This place is very gross!!!! It used to be good, but not anymore!!!!! It really is very nasty!!!! Service was pathetic!!!!! The entire place was very greasy and dirty feeling!!!! My dog could not have eaten or chewed the chicken fried steak!!!! The doors need to be locked tight until someone gets the current ownership
out of this building!!!!!!
SICK SICK SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay. First thing you ought to know, this location's unmarked. Like, the actual building doesn't have anything like, "SPORTS CITY CAFÉ" on it, but there's a sign out front, visible only if you approach from the service road. If you come from the other direction, good luck finding this place.
As we left later in the night, I noted that most of the lights on the sign were out.
There's an air about the place that makes it seem... as if the management/owner isn't putting the time and effort into it that it needs. I mean, they have a really nice location next to a very, VERY busy road, the building is really large and spacious and there's ample seating and tons of booths (most have working TVs, but I'm not sure how well they work)... This place could make them a lot of money, if they worked at it.
The staff was nice. They were attentive and wonderful. No problems with them.
So, we sat down. It was a Friday night, so we all (a group of five) wanted a drink. We try to find the drink menu. And there it was, on the back. In all its underwhelming glory. There was nothing there, really. And I saw that they had a full bar, so I asked the very nice waitress for a Mai Tai. Two in our party asked for margaritas. So we went on to look at the food menu.
First of all, the entire menu looked childish. It was busy, crowded, hard to read, and I found at least one grammatical error (yes, I'm picky). I'd love for it to have some photos of the food (I'm a visual sort), and it needs to be a LOT more organized. It looks like a 2nd grader's last-minute Word 97 "magazine spread" Â Nothing looked or sounded good, or even special. I eventually settled for a chicken sandwich of some sort.
It was at this point that our drinks arrived. The margaritas were in tumblers. My friends said they were "pathetic" and "more like smoothies". My mai tai was in this ridiculously tall glass. It looked really pretty and delicious, but one sip of it was nearly painful. Nearly straight up alcohol. And it turned into a chore to drink. I've always been a quick drinker, but this one took me a long time, simply because it was unpleasant to swallow.
Then, the food arrived. Holy cow that was a giant slice of chicken. The bun was tiny in comparison, and so I started to saw off parts of the chicken so that I might be able to handle it without getting it everywhere. And while it was relatively delicious, it was overwhelming and, honestly, too much. Then it started falling out everywhere and became too much to handle. So I just started to chomp on the fries.
And the fries were arguably the best part.
So, I WOULD give it one star, but the staff was quick and efficient, and the fries saved my night.
But otherwise, the atmosphere was dismal, they need to put more work into the place, and GIVE IT A SIGN OR SOMETHING. There aren't any cool specialty drinks or anything, and it's just... well, sad. Don't know what it's like on a game night, but on a Friday night... such a huge establishment should be packed, right? Maybe that's attributable to the lack of draw to the building. Honestly, from all angles, it looks nearly deserted.
I WANT this place to do well. It has a lot of potential. Beautiful building, tons of TVs, but it just... I wouldn't go back. It was dull, boring, and depressing.
But, dang, those fries were nice.
