Brought our staff here for lunch on a weekday to experience the fine smokey flavors of real barbecue. We were not disappointed. All of us tried the lunch combo with beef brisket. The brisket was the hero, well smoked - tender and flavorful. The barbecue sauces were dark and rich, heavy on the molasses, which suited me and the others at the table just fine. Fries were ok, nothing special. Potato salad was bland for my taste, but salt on the table helped kick it up a notch. My favorite sauce was the Carolina Mustard - absolutely wonderful. Â
Service was superb, worth the wait. The smell inside the restaurant will make you hungry!
Went for lunch twice, tried the pulled pork and smoked rabbit (and various side items). The meats are moist and tasty, but the sauce(s) were a MAJOR buzz kill. Heavy molasses-based sauce killed the flavor of the meat. Fortunately, I order sauce on the side only. The other sauces were similarly disappointing. The side items (cole slaw, potato salad, beans) were just ok. Beans are texas-style (not sweet or tangy) and not to my personal liking.
On a non-food topic, I visited when it was cold out, and because the door opens right onto the seating area, both me and my meal got colder every time someone walked in the door. Very frustrating.
If you go...bring your own sauce (or order it on the side only) and wear your jacket.
