I felt compelled to try deep dish pizza while within less than 100 miles of Chicago. According to everyone encountered we should try Gino's East. When that was unavailable we told to try Lou Malnati's. After reading all of the awesome reviews I think perhaps my east coast pallet is to blame. I just didn't understand the combination of wet dough and stewed tomatoes. Keep in mind that I have literally salivated watching Chicago style deep dish pizza on television shows! You can imagine my great disappointment to FINALLY have the opportunity and feel very let down. As I previously mentioned the dough was, for lack of a better adjective, doughy. The sauce was bland and saturated the pizza. I did like the way in which the sausage patty was evenly distributed around the whole pie. The restaurant was neat and decent it had that "we've been here a while but we take pride in our establishment feel". The server was efficient and courteous. Without that this would've easily been a two star review based on food alone. Again let me reiterate I believe that this was a matter of personal taste. So with that in mind, if YOU are familiar with Chicago style pizza then by all means try it.
