My introduction to Rocky's Place was back in the winter of '04. I was living in NYC and the girl I was dating (who happened to be from Dallas) dragged me out to this place called Rocky's over by the Home Depot on Garland during a visit to Texas. The place looked scary with a couple of drunks teetering precariously on the sidewalk in front of the non-descript entrance but once we entered the sanctum there was nothing to be scared about. It was basically a no-frills drinkaporium with loud, classic rock and country (mostly rock) blaring from the CD jukebox. I think I was the only guy there with sleeves on his shirt and without a mullet. There weren't many folks there at first -- maybe a couple of dudes playing pool in the back  -- but then they cranked up the karaoke machine. I think I heard Gretchen Philips 'oked twice. The best version was performed by a couple of big-boned young gals who looked suspiciously too young to be there. Good times. The karaoke night is gone -- replaced by a big screen TV for game days (?) but Rocky's can still be fun especially if you enjoy a night off the beaten path in an anti-social sort of way.
