It seems like I keep finding myself at places where I know exactly what to expect. Â Madness at the door to get in, a crazy expensive table and way too many dudes on the dancefloor. Â But like usual, I know how to have a great time even when given these circumstances. Â The DJ wasnt bad and was spinning House the whole night.
South Pointe seems to be the Southamptons "hot spot" where beautiful people go to be seen. Â Or at least thats what the girls I went with seemed to think and they are all up on the club scene. Â Its pretty tough to get in here unless you are buying a table and since there were 20 of us, we were buying lots of bottles. Â The bill wasn't too bad considering. Â We ended up going over memorial day weekend.
The funniest part of the night was when we were going home and we took one van. Â Yea, imagine 20 people crammed on each others laps. Â Im just happy we were renting a house less than 5 miles away.
Maybe this is a 4 star place since there is nothing around but overall, there isn't really anything too special about this place that makes me justify more than 2 stars.
It's the new "hot-spot" out east, so you can expect beautiful people, celebrities, and wealthy New Yorkers! There is always a crazy line outside so you better be one of the above or have a good connection (we had the latter).
Your best best is to get a table to avoid the lines at the bar and have a place to dance, or hang outside on the terrace with a much more chilled vibe.
The new spot out east this summer. This is the place everyone ends up late night before going back for an impromptu pool party, especially Saturdays. They get pretty good dj's usually, the crowd varies- saturdays are definitely better than friday. My friends usually have tables. You might run into people you know and don't necessarily want to see or maybe you do want to see them after you've made your rounds. The one main con is it's really far.
Review Source:Someone misspelled the name when they added this business... hope yelp will fix it :-/
Quick summary:
Good in-house DJs. Slightly nicer than the upscale clubs in nyc. Friendly and fun workers. Highly recommended.
Long version:
Was there on June 25th. The place... I think the reviews online (such as the one at <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.jetsetreport.com%2Fnightlife.php%3FarticleId%3D428&s=dd4f931a6f28b28d14c4907e7223a351d837008bc5e2f2f32e8688a852f907ac" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.jetsetreport.…</a>) do a pretty good job of describing the place - an upscale club in the area.
Drink prices are what you'd expect at similar clubs in nyc. Didn't try anything fancy, just shots, gin and tonic, and bottle service.
It's a little away from downtown Southampton, so you do need to catch a cab or drive there. Parking is all valet ($40), but people also park along Tuckahoe Lane (even though there are signs that say no parking) and didn't seem like anyone got towed.
The place is slow until about midnight. If you are not VIP, I recommend getting there around 11:30pm for a chance at getting in. By midnight, there is a pretty big crowd outside hoping to get in.
Cover was $50 that night. Which seemed a bit high even by Hamptons standards, and I heard one of the workers tell a customer, "Fifty dollars is pretty cheap for Steve Aoki!"
Which brings me to music. The in-house DJs are pretty good. They did an excellent job of getting the crowd pumped up with various mixes of house and top 40. Although, since it was a cloudy day, I assume most people were trashed by 8pm and probably would've had a good time no matter what. Actually scratch that. Once Steve Aoki came on, he killed the crowd pretty fast. I have no idea what the big deal is with him, maybe it's because his family owns Benihana, but he was average at best. ABSOLUTELY NO STAGE PRESENCE. I felt bad for the suckers that paid money to see this guy. As soon as Steve Aoki finished his gig and the other DJ came on, my friend (who had her back turned from the DJ booth) asked me if the DJ had changed, because the music got way better.
Next, the crowd. For the most part, it's the typical crowd you would see at the hot clubs in the city. Except a little more exclusive. People looked better overall - taller, better dressed, etc etc. There are a fair number of dbags, and LOTS of trashed girls who cannot handle their alcohol. There are also a couple of guys who are obviously on drugs. But there are also a bunch of really fun and friendly people that made the whole night very entertaining. The workers there were also very attentive and pretty fun - did a few shots with a couple of them... and they would also dance with us. Just a good party overall.
Stayed until they kicked us out, at which point the bartender gave each one of us a bottle of water to help us sober up. Some people were obviously hoping to hook up because they started sexually harassing some girls. Luckily, they were easily deterred. Outside, in the parking lot, I ran into a guy trying to sell me some yeyo. When I refused, he got angry. Seriously, dude? lol.
There is also an outdoor area which looked nice, but I spent all my time in the main area of the club, right in front of the DJ booth. So I cannot comment how service is outside...
