This is a really nice restaurant in the small town of Socorro. Known for their pizza and beer, that's what we decided to try. The aroma from the pecan wood-fired ovens was oh so sweet! And the pizza that arrived cooked by that fire was done perfectly.
There are separate large areas for dining and a bar for enjoying their many fine beers. Our server was very friendly and attentive.
I can easily see how this is a popular eating spot in town. We would most definitely eat here again on our next visit to Socorro.
This absolutelt used to be one of my favorite places but owners relocated. They should have sold to someone who has a vested interest because all has gone down hill since they left. What is still on the menu is good but the other day their soup was egg drop. ???? that's a bizarre offer for this place. doesn't quite fit. Their prices are high also so we only go a few times a year.
Review Source:This place is great! I had a fresh spinach salad before my meal. I'm a picky eater and the waitress didn't mind changing a few things for me. The pizzas we ordered were cooked perfectly in the wood fired oven and were absolutely delicious! The tiramisu we had for dessert was the perfect way to end our meal.
The service was excellent, everyone was very friendly, and it was a well-kept, clean place.
Other than the delicious meals and fresh pizzas that they have, the environment is very friendly and casual. You will see college students and the working class go here and have lunch and dinner with their friends and family. I think the only tradeoff that they have is the limited amount food entrees in the menu because they try to make the entrees unique by having it made by one huge stove oven. Nevertheless, this restaurant seems very conscientious about service and food feedback (automatically gives you a comment card when you ask for the check and on the receipt) so the waiters are very nice and helpful. Overall, I would definitely go here again :).
Review Source:This used to be my favorite restaurant in Socorro a couple years back, but much has changed since then. It once was touted as a great brewery, but now, all the brewing operations have moved to Colorado and they only import it from the CO joint - the Eddy Line. This is a huge move because what this means is that Soco Springs no longer offers growlers of beer. This used to be a perfect place to get a growler when I would travel from Southern NM to ABQ, but that is no longer. The menu has also changed and my favorite pizza (the Camarones y Alfredo) is no longer on the menu. However, if you make it there around October, make sure you try their Pumpkin Patch Ale. It is quite the brew and sells out very fast.
Review Source:I think the Springs has gone down a touch in food. Â The beer is still OK, especially the red chile porter. Â However, the food just doesn't move me and it's a touch expensive for what you get. Â I don't know, it just isn't a favorite anymore, although it is still probably the most attractive restaurant in town. Â You can get a good meal, but $9 for appetizer plates just seems out of line, especially for moderate amounts of food and mediocre taste. Â However, the 20% locals discount on Mondays is a great deal. I think Springs has just lost its spark. Â It needs a kickstart.
Review Source:I have been through Socorro several times and tried numerous restaurants. Â Recently I was driving through the area later in the evening and almost bypassed the town being disappointed with the choices, but decided to pull over and try my new Yelp app. Â Found Socorro Springs Brewing and decided to give them a try.
And I'm glad I did. Â Great food and service. Â I had a steak. Â Was cooked exactly 'medium' as ordered, and tasted great. Â Some kind of mesquite flavors. Â The vegetables were grilled and crunch, not overly cooked. Â My wife had a burger that was very good. Â Not huge and greasy, but a good size with good flavor.
Only reason not 5 stars is I didn't Love their beer. Â It was OK, and perhaps I ordered the wrong style. Â Will definitely go back and sample their other ones.
And whenever in Socorro I will be back. Â No more searching for something that passes for acceptable as long as this place is open and maintaining these levels of service and quality.
Been here a few times. Never thrilled with the service, and the food is overpriced for what you get and the locale.
My most recent visit, though, will be my last. I had to remind the server to bring plates for our appetizers, straws for our drinks, ketchup for my kids' burgers, napkins, etc. I could see ONE oversight, but good Lord, I've not seen such a lapse! When I told the manager (who was maybe 23?), who stopped by our table, his first reaction was to defend her by saying how busy they were (maybe a bit more than half full). I responded, "So, to get adequate service I need to come when there are few/no customers here so your servers aren't as distracted?" C'mon! If I were the owner I'd FIRE the manager on the spot for such a lame, politician-like answer. Where's Gordon Ramsey?! He did offer a free dessert but after his initial response, I wrote him off.
My elderly mom wanted a burger without pepper and spices and they could not accommodate her because everything is pre-prepped. I get a certain amount of pre-prep but how much effort would it take to keep some ground beef without spices? Since mom lives in town and I don't, that's one more reason to look elsewhere for us.
Bye-bye, Socorro Springs. I prefer the Old Town Bistro, which also features entertainment in addition to much better service and a cozy ambiance.
Ate here during a week long class/conference (if you're reading this, and are also going to a week long class/conference, and are thinking 'did he mean THAT class?' Â Yes, I mean THAT class). Â It was a decent establishment with decent food. Â Definitely worth stopping in and eating. Â The open air design of the room was nice, and temperature controlled, so even though the sun beat down outside in August, it was bright, spacious, and cool.
The seating was comfortable, also, and not cramped. Â Serving staff was attentive and pleasant. Â Drinks were never emptied and we never had to wait to be asked how things were or if we wanted dessert.
My burger was cooked perfectly. Â I highly suggest people that haven't been exposed to green chile to get it on the side, but it is delicious if not a little spicy. Â Great selection of local beer, beer in general, and a decent wine list.
Nothing worth driving out of your way for. Beer is just okay and honestly the menu is pretty dam boring.
We had a Pizza and a Calzone. Neither one was crunchy or crisp even though when you looked at the bottom it was very well done. Instead both were doughy and salty. House Salad tasted fresh and was the best part of the meal.
We had low expectations for this remote place where most people are just passing by on I-25 between Albuquerque and Las Cruces, but found ourselves having a fantastic lunch. Â We started with a beer sampler, and, with the exception of the stout, found them all to be good and some very good. Â As a "hophead" I was disappointed they were out of the IPA, but the "Isopod Pale Ale was pretty hoppy and suited me fine. Â The Station 1 Amber Lager was a spot-on Vienna Lager with a nice caramel maltiness and very smooth finish. Â The Oso Negro Black Lager was great. Â Crisp and clean with hints of roasty bitterness from the dark malts leading to a very long, dry finish.
My wife and I started by splitting the large spinach salad (fresh baby spinach with red onions, fresh red bell peppers, roma tomatoes, almonds and blue cheese crumbles). Â It was plenty big for two. Â The spinach was fresh, the tomatoes ripe, and the roasted red peppers sweet. Â The highlight for me was the red chile vinaigrette dressing. Â Thick and spicy with ground red New Mexican chiles, I absolutely loved it and have never had any salad dressing like it.
For the entree, we split the Rio Grande calzone (Ricotta, chevre, mozzarella, artichoke hearts, roasted red bell peppers, kalamata olives, and fresh spinach) opting to omit the olives. Â Coming from the big brick oven the pizza dough was perfect, browned and crispy on the outside. Â The creamy ricotta and tangy goat cheese complimented the gooey, mild mozzarella perfectly. Â The spinich was just slightly cooked so not soggy or slimy. Â The tender, vinager-ey artichoke hearts and sweet roasted peppers put it over the top.
Our two kids really liked their kids menu choices - a 9" brick oven pepperoni pizza for my son and penne in Alfredo sauce for my picky-eater daughter.
The only minor complaint was that I later discovered we had been charged $2.25 for each of the kid's sodas while the menu says soft drinks were included with kid's meals. Â I'm guessing this happened because we ordered the drinks first and the kids meals later, and I'm sure what they got was probably a much larger cup, but there should have at least been a small credit for not getting the smaller, included, soda. Â Also the kids meals were each $1.00 higher than the price on the online menu. Â I don't recall the price on the physical menu, but either they overcharged me or the online menu is outdated.
Stopped in today on the way back home to Las Cruces. Â My wife had the wood fired pizza which was very good, and I had the Green Chile Burger which was excellent. Â The green chile was mixed into the burger. Â The burger came with tomato, onions, pickles and lettuce and your choice of cheese.
Review Source:Stopped in on a whim while passing through to Texas. It wasn't terrible but I think I would have been happier elsewhere. No complaints about service. I was offered a seat right away and decided to sit at the bar for a good old burger and beer.
They were offering a brown ale, porter, IPA, raspberry wheat and a standard lager. The brown ale was o-k, but it wasn't anything to write home about. Not very flavorful. The IPA had a strong floral bouquet and good golden color but it was almost like they added artificial IPA flavoring and it was a bit sweet.
The burger was good but a little on the bland side. I ordered medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. Rather than french fries or potato wedges the burger is served with home fries. I'd rather see wedges or fries.
Two beers and the 1/4 burger with fries for 14.00. Not too bad but I'll probably stop somewhere else next time.
The atmosphere and layout of the restaurant are great. The drinks were good... But the food left a lot to be desired. Â My burger was plain and tasteless. My roommates calzone was burned on the outside. The side of potatoes (aside from the ones that were burnt) was the best part of the meal. The service was friendly, but the food is not worth the price.
Review Source:Maybe I missed something.
Let's see:
It wasn't during noon lunch rush.
It was during happy hour.
So I get there to try to take some of their "award winning beer" back to Texas with me and there is noone there to greet us. Â The place was open alright-I mean, there were people there eating but noone was at the front.
So we waited....and waited..and waited.
Finally after what seemed like an eternity, a guy shows up and asks us if we need a table. Â I tell him I just want to see the to go menu and wanted to see if they had any growlers or sold any of their beer in 6 packs. Â To my surprise, the says they do not. Â Really? Â If that's your calling card, you don't even sell it to the masses? Â
Well, needless to say, I was disappointed after the first 2 strikes and wasn't about to swing at a third when it came to their food.
So my 8 year old and I left...we got better service at Taco Bell.
The restaurant is attractive and the bar seems to be busy.
L and I shared a wood fired El Bandito pizza topped with pepperoni, Canino's spicy Italian sausage, mozzarella, a house made marinara sauce, and a choice of pickled jalapenos or green chili was good. However, with the exception of the chilies it was a pretty standard pizza with a good crust.
L and K tried some of the beer and told me it was just okay
I was in Socorro for four nights, the first of which was on Monday. Â We ended up getting to the Brewing Co. just in time for Monday Night Football. Â One would think there would be sufficient tv's at a brewery, but there wasn't. Â Only two old school 27" tv's. Â I was shocked! Â But, the beer was very good - especially the Pumpkin Ale. Â We ordered chips and salsa, and the salsa was outstanding. Â We then shared a pizza, and again very good! Â The food and service definitely moved this from a 3 star to 4 stars. Â
BTW, I went  back on Thursday night and they had 2 brand new flat screens above the bar.  NICE!
I went here on my 21st birthday and had my first beer, their Osso Negro. The waitress was quite a character and joked about having me try Irish car bombs.
I had the mushroom pizza (don't bother with anything but the pizzas or calzones), and discovered after going there every once in a while that their pizza with green chilies and fresh tomatoes was my favorite.
My friends and I loved the spinach artichoke dip appetizer. One of our friends hated spinach but would eat that dip.
First, the good thing is that they offer WIFI, but that doesn't excuse makiing people wait without reason. The last time we went, it was the weekend of Trinity Site, so the place was packed. We waited...and waited, but eventually had an average lunch. This time we went on a Sunday afternoon (much less busy in the dining room). Service was middling because we first experienced the travails of a cranky young woman who talked to other staff within earshot of diners, which was frankly TMI. Grow up woman, you have a job; do it and don't complain about when you absolutely need to leave. A better (non-complaining) server who simply did his job and finished serving after the other disappeared. In a better cafe or restaurant, we would have been informed that so-and-so would now take over serving us. Obviously, that was far from the young woman's mind who bolted as soon as she could.
That said, I enjoyed watching the pizza dough spinning out by the cooks, and that in and of itself was very good. But, the crust is only the base of a pizza. I ordered the Wild Mushroom and was greatly disappointed in what I was served. For a premium price that promised about four kinds of mushrooms I got a pie with quartered whole white mushrooms, very few oyster, and no enoki. While the crust was baked, the toppings were not cooked, and almost cool, raw. Not even good for a salad, and certainly not for a pizza that should arrive at table too hot to eat at first. Underneath was a nondescript red sauce with little flavor. In short, I was greatly disappointed in the service and food.
I'm willing to give them another chance, but will not order the same item again. In short, this establishment should focus on training servers and cooking the food longer. (After a piece, I simply took the rest home and finished it in a hot over with a spritz of canola oil with grated Parmesan and Italian herbs to make the thing more interesting. That did the trick. The pizza served to me was just not cooked fully. Maybe they didn't want to burn the crust and run the risk of a diner complaining. Well, going in the opposite direction is just as bad, if not worse.
This is a must stop if you're hungry between Albuquerque and Las Cruces. Â I've eaten there approx 25 times. Â They also have a location in Buena Vista, Colorado which I've eaten at about 5 times. Â For both locations:
Excellent, healthy food choices. Â Great service, great pizza, INCREDIBLE salads! Â Good desert, and good beer (haven't tried the pasta). Â One of my favorite restaurants anywhere.
Been there 4 times, the last time it was honestly because the Bistro was closed on sundays.
The first time I was there I ordered the roasted garlic alfredo. and it was one of the most boring dishes that i have ever gotten in a restaurant. Â it was white pasta, white sauce, white bowl, untoasted piece of white bread... i sent it back
went back other times and got their pizzas or calzones... MUCH BETTER
if you go i recommend the pasta
oh and my frien d got the black bean taco and he said its delish.. keep in mind its like a nacho salad not a taco
the beer is good, but over rated
the service is also hit or miss, but generally pretty good
This review is intended mainly for IRTB students.
Yes, it's close to the hotel. Yeeessss there are a limited number of places to eat during your stay in Socorro. I had high hopes for Socorro Springs upon arrival. Here's what you should know.
Pros - They make their own beer, and have pretty good wood fired pizzas, close to the hotels, outdoor seating.
Cons - Their beer isn't all that great, and at $4.75 a pop, it's not really worth it, service is s..l..o..w.., not a full bar, small televisions, expensive for what you are getting, bar area is small, and they seem to have a problem with their draft system.
Summary - If you are looking to go no further then across the street for your food, this is the place. Plan on spending some time, and money, there. Do try the pizza's, they are pretty good and have a nice selection of toppings. Try the beers, heck, they make them there so might as well. But don't go overboard. Â There are other places in, and out of town, that you should try.. (Manny's Buckhorn, Capital...etc).
Great service, great food, great beer :)
Simple as that!
Our waitress was very good and knowledgeable, the food (I got a pizza and husband a calzone) was tasty (the calzone was a little eh on stuffing but made up for it in quality), the water (which is a big thing down here) was VERY clean and tasted good as well, the beer was great (I actually like Vienna Lager, my husbands favorite the OSO Negro Black Lager), growlers are CHEAP here @ $14 we sooo wanted to take one home but alas we did not... but for a good quality beer this is a GREAT deal!
If I ever visit NM again this is a must hit stop :)
In Socorro for a class. Â Had to hit the local brewery. Â First off, the beers were good. Â I'm a sucker for IPA so that's what I had but I tasted everything else they had. Â The pale ale was good but I thought it was just a little too blond for the style.
Service was very attentive. Â With regards to a few reviews about slow food service, I did overhear one of the bartenders ask a server "how's the kitchen doing." Â From that comment, I can assume that they have an ongoing problem with the kitchen when they get busy. Â Although, my quesadilla was served promptly.
This place was very clean and brightly lit. Â The barstools are very high. Â Be careful climbing down if you've had a few.
This is a "don't miss" if you're in the area.
Stopped in for Lunch today.
Great brick-oven pizza (thin crust that is firm, but not crunchy) and my colleague enjoyed his Caballero (large calzone).
Also tried a glass of their Pumpkin Patch Pale Ale; very tasty and the pumpkin flavor is not too strong, just right.
Highly recommend a stop here, when you're in the area.
Is it possible to give a place a minus 5 rating? Â However, as you read my review, please be aware that I and my two "Old Fogie"friends are over 65, and not part of the crowd which usually frequents this restaurant.
Having said that, here's the scoop from an Oldster's point of view. Â
It was a Monday night when one might expect a restaurant to be fairly quiet. Â We were seated near the bar, in the midst of a huge group of young drinkers who were loud and enthusiastic. Â The noise level was shattering.
Our server was attentive and capable, but the kitchen was very slow. Â He kept us generously supplied with beverages until the food finally arrived, nearly an hour after we sat down.
For the price, and for the wait, we had expected the meal to be really good. Â It was barely mediocre. Â Did we catch them at a bad time? Â The portions were large, but there was very little flavor in our Calzones. Â
Clark thought the potatoes were to be fries -- they weren't. Â Perhaps they had been baked? Â At any rate, they weren't crispy. Â He was disappointed.
I spoke with the head waiter who apologized for our disappointment. Â Perhaps it was just a matter of age-perspective, but we were unhappy, although they asked if there was anything they could do to make it better. Â There wasn't, as we were just passing through.
Perhaps, seeing that we were older, they might have seated us in a quieter area???
I'm glad to read that other people have had better experiences. Â We, however, will never go back.
Being that Socorro is the only place you'd stop between Las Cruces and Albuquerque, Socorro Springs is a nice addition to the town and its menu seems to cover the gamut. They've got New Mexican dishes, pizza, and specialty pasta dishes. The beer and wine list looked pretty extensive.
Went here to meet up with an old friend and didn't want to drive all the way to Albuquerque. Yeah, but when you're driving from Cruces, you kinda might as well, what's another 90 miles?....
I was pleasantly surprised, considering the last eateries I'd been in this town were Taco Bell and Denny's, or some other chain not worth remembering.
When we got there, about 4:15-4:30-ish, we were seated promptly and service was quick, friendly and smiling. But nearly three hours later, and we hadn't noticed because we were busy chatting, people were waiting in line.
It's hard to say whether the quality of the food was super wonderful but compared to other Socorro establishments, it's tops.
Practically everything's a chain in Socorro. Â You give directions by saying, "Turn right at the KFC by the Taco Bell". Â Walmart and Smith's are the only places to really shop for anything in town. Â However, there are a few local establishments that are quirky and amazing.
I've only gone to Socorro Springs three times, and those were mostly with large mobs (between eight and 16). Â The wait staff were super friendly and always willing to accommodate us. Â The building is done in a very elegant adobe style and feels warm and inviting. Â They sometimes have live music in the courtyard!
Though Socorro Springs is a brewery, I only tried their Apricot Wheat Ale, which is light and very flavorful. Â Their margaritas are made with wine instead of tequila, but are lovely and not too sweet. Â Their menu really is where this place shines: penne pasta with tequila, calazones, pizzas, corned beef... finally, the chocolate mouse is not to be missed.
If you're driving along I-25, stop here. Â You won't regret it.
