If Spirits has a 4.5 rating, I'm very concerned about the other restaurants in town that have lesser scores.  We were passing through Alexandria and researched Yelp for the best restaurants.  We settled on Spirits because of the great reviews and the varied menu.  My husband was so-so about his Chicken Alfredo, and I was very disappointed in the shrimp dinner.  The menu advertised large shrimp, and I would have to say they were more like popcorn shrimp.  The French fries were inedible; they were cold and barely cooked.  On a positive note, the waitress was very friendly and attentive to our needs  However good customer service doesn't quite outweigh bad food.  If we're ever in this area again, we'll bypass this one.
Review Source:This place was great. It has a little but of everything from po-boy shrimp sandwiches to ahi tuna. The salad was okay, and I didn't get a chance to try the soup but my sandwich was great. The thing that stood out the most was the decorations. The walls were covered with paintings and paraphernalia from the music industry. Very cool !
Review Source:As Colorado native and a beer and music lover, this place is my saving grace in Alexandria. Â The owner is diligent in getting some of the greatest musicians from Nashville to New Orleans to Austin and beyond!!! Â The beer selection is also very vast and can satisfy anyone's pallet. Â The menu has a good variety of items and all taste good. Â As far as the lunch crowd..... It does get busy, but I've found that if you get there around 12:30 you dodge the rush. Â The seating and the cashier line is effortless. And the service even improves because the staff can slow down, say hello, and take an extra second to make sure you have what you need.
Review Source:I was in town on business and stopped by for some lunch.
I had the roast beef poboy. I added the provolone and had them heat the bread. (There's a term for this...just can't remember what it was!!) I also had a side salad instead of fries.
The poboy was very tasty. A little salty, but the meat was tender and the bread fresh. The side salad was pretty standard.
The waitress was very friendly and helpful.
They have an interesting way of handling the bill. Instead of delivering it to your table, you go up to the cashier and point to your table. Then the bill arrives...prices were fair.
I'd definitely go back. There are a few other things on the menu I'd like to try.
Traveling through for work and came here for lunch today, arrived around 11 a.m., so not busy. Â Waitress was prompt and professional aka not super friendly. Â Food came out beyond fast. I had the sensation salad added chicken, it was okay, not too die for or something I'd order again. Â I also got the alfredo garlic bread - assuming alfredo sauce would be on there, no it had tomato sauce and cheese...not a fan. Â Curley fries looked yummy.
Review Source:Do you know what I love most about this restaurant? Consistency. I know what type of service and quality of food I am going to get every time I go there. I believe that aside from the great live music every Wednesday (Free!) and most weekends this is one of the things that has kept Spirits around for so long. As mentioned before lunch can be a bit of a challenge but it is worth it. It's also nice to not have to wait forever for a meal...they are super snappy. Great liquor and beer selection too! It does have the reputation as a "see and be seen" but that is part of it's charm. It's nice to see happy people who are enjoying one another's company and seeing a few you know too.
Review Source:I'm writing this in the restaurant, now! They have wi-fi that works which is the first big deal in Alexandria. Â The food and the service is excellent. The place is eclectic. I'm from Houston, TX, it reminds me of something that would be in the Montrose area. Great food and drinks very good services. The prices are appropriate too!
Review Source:A must if you happen to be in Alexandria, LA. Â
I went to Spirits while in town visiting my Brother, Sister-in-law and newly born niece. Â The five of us, including mom, went and enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Spirits. Â The prices were fantastic (especially if you're used to Philly and NOLA prices...), the service was friendly and attentive despite the busy lunch crowd, and it only took a few minutes to find a table (we quickly learned that you have to seat yourself...). Â The food was absolutely delicious and truly authentic. Â The dressing for the salad was homemade, which truly made a difference. Â They were also open to modifying my order, agreeing to press my muffaletta despite the busy kitchen.
I'd certainly recommend the fried green beans....mmm....
All around a great experience. Â Great service during busy times, great food with a super busy kitchen, and very reasonable prices.
This place is famous in Alexandria for serving some very important locals, such as attorneys, doctors, the mayor, and other rich people on a regular basis during the lunch hours. HOWEVER, the lunch hours at this restaurant is EXTREMELY packed...it's actually ridiculous and you'll be lucky if you find a table (which only sits about 3 people).
There is usually a band that plays blues, country, or ock on certain nights of the week. The service is really good and the price is usually around $10.00-$15.00. The menu is large and serve a variety of choices, such as burgers, sandwiches, pastas, chicken, quesadillas, salads, shrimp, etc. They also have a full bar and a few t.v. screens inside.
Overall, this place is very nice...but expect it to be packed during the lunch hours (not so much during the evening though).
