this town are in the $5-$7 range so this was quite the deal.
The plus was the nice bartender who just returned from living in Brooklyn, shout out dude, you were great!
Great spot for happy hour...go now grab a seat because the bar seats fill up fast.
We went a week after opening and were pleasantly surprised. Â The interior is well designed with a great view of the lake. Â We were seated quickly (2 adults, 2 small kids). the waiter was a little overly talkative, and touted the fresh, homemade, locally sourced nature of the food. Â We ordered mac n cheese for the kids, brisket for me and a burger for my better half. Â The cornbread was good, but not warm. The mac n cheese came out with apologies...the homestyle, from scratch dish was actually craft, with bacon scattered on top. Â The waiter explained that this was a switch from the night before when some kids did not appreciate the real deal. Â My kids were happy with the kraft, but would have been even happier with the homestyle, and next time we will specify that is what we wanted. Â My husband's burger was phenomenal. He has been searching the greater LP/Wilmington area for a good one and he was satisfied. Â the Brisket was better than average, but not amazing (I have a high TX hill country standard for brisket.) The beans? So good, as were the picked veggies. They need to add collards to the menu and they will see us more often. Â the prices are pretty reasonable, by LP standards!
