We came to see Keb Mo here with some friends who live in South Miami since this place was essentially in their backyard. Â There's not a lot to do in this part of town, so the SDMCAC is a welcome and beautiful addition to the area. Â Comfortable seating at the orchestra level, in the balcony, and along the sides. Â And the acoustics were mighty fine.
In addition to the main concert hall, their is a neighboring studio room that hosts local dance performances. Â Free off street parking with attendants packing folks into every nook and cranny. Â Nice refreshments in the lobby. Â Will call was quick and efficient. An overall great experience.
Time and Place  There is a time and place for everything   The SMDCAC is placed way own south and takes a long time to get to but once you're there, you can't deny that this is a top notch facility   An aesthetically nice building as you will find anywhere in the city   Nice breezy courtyards with graceful bamboo giving a serene feeling    Slanted walls to tell you that what you are about to experience is out of the ordinary    Windows and lights that warm up the otherwise grey, cold futuristic architecture   Once inside, the concert hall just works and can see this becoming a great alternative to the more stressful Arsht Center for concerts

"a world-class, multi-disciplinary cultural venue and community gathering place in the southern part of Miami-Dade County... After Hurricane Andrew devastated South Miami-Dade in 1992, Commissioner Dennis C. Moss developed a comprehensive vision, known as the Moss plan for revitalization of the area, which included among many things, the building of a state-of-the-art cultural center. In 1994 Miami-Dade County purchased land to accommodate a new cultural center in the southern part of the county. The building was completed in 2011
As you see the SMDCAC has been a long time coming  I thought it was fiting that the first event that attended was "Music of The Treme" since they are overcoming there hurricane disaster (Katrina) and coming down to a place that is still dealing/ growing from theirs (Andrew)
