I've never been here for the Summer Set Music Festival, but it was rockin'! Â I parked on top of the hill ($20 really?). Â Wandered over the entrance only to find out the ticket booth was on the other end of the grounds. Â So we hiked to the other end, got our tickets and hiked back to enter. Â That was a lot of walking, but in the course of it we met some awesome security people that were friendly and helpful (including sharing some drinks they had). Â
The main amphitheater was large and spacious. Â The music was great coming from the bands. Â I liked the beer tent right in the middle. Â It was very convenient. Â We spent a lot of time in the ice arena listening to some sick techno (that means really, really good in young talk. Sure I'm a 30 something, but loved the atmosphere and I'm pretty sure I stuck out like a sore thumb, considering I was dressed as a hipster and not a hippie and not in my early twenties). The artists, sounds and sets were amazing. Â There were some great visual effects as well.
A nice alternative to southern Wisconsin's Alpine Valley.
Much smaller than Alpine, but you get all the great outdoor music experience. Large stage set up with solid sound quality, a mix of paved areas (front half with seating) and grassy hills.
Not sure if this is always the setup, but at a recent show, there was only one beer area, which created HUGE lines to get beer, so hopefully that's not always the way they do things. Should have two areas to purchase beer, for sure. I also don't like how you have to purchase tickets to then purchase beer and food. Kind of a racket. You get trapped into buying tickets in groups of 10, so you end up spending more then you want, which is bad, especially when booze is involved. Solid food choices though, including delicious corn dogs.
Parking was easy to get in and out of, and though there are some huge hills, nice all around.
Porta-potty by parking lot is nice backup facilities to the proper bathrooms they have inside the park. Actual bathrooms are nothing fancy, but much better than porta-potties only.
All in all, a pleasant place to see a show.
