Go here. Â Eat here. Â Thank me later.
Wife has developed some sort of addiction to trout and specifically smoked trout. Â As we passed by and saw the sign for smoked trout she was dead set on stopping. Â How could I argue? Â
We both got the smoked trout burrito and thought it was great. I got spicy. Â WIfe got a mix. Â I recommend either.
Just the tip - put a little BBQ sauce on your mexican style burrito. Â Again, thank me later.
I have driven by near several times before finally stopping here with a friend this past weekend. I had high hopes for this place seeing the little shack and expecting great BBQ. But i was sorely disappointed.
The pork was juicy, but had absolutely no flavor. It was bland and unfortunately not even a heavy helping of sauce could help it. There wasnt the classic smokey flavor you expect. It tasted like it was a made in a crock pot.
The beans were good and the staff was friendly. My friends enjoyed their pork sandwiches, but it simply didnt live up to my BBQ standards.
This is the little log cabin place-in-the-mountains you walk into and think "I'd love to have a little restaurant like this." Small, manageable, quality face time with the owner and her helper, and simple, decent, flavorful fare. BBQ. All the items you might expect, including ribs, pulled pork and brisket sandwiches, and breakfast burritos as well.
There is limited seating for about 8-10, and picnic tables out front when it's alfresco time. My nephew Dustin and I visited the place in late January, so it was a little too chilly to eat outside. We both ordered the pulled pork sandwich. Generous serving of slow-cooked pork with the sauce added by order-regular or spicy, on a bakery hamburger bun. We didn't try the sides. But it was a big, sloppy, tasty time. I think I used about ten napkins. Drinks are canned cold beverages. My A&W Root Beer was a good mate for the pulled pork.
Service was faster than a fast-food place, too. Definitely a must-stop on your way west from Colorado Springs as you head towards the Continental Divide.
