I came to Key Largo for the day to relax and chose Snapper's as a place to eat/drink for a few hours.
The deck seating and atmosphere is great! There is plenty of seating with a view of the dock and out into the ocean. Even though it was hot, there was plenty of shade and a nice breeze.
The server was polite, friendly, and fast.
The drinks...amazing! Great selection of coffee liqueurs, mixed drinks, and beer. Personally, I think enjoying a drink alongside the water makes the drink taste 10x better!
The food...I wish I could say more about the food. I ordered a salad and not saying the salad was bad -- it was underwhelming. I was also turned off when the huge wedge of salad arrived at my table uncut. There were also nearly whole tomatoes surrounding the wedge of doom. Why am I paying 10 dollars for a salad that I have to chop up myself? It did not say on the menu that the salad was being served this way. Normally I don't mind chopping my own salad at home or at a cheap restaurant, but for the price I expected it to come out pre-cut. I also expected something pretty flavorful for 10 dollars and it fell a little short.
However, I saved the food part for last because there are plenty of other things on the menu and the rest of the experience made up for the meal.
If you are in the area, check out Snapper's for the experience!
Went around 2 and there was hardly anyone there. We got a nice table on the doc and had a quiet lunch it was absolutely great! I'll be sure to go back as soon as possible! The service was great and the view was perfect! The fish and chips defiantly hit the spot and were some of the best I've had in a while!
Review Source:REALLY good!! Everything. The food was great- the fish was the BEST (no exaggeration) that I have ever had, the view was beautiful and small on the water. There was live music- he was great, played great covers of everything from Jimmy Buffet, Jack Johnson etc to Toots. He also had original material that was really good.
What we got:
Apple Wood Smoked Bacon Wrapped Scallops
Jumbo Sea Scallops Wrapped with Crispy Smoked Bacon & Drizzled with Honey Ginger Teriyaki Glaze * 16.89
Perfect sear, smokey, thick-cut bacon and the scallop was seared nicely and sow unctuous. Yum!
The side caesar- good. Lemony and very yummy.
mains:
I got the hogfish (delicate white flakey fish, more delicate and sweet flavor than Mahi) with the:
Dove Creek Sauce- Encrusted with Freshly Shaved Parmesan Cheese and Topped with Roasted Red Pepper Relish Surrounded by Lemon Caper Butter Sauce.
My friend got Lobster in the Dakota Sauce: Encrusted with Slivered Almonds
& Parmesan Cheese, Baked & Finished with Champagne Butter
BOTH were amazing, but the hogfish was the best!! It wasn't fried or caked, you could still taste the fish and the veg were cooked perfectly, still crisp. There were heirloom rainbow carrots, green beans, broccoli and red peppers.
The Key lime pie was actually a cheesecake with green goo. Odd. I don't recommend it.
The service was relaxed (read slow, but friendly) but we were in no hurry. Next time I drive from Miami to Key west I will def stop!
Good conch fritters, bad specialty drinks except for the mohito with freshly muddled mint, service that really doesn't give a crap about your experience, and so-so food otherwise. We wanted to sit out on the water but everyone seems to smoke out there, including pipes and cigars. As a spoiled Oregonian, I find that practice gross and unfair to those of us who don't smoke and don't enjoy second-hand smoke with our meals. We had to eat inside. That was a bummer, but it is a place that feels like authentic old Key West.
Review Source:I will keep it short and sweet, because most likely you are like me. Â Your trying to find a good place to eat in or out of your way from key west. Â
Overall the food was OK. Â Service OK. Â
The scenary was great, there was outdoor and indoor seating on the bay. Â
We ordered cocktails on a friday and before my boyfriend finished his patron shot the waitress took his shot with patron still inside. Â No problem though, because they brought him a new one. Â
*conch fritters = Â D
we had to return because they didnt seem fresh and where soaked in oil. (no good)
*mexican shrimp ceviche = C
it tasted like tomatoe juice with lime. Â I personally didnt like it. Â
*Fish Mahi Tacos Blackened = N/A They where too spicey for me to eat but my boyfriend says they where quite good.
One of my other very-favorite seafood restaurants in Key Largo is Snapper's, which is tucked back in off of the Overseas Highway at Mile Marker 94.5, turn left at Lime St. and then right at Seaside Ave.
Snapper's is located on the ocean-side, and the restaurant faces the water with an indoor seating area and outdoor tables right along the railing. There's also a thatched hut tiki bar which is a very popular spot to kick back and enjoy a frozen Adult beverage or a cold beer.
This is a super casual spot, and you'll see people tie up their boats at the marina and then walk over for something to eat. Snapper's is popular with sport fishermen, scuba divers, and the locals crowd. Snapper's reopened its doors in May of 1989. The view of the Atlantic Ocean from the tiki bar, restaurant or the deck overlooking the marina speaks for itself. The building has survived hurricanes, floods and pillaging by pirates and drug smugglers. It is rumored that upstairs was once a house of ill repute. All the history and the unique coral architecture have helped to develop its character.
As with most of the fish houses in the Keys, Snapper's offers a wide variety of fresh fish and shellfish appetizers including a raw bar, and made-from-scratch chowders. Signature items include fresh fish, seafood combos, shrimp dishes, twin lobster tails, and a variety of steak and chicken dishes.
I generally ask what fish is fresh that day, and then order a chargrilled or baked stuffed (stuffed with blue crabmeat) preparation, although there are many different options from which to choose. Snapper's also offers a "You Hook 'em... We Cook 'em!" option where you bring in your freshly-caught "Catch of the Day", cleaned and ready to cook, and they'll prepare the fish as you like.
You'll find live music on a nightly basis, so it's really pleasant to sit outside and watch the sunset while enjoying your dinner. After the sun goes down the staff brings out buckets of kitchen scraps, and they'll toss the food into the water to feed the big silvery tarpon -- much to the delight of the crowds.
Ignore the haters, and enjoy a nice seafood dinner at Snapper's!
Was looking for fresh fried fish, instead ended up with frozen filets. "Cocktail special", was fried with the head and all,, ewww. and the french fries were cold. my sons kids meal was the best thing on the table. We did go on Mothers day around 2pm, although the place was dying down from the lunch rush hour crowd. Would not return.
Review Source:Snapper's came highly recommended by the owner of the mini resort that we stayed at.
We loved this restaurant! Â Food was pretty darn good. Â I had the double lobster tails and the hubby had the yellowfin tuna. Â Their Key Lime pie was hands down the best!
There was live music both nights that we ate here...and it was good live music.
The restaurant is located waterfront with their Turtle bar off to the side. Â Very cute place with a lovely view of the bay.
Good food and good service!
I have to say that we are glad that our lodge is by this solid restaurant during our key largo getaway. Â This became our default to-go place. Â The bacon wrapped shrimp, seafood combo, fried yellowtail snapper, key lime pie, brownie w/ ice cream and whipped cream...we are happy with almost everything we ordered. Â The ambience was lovely with tranquil ocean view, cute little fish in the water, talented performer improvising songs... Our waiter was fabulous. Â He was very considerate and kept checking on us how we were doing.
Review Source:Wow! The food and service was great. We started off with the conch fritters. Very tasty with plenty of conch in them. My wife ordered the yellowfin tuna appetizer for her meal. I ordered the blackened Mahi sandwich with fries for mine. She loved the tuna. It was prepared exactly like she likes it. The blackened Mahi sandwich was delicious. She had a glass of wine and I had a diet coke. We ended with a piece of key lime pie that we shared. It was very good and my wife loved all the wipped cream they put on top of it. We left the restaurant very full. The only negative was the fries needed to be hotter. Total bill with 20% tip was $61.
Review Source:This place is all show. It banks on the fact that there are 1.)  no other restaurants around  2.) Its by the water 3.) Tourists and older folk with money come here.
So I looked at the menu, expensive prices I thought. Must be good because all these people are here, I thought. Boy was I wrong.
I couldn't believe how bad my dinner was considering how expensive it was. My Thai tuna didn't look like tuna at all, I'm pretty sure it was salmon out of a can and it sure did taste like it. Note to Snappers: Thai tuna actually has tuna in it. And it was smaller than the size of my iphone. For $25!!! Outrageous. I don't mind paying top dollar for food, as long as it is quality. This is just another scheming restaurant trying to make a buck by screwing customers.
And to top it off, I got food poisoning. Those who said the place is dirty was right!
First off, I can't speak for the food since we didn't get a table. Â We made a reservation an hour ahead of time but were told to wait since they were backed up, no big deal. Â After 45 minutes however, it finally came to light that although they had tables open, their kitchen was backed up and we would have to wait. Â The hostess wouldn't give us any idea if how long it would be and rudely shrugged her shoulders when we asked. Â We ended up leaving since we were very put off by the indifferent way they handled us. Â Again can't speak for the food, but the service was terrible.
Review Source:The food is good and the view is fantastic. They also have a couple of very cool outdoor bars. Â The place has a definite Keys vibe, which is to say laid back and rustic. If you want something high end, go elsewhere. If you go, make sure to sit outside. Just about everything on the menu is good, so it's hard to go wrong.
Review Source:My now husband and I had our rehearsal dinner at Snappers on July 13th. Â From start to finish, Snappers provided stellar customer service and ultimately gave us and our 50 guests an unforgettable evening. Â
Our group's event was on the far end of the dock, which provided enough privacy but also proximity to the live music. Â The food (we ordered several rounds of heavy appetizers) was absolutely fantastic, and we were constantly attended to by both servers and the manager. Â The bartender was friendly and timely. Â Our out-of-town guests constantly expressed how much they enjoyed the laid-back Keys atmosphere, unique and tasty food and amazing view. Â
We cannot thank Snappers enough for such a terrific experience for our rehearsal dinner! Â We will definitely be back!!!
A friend helped me become a tourist in my own backyard and introduced me to this laid back restaurant in Key Largo. A disvovery for me but a long time gem for many.

There are a couple of bars with TV's on the property, docks for your boat, plenty of parking in the front and around the side, about 50 minutes by car from Miami, family friendly too.
I enjoyed it so that I'll be checking out the Sunday brunch with the family.
If it's your first time, ask the bartender for the $4 destresser. It's a fun "secret" ;)
Snappers is a classic waterfront seafood restaurant that has been around forever. It is showing it's age a bit, but it's clean. The food was very good but not fabulous. My Hogfish was prepared with one of their house special methods which was very good. The sides were a little small but the fish portion was reasonable. The New England Clam Chowder was good but not great. Our service was excellent, very attentive and polite. This would be a great place to a take a group but call ahead. We went in with 2 and no reservation and they got us in on Friday night with a short wait.
After dinner we went outside to the bar where they had a good entertaining live band. This is a great place to hang out for the evening and into the night. Drinks were good and the waitresses were nice. The even have a ring-hook game that will keep you betting for hours. I like this place for either family or group dining as well as a place to hang out with friends having a drink.
We came to Snappers on a Saturday afternoon to celebrate my birthday with a group of friends and were quickly sat on the outdoor patio. Our server Marian was very attentive and made us feel welcome and at ease immediately. Our drinks (blue coconut margaritas and a pitcher of beer) arrived promptly and were delicious and the beer ice cold. We ordered appetizers: a dozen oysters, coconut shrimp and fried calamari they all arrived in a few minutes and were simply amazing. The food arrived after 20 minutes and 5 minutes later we all had clean plates. Awesome!! Best part though, was dessert. O. M. G. Key lime pie was to die for and the chocolate mousse/cake thing (can't remember the name) was excellent. We ordered one of each but couldn't get enough so we had to repeat our order.
Great food, great atmosphere and exceptional service. We will definitely come back to Snappers very soon.
This RESTAURANT was a huge disappointment with regards to service and quality. After driving an hour to have a nice mothers day lunch outside with a water view we are told by the waitress that there is a one and half hour wait and no tables available outside due to reservations. We sat inside and there were empty tables outside the entire time we were at the restaurant. It was a huge disappointment and not even worth the trip. This is an establishment with mediocre food and horrible customer service will definitely not be visiting snappers again. Thank goodness there are limitless possibilities for waterfront dining in the florida keys! Don't settle
For snappers.
Why doI love Snappers? Â Because its a legit local gem. Â Lots of great folks and local color. Â A stopping place for captains and crew from the dive and snorkeling boats. Â Great blackened, mahi mahi. Â And the atmosphere is very comfortable. Â
Three bars are tucked off the main drag back by a working dock, nestled right next to a resort. Â Sit at the bar and look across a small protected inlet out into the Caribbean. Â Live music everyday. Â Slip into a Keys frame of mind...
At noon on Sunday, for Sunday Jazz Brunch, the wait was a little longer than we could tolerate with kids (40 minutes), so the hostess kindly offered the Turtle Bar, the adjacent/sister facility. It has the same view, and you are serenaded to the sounds of the same music from the guy with a guitar camped out on a little boat at  the dock that is the stage.
The menu is a little simpler, and there is no access to the Bloody Mary buffet, but it is still a great spot for a lazy Sunday brunch. For that matter, it's probably a good spot for dinner or even just a drink.
It's almost hard to miss when driving by on the highway!! But make sure you don't miss it!! The drinks are always tasty- Sangria or a Bloody Mary.
Ceviche sampler was amazing. 4 types, 3 rocked my world!!
Buffalo Lobster was a special a while ago, it was SO good with bleu cheese I hope they bring it back again soon!
Stone crabs were about average. A bit pricey for the size.
The garlic mussels are also quite a treat!
Sometimes service here isn't up to par..
This was the first food stop on my family's trip to the Florida Keys, and it was a great start.  The seafood was fresh and the prices were reasonable.  My mother and I both got shrimp in our salads, and you  could not get any fresher than what was in our bowls.  My dad also raved about his coconut mahi mahi.  It was basically a fried fish sandwich that was battered in coconut.  I have to admit that it was delicious.  Overall, good first stop on our vacation.
PS this place has a great view from its back patio!! Â Sit outside if you come here because you cannot ask for a better luncheon view.
This place is very special... The turtle club is awesome ,live music, great food, friendly people. this is exactly what you want out of the keys.
I love the turtle club , from sippin rum on the rocks to eating "Pig Wings"
yes pig wings only available @ the turtle club in that back of snappers after 4pm.
a must try ...
Key Largo....ahhhhh.....I feel like kicking off my shoes and laying out with a cold beer just thinking of it. We came by to Snappers after checking out the Hotel next door and after our car rental attendant from Miami suggested to come for the food. It's about an hour and a half drive from Miami through a 1 lane highway so it was quite a haul...but, always the adventurers we took the drive...plus extra points because the drive to the keys is always incredible and gives you peeks of exquisite views!
We grabbed a few seats outside where we got a great view of the water. The food was nothing to really rave about but I did really enjoy their wings and drinks. Â I wouldn't drive down from Miami again just to grab a bite but if I'm in Key Largo I'll definitely give it another try.
There's nothing quite like the Keys. It's as if this place transcends you into an almost automatic calm and relaxed state of mind. I've only come down to the Keys a couple of times, but every time I do I'm immediately hooked on the laid back atmosphere. Snappers captivates this mood like no other.
Located in Key Largo, the space is almost all outdoors over looking the water. The back bar is the best in my opinion, it's literally right on the water and has this great little bar with actual boat chairs as bar stools. When I arrived, lucky for me it was happy hour so everything was 2 4 1 or half off. I suggest an ice cold Kalik (a little hard to find sometimes), and some appetizers to start.
The food was pretty good and the service was great as well. I had the chicken quesadillas that were an awesome cheesy treat. I also tried the lobster sandwich that was killer as well. The food came out right away and the overall atmosphere was just right. The entire bill came in under 30 bucks for 3 beers and two entrees. This place a definite go for me when I'm down in the Keys.
Frommer's, not Yelp, led us to Snappers. Â I'm happy that they did! Â We arrived after dark so, I can't comment on the view. Â We dined inside and it had an old "fish camp" kinda feel.
We started with the "blackened dolphin bites." Â Six pieces of blackened Mahi served with a mango dipping sauce. The sweetness of the Mango sauce worked well with the spice of the blackening.
I had Hog Fish Vera Cruz. Â It was lightly blackened & topped with lump crab meat, fresh tomato salsa, guacamole, monterey jack &cheddar Cheeses. It was perfectly prepared. Â The fish was moist and flavorful.
My wife had Grouper Dakota which was encrusted with slivered almonds & parmesan baked & finished with champagne butter sauce. Â It too, was very well done.
Justin took very good care of us. Â He is a Snapper's veteran of ten years. Â He was there when we needed him without being "in the way."
Snapper's can be a bit loud but, is family friendly and was a great way to start our Keys vacation!
5 Stars: Hanging out on the deck with the dude playing Antonio Carlos Jobim music from his boat.
2 Stars: The food. Â Prime rib sandwich was way too salty, but otherwise flavorless. Â Tuna sandwich was too salty (and I DO LOVE SALT), and way too cold to taste any of the other flavors.
3 Stars: The bloody mary bar is a great concept, but was way too crowded - and when 4 people are standing behind you trying to make theirs, it's hard to concentrate on how to make yours all it can be.
1 Star: $55 for Brunch for 2 people with 1 drink each? Â Wtf.
Coming here, you can see how nice everything is. The waterfront view is beautiful, the tiki bar looks nice, and the restaurant isn't bad. The staff is friendly, and the service is fairly quick. The food tasted great, but the prices were really high (even for seafood).
But the food is what people want to know about. The menu is pretty extensive and you have a good variety of seafood. We ordered a bunch of food to share, but I have to say, the portions were disappointing for the price being paid. We ordered bacon-wrapped scallops (which was $15 for three!?) They tasted great, but $5 per scallop...come on. The trio of ceviches were good The seafood combo ($25) came with fried shrimp, scallops, and mahi-mahi. It also came with a sea-salt encrusted potato. The seafood was good (also pricey) but the potato wasn't good at all. We ended the meal with Key-Lime pie (It is the Keys after all). The pie was real good.
Overall, this restaurant only got three stars for me because it did taste pretty good. Again, I understand that it's a seafood place and I expected high prices. But this wasn't the best seafood place and they could have definitely given us more for the amount we paid.
All the times I've been here I've encountered good food, alas there slipping.
At Snapper's you have the ambiance, it's natures beauty, can't screw that up. Snappers got a great guitarist. They sure haven't screwed that up. There service, well, we go appetizers with our entree. The wait staff was nice, but that is just a personality trait.
Now the food. Ordered the mussels, me and the G/F took one bite, and the "You Know" look came over our faces, RANCID! then the smell hit, overpowering, how they couldn't figure it out is beyond me. I ordered the Hog Fish Vera Cruz, it used to be my favorite. I couldn't even find the fish amongst the globs of cheese. It was over cooked and underwhelming. The G/F had the 36 spiced Hog Fish, it was eeehhhh OK.
Snappers needs a menu change and fast, need to bring up service to a notch, and get rid of the chef, he should be selling tires, where he'll no something about hard and rubbery!
They can be a bit hit and miss. Sometimes they have truly wonderful food, other times it's just okay.
Great ambiance. You can actually drive up by boat... if you can find a spot to tie off.
If it isn't too hot, you want to sit outside. Actually, as long as there is a breeze, sit outside.
