Over Memorial day weekend, my wife and I had a night in Linville Falls and we ended up at Spears (since it was the only one open). Â We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of food. Â The salads we started with were fresh greens, and tasted as if they were picked nearby.
My wife had the crab cake, and it was good. Â Not too heavy on breading, and just the right amount of crab meat; fried to perfection. Â I had the BBQ Pork. Â I live in Eastern Carolina (Durham) and I LOVE the eastern style 'que, with that said this was delicious. Â The meat was slow smoked, but not overly smokey and the sauce was pleasantly sweet. Â I'd have it again.
Try this place out, you'll be happy.
Mmmm, mmmm, Good! Â
Hubs and I traveled to Linville Falls and Tablerock over the weekend and needed a place for dinner before heading back home. Â Since my cell phone couldn't pick up a signal, I couldn't rely on my apps to help me find a place. Â So I had to rely on my "GiGi"....aka....GPS to do the work for us. Â
About a mile down the road from Linville Falls were two places to eat.  SCORE!  We walked up towards the first restaurant and we quickly noticed a "WE DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS" sign on the door.  We laughed and I said "why don't they just say to us city folk  ' you are in the country and we don't do city folk-things out in these parts' ".  So our "SCORE" quickly turned into a "FAIL".  Low and behold we turned around and across the street was a BBQ Place...Spear's BBQ and Grill.  YEAH! We're saved!  So we drove 50 yards over to the other place (because we might have gotten towed....you never know in these parts)  and saw that they did in fact take credit cards. Â
We sat down in the booth area which was totally cute. Â The dinning room area was just as cute, and buzzing with locals. Â Total southern hospitality was in full bloom here. Â I had to giggle at the hostest..as she wore workout clothes as her "uniform" of choice. Â Such a laid back vibe. Â On to the food:
We just ordered regular fries, burgers, and cokes.  The prices were a tad bit high.  Not sure who would like to pay  $12 for a Shrimp Po-Boy...I know I don't.  The burgers were excellent but were on the pricey side as well.  $9.95 got me a freshly cooked burger with fresh fries on the side.  The bun was regular white Wonder bread that fell apart at first bite.  Nonetheless...it was fresh, hot, and tasty.  Service was good and again everyone who worked there was extremely friendly!
Only thing that made me raise an eyebrow was that everyone in the kitchen cooking and handling food had long hair....and they didn't wear hair nets. Â o_O Â I'mma need them to put on a hair net or something. Â Where we sat was right in front of the little window where you could see into the kitchen. Â Other than that, everything else was great!
If you're in the forest and hiking at Linville Falls, this place is worth stopping and getting some good grub. Â Enjoy!
